A Lonely Ride

Cupid's Ride

The windows fogged up as Sungmin drove on the dead highway toward his best friend's house.  The other way, traffic was piling up, bumper to bumper with a strong glow from the headlights in the morning's darkness.  It was Valentine's Day morning, 5:30 am to be exact.  There was no sign of the sun behind the shrouded darkness of night.  Sungmin sighed heavily, as he waited at the final street light before he got to the long stretch of lonely, empty road that led up toward the house.

~~~~~
Sungmin's best friend, Donghae, was a florist.  He was the bubbliest, most love-driven florist in town.  People could understand why too, after all, he was dating the epitome of perfection that was Hyukjae.  Their relationship was the talk of the town; it was the one thing everyone, including Sungmin envied.  Donghae was always the most happy around Valentine's Day.  Not only did he absolutely adore the flower pieces he designed for the year, but how could he possibly not love a full 24 hours dedicated to love?  He always talked about how important it was to show everyone you love how much you love them, especially on that one dreaded February 14th.  Sungmin rolled his eyes every time Donghae would go into this "la-la land" of his, but he couldn't help but feel a sudden sinking in his stomach each time Donghae would ramble on and on...and on.
It was hard for Sungmin to put up that front; he had to keep his perfect m-shaped lips happy and perky around Donghae, although he never really fully felt that way, especially when talking about love.  Sungmin had been single for four years, and had only one serious long-term boyfriend in his life.  He had put so much dedication into his relationship, putting that man first in any situation, only to end up with his heart broken.  Sungmin always thought that he put it past him and moved on, but he couldn't help but feel a touch of bitterness toward the man that ripped him of his life for five years.  Not only was he stripped of most of his friends from "back in the day," but he was also rather awkward around people he didn't fully trust or know.
~~~~~

A twinge of nervousness hit Sungmin straight in the gut as the streetlight flickered to green, hinting at him to hurry about.  His mind wandered off for a few seconds before realizing the light had changed and his lead foot slammed on the gas pedal, leaving behind the faint vroom at the dead of morning.

Hi everyone! So I noticed the requests for sequels, and I can't quite guarantee one, sorry! I /maaay/ consider going for mini-stories based on side couples first, since if I go with a sequel, I'd need more time to rethink the Kyumin events.

But thank you for the support and love! :)))
<333 to you all!
