Memories

Chapter nineteen:

Yoseob’s POV:

I had a dream that night.

In my dream, I was walking along the road when suddenly, I heard a scream, followed by a splash.

“Minyoung!” I cried in my dream, frantically searching for her.

I was running, and running, but I couldn’t seem to find her at all.

Suddenly, I was in Seoul park. I ran towards the river bank.

I gasped.

I could see Ji Eun’s petite body floating on the river surface.

And it wasn’t moving.

At all.

“JI EUN!” I woke up and cried.

Thank goodness it was just a dream

I turned to look beside me.

Ji Eun wasn’t there.

“Ji Eun!” I immediately got up. “Ji Eun! Where are you?”

I heard a door open.

“Yoseob?” she said sleepily, yawning. “Wh-“

I gave her a huge hug.

“Mwoh?” she asked, confused.

“Don’t you ever scare me like that, ever again!” I said, hugging her even tighter. “Bad girl! You scared me to death!”

“But…but I just went to the toilet!” She protested.

“I don’t care!” I pouted. “It’s still your fault! You can’t leave my sight for even a minute!”

She giggled. “Araso, Yoseob oppa. Next time, I’ll drag you along with me to the bathroom!” Suddenly, she frowned.

“Isn’t it your wedding day?”

Oh. That.

I totally forgot about my marriage with Lucica.

I had to face them anyway, so I might as well clear the air once and for all.

“We’ll go back to Seoul today, and explain everything to them, kay?”

She looked quite scared. I didn’t blame her. But she took a deep breath and nodded.

“Then,” I used my aegyo. “We’ll get married and live together forever, my sugar bunny!”

She threw a pillow at my face.

“Sugar bunny?” She laughed. “That’s so cheesy! Yuck!”

I made her a quick breakfast of porridge.

“Good Ji Eun~ Open wide! AHHHHHHHH~”

Apparently, she was starving, because she gulped the whole spoonful of porridge quickly.

“Be careful!” I tried to warn her. “It’s hot!”

She choked and spat out the porridge. “Hothothothothothot!” She squealed and jumped around wildly, like a little puppy on fire.

“Aishhh! I told you, you silly girl!” I rolled my eyes playfully and gave her a glass of water.

“Must I really treat you like a baby and blow the porridge for you?”

“Hahaha.” She said dryly. “You’re the baby!”

“No, you are!” I stuck out my tongue.

“You are!”

“No, you are!” I took this chance to sweep her off her feet and cradle her like a little baby.

“Who’s the baby now?” I said, tickling her chin.

She giggled, and her little thumb, resting her head on my arm.

Awwwww…

After breakfast, we left for Seoul.

Ji Eun slept through the entire train ride on my shoulder.

Silly girl, why didn’t you sleep well when I was gone? What will you do without me?

“We’re here” I nudged her.

It was 1pm.

We didn’t have time to waste.

We went to the venue of my wedding.

The wedding that would never happen.

I told Ji Eun to stay outside. As I walked in, I saw my parents, Lucica’s parents and Lucica running towards me.

“Yoseob!” Lucica squealed. “Where have you gone? I was so afraid you wouldn’t show up! Hurry! Get dressed now! Our wedding starts in an hour!”

“I’m sorry.” I bowed.

“There’s no time for apologies now! You can make it up to Lucica after your wedding! Now get dressed!” My father scolded me.

“No, I mean. I’m sorry. I can’t marry you, Lucica.” I bowed again.

“WHAT?!?” Everyone yelled.

“What do you mean you can’t marry my daughter? You agreed to this, young man!” Lucica’s father was furious.

That made me MAD.

What made me agree to this marriage?

It was the fact that Ji Eun left me that made me so miserable that I agreed.

And who caused Ji Eun to leave?

Who caused her to get injured?

Who caused her to become so miserable?

HIM.

That man in front of me.

And he had the nerve to reprimand me?

I was furious.

“Well,” I said, glaring at him with fury. “I wouldn’t have agreed to marry Lucica if you hadn’t sent Ji Eun away!”

My mom was furious. “Yoseob ah!” She screamed. “Apologize to your father-in-law at once! Why are you still talking about THAT GIRL?”

“Mom, he threatened to shut down our company for good if Ji Eun didn’t leave the country! He forced her to leave me! I would never call such an evil man father-in-law!” I roared.

“But…Lucica-“

“I HATE LUCICA!” I was positively enraged. “She’s a stuck up, spoiled, arrogant, disgusting BRAT!”

Lucica gasped. She started shedding those crocodile tears again.

“And so,” I said simply, pulling Ji Eun in and wrapping my arm around her waist tightly. “I’m getting married to Ji Eun. This wedding is off. I don’t care if you don’t approve. Fine. Disown me. I’ll just live together with Ji Eun, far away from you disgusting, low-life creatures!”

“I could do it, you know,” Lucica’s father said simply. “If you call off this wedding, I promise to ruin your company once and for all.”

My parents gasped.

“Yoseob!” My mother scolded me. “How can you be so selfish? How can you ruin our happiness because of your silly little desires?”

“ME? I’M THE SELFISH ONE?”

I couldn’t believe it.

THEY were the ones who were marrying me off to Lucica so that they could earn more money.

THEY were the ones who were sacrificing MY happiness for THEIR own benefit.

AND THEY DARED TO CALL ME SELFISH?
“I can’t believe you guys! YOU made me marry Lucica, someone I didn’t love, so that you guys could earn more money! You didn’t care at all about who I wanted to marry! You didn’t care about me AT ALL. And you call me selfish?” I turned to look at Lucica’s father. “And as for your threat, I told you, I couldn’t care less. Make my family bankrupt, fine! Once I leave this place, I’ll have nothing to do with them anymore.”

I grabbed Ji Eun’s hand and started to walk out of the venue.

“YANG YOSEOB!” I could hear Lucica scream behind me. “YOU’LL PAY FOR THIS! YOU AND THAT GIRL! YOU’LL REGRET THE DAY YOU EVER CHOSE TO LEAVE ME!”

I ignored her and walked out, determined never to come back ever again.

IU’s POV:

I couldn’t believe he really did that.

That he would really leave his family, his fortune, his everything.

Just for me.

That was the most touching thing ANYONE had ever done for me.

“Are you sure about this?” I asked him quietly, as he dragged me ahead, obviously still angry.

“Absolutely. I mean, who are they to control my life? Why should I put up with them anymore? I’m serious, Ji Eun. If I can’t be with you, I’d rather die.”

“Yah! Don’t say these sort of things!” I scolded him, beaming inside.

“Anyway, I’m never going back! I couldn’t care less if they went bankrupt or anything! I-“

He was getting way too agitated. I stopped walking.

“I know, Yoseob oppa.” I said softly. “I couldn’t live without you, either. Forget all about your past. From now on, it’s just you and me.”

My words seemed to calm him down. He smiled.

“Tell you what, Ji Eun” He slipped his arms around my waist, cuddling me gently. “We’ll stay here in Seoul. We’ll get married quietly in the park where we went on our first date. Then, we’ll start up a small food shop, a real one, not a food stall. We’ll start up our own family, and then we’ll-“
“Woah! Take it slow, silly!” I giggled, amused by his enthusiasm. Then I frowned, confused.

“But, are you sure you want to stay in Seoul? Aren’t you afraid of Lucica’s family?”

“But…this place contains all our memories! We can move back into your old house, where it all began!”

“Aishh…where what began?”

“You know…” Yoseob grinned cheekily. “You and I…”

I hit him on the arm, embarrassed. “Yah! Shhh! Stop it!”

He chuckled and slipped his arm around mine.

“Come on, my fiancé, let’s start planning.”

No one’s POV:

That same man who had been spying from Yoseob was watching the scene from afar.

“His fiancé, huh?” The man smirked. “Yang Yoseob, you’re making it so easy for me…”
