Chapter fourteen:

Yoseob’s POV:

“Ji Eun!” I knocked on her door. “Ji Eun! Wake up! Let’s go out to play today~”

There was no answer.

“Wake up, you sleepyhead! It’s 10am!” I called. “Don’t you want to play with your Yoseob oppa?”

There was still no answer.

Haishh…don’t tell me she went to work?

That silly girl.

She was already exhausted, and she STILL wanted to work?

So I drove off to the food street to look for her.

When I find you, you’re so in trouble for going to work today

But she wasn’t there.

I was beginning to get a little worried.

Where was she?

What if something happened to her?

I rushed back to her house and knocked on her neighbor’s door.

“Hi, do you know where Ji Eun went?”

Her neighbor looked surprised. “You haven’t heard? She just moved out, about one hour ago!”

WHAT.

MOVED OUT?

“Wait, WHAT? JI EUN MOVED OUT?”

“Ne. Didn’t she tell you?”

“Ani! Where did she move to?”

“I don’t know”

“Why did she move then?”

“I don’t know either.”

Upon seeing my disappointed face, her neighbor looked at me sympathetically.

“But I did hear something about the train station. Maybe you could check there? She just left. If you hurry, you can make it before she leaves!”

I thanked the neighbor and ran to my car immediately.

Ji Eun, you can’t run away from me.

IU’s POV:

Passengers taking train 207 to Incheon, you may board the train now.

I took a good look around me before boarding the train.

Goodbye, Seoul.

Goodbye, everyone.

Goodbye, Yoseob.

Thanks for being with me for this period of time. When you came into my life, I wasn’t lonely anymore. I loved spending time with you, and I’m sorry I have to leave like this, without even saying goodbye. Thank you so much for making me feel less alone. Thank you so much for brightening my days. Please treat Lucica well. Take care of yourself. I’m leaving, and we’ll never see each other again. Goodbye. You’ll never imagine how much I’ll miss you.

I took a deep breath and walked towards the train.

“LEE JI EUN!”

Oh my gosh. I missed him so much I’m even hearing his voice everywhere.

“LEE JI EUN!”

Wait.

I turned around. I could see Yoseob sprinting over at top speed from afar.

Oh no.

I tried to quickly clear through the customs before Yoseob could make it here.

I couldn’t bear saying goodbye.

Hurry up! Let me through!

The officer stamped my passport and I hurriedly rushed into the gate, only to be pulled back by a pair of strong hands.

Bummer…I was so close.

I took a deep breath, and turned to face Yoseob.

“JI EUN AH! THANK GOODNESS I STOPPED YOU ON TIME!” Yoseob was shouting at me. “WHAT ARE YOU DOING? WHY ARE YOU LEAVING? WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME?” He was shaking me so hard.

I remained silent, looking at the floor.

“WHY AREN’T YOU SPEAKING? Did anything happen to you?” He looked at me, his eyes full of concern.

If I had to leave him, I had to do it right.

I had to make him forget all about me.

Make him hate me so much, he wouldn’t ever come to find me.

I’m sorry.

“I…I’m leaving. For good.” I tried to muster up the coldest voice I could.

“But…but…why? Did something happen? You can tell me!” Yoseob looked at me, his eyes filled with genuine concern.

This was why I had to be ruthless.

“Because I want a clean break from you.” I said cooly. “I’m really tired Yoseob. One minute you forget me, then you suddenly remember me all again. In addition to that, you have Lucica-“

“Ha!” He chuckled. This was not good. “I know what this is all about! You’re just jealous!” He gave me a hug. “Don’t worry, pabo! I’ll never leave you for Lucica-“

“You don’t get it!” I broke free from his hug. “I’m sick of you! I’m sick of everything! I’m tired. I just want my old life back! The life that didn’t involve you!” I was trying desperately not to cry.

“Ji Eun, did I do something wrong?” He asked me softly, obviously wounded by my words.

“No!” I screamed, frustrated. “I just…UGH! I just don’t want anything else to do with you! Understand?”

He looked so hurt, like a little puppy who was being abandoned by its owner. In a way, I was indeed abandoning him. But I was abandoning him for his own good.

The hurt in his eyes turned into fury.

“I understand.” He said coldly. “I won’t bother you anymore. You and live your life. We have nothing else to say to each other then.”

He walked away.

NO! Come back! Don’t leave me like this! I can’t live without you! Don’t go!

Instead, I remained silent, as I watched him leave.

Once he was gone, I burst into tears.

Yoseob’s POV:

As I walked out of the train station, I saw the train leave.

She’s gone.

Ji Eun, the love of my life was gone.

How could you let her leave, Yoseob? Why didn’t you make her stay?

Now she’s gone. Forever. And you’ll never see her again.

You’ll never hear that adorable laughter again.

You’ll never see that innocent face again.

You’ll never see that sweet smile again.

You’ll never get to kiss her again.

Aishh! But she wanted nothing to do with me! She said it herself!

Yes, she didn’t want me anymore, so why should I make her stay?

If she wants to leave, I can’t force her, can I?

She doesn’t like me anymore.

I have to move on.

Move on with life.

Who was I kidding?

When I got back home, I saw Lucica and my mother on the couch, talking.

Oh great.

“Yoseob oppa!” Lucica shrieked (yes, SHRIEKED), when she saw me.

“Oh Yoseob ah,” My mom smiled fakely. “You’ve arrived just on time. We were just talking about you.”

“Yoseob oppa! Let’s get married next month okay? It’s my birthday next month, and I want our wedding to be SUPER SPECIAL!” Lucica grinned.

Ughh. Sickening.

I was just about to protest against the marriage for the hundredth time when I stopped.

Wait.

What was the point anyway?

Ji Eun had left me. She didn’t want me anymore.

I would never love another girl like I loved Ji Eun anyway.

But I still had to get married.

So why not just get it over and done with?

I could just ignore her for the rest of my life.

Whatever.

I couldn’t care less anymore

I shrugged. “Sure. Whatever.”

Lucica screamed again. “Really? Reallyreallyreallyreallyreally?”

I sighed. “Yes. Really. We can get married on your birthday.”

She screamed happily, giving me a big hug. “Oh Yoseob oppa,” she gushed. “I knew you’d come through! I knew you’d realize that I’m the right one for you. Unlike THAT GIRL.”

That girl was the only girl I loved in my entire life.

And she will probably be the only one I will ever love

But whatever.

SHE’S GONE.

For the rest of the day, my mom and Lucica were planning the wedding. They wasted no time in making reservations and setting countless of appointments for us.

For once in my life, I didn’t protest.

Not one bit.

What was the point, after all?
