You were sitting in your university class, ready to get the day started. You were lightly tapping your pen on your desk in boredom and tried not to disturb anyone else. You were always one of the first to come to class; you have been since the beginning on high school. As you waited for more people to come in, you saw one of your friends XiuMin walk into the huge classroom. You smiled, not feeling alone anymore and waved to him. He ginned from ear to ear at the sight of you and ran over to you.

“Hey ___-ah.” he said, you greeted him as well. You and XiuMin have been the best of friends since the second year of high school when he was new to the school. Knowing your luck, you were the one that had to show him around. You didn’t mind, but most of your friends thought differently, making mean comments about him to you. After about a week of knowing him, you didn’t think those comments about him were true at all. XiuMin was really different from the other guys. He was really sweet, to you and the other girls who would make comments about him. To you, he was a real friend, one that you’ve really never had before. Since then, you both continued to go through the high school life, making everything count.

After your high school graduation, that summer you both found out that you were both accepted to the same university. You couldn’t remember a day when you were that excited. From then on, you both would meet each other at the front of the campus and would hang out every week if you both were free.

But for the past 5 months, things have been changing a lot. You recently have gotten into a relationship and you were as happy as ever. That being, you would be hanging out a lot more with your boyfriend than you did with XiuMin. He said he understood, he would always explain saying ‘maybe next time’ if you had plans with your boyfriend instead. As you would constantly apologize to him, he would just say how he was happy that you were happy and not to apologize. You couldn’t help but feel pain and guilt in your gut.

As you and XiuMin were talking before class would start, your boyfriend walked in and came to the two of you. You smiled at your boyfriend, making XiuMin realize you weren’t smiling at him, but at the man behind XiuMin. XiuMin turned around to notice the broad man that was named in a relationship with you. The girl XiuMin loved and always loved. He lowered his head, as if he was ashamed and walked out of your boyfriend’s way. You gave XiuMin a weird look, wondering why he would move. Your boyfriend wasn’t the prince, he didn’t have to move. ___ then came a bit closer to you and gave you a kiss. You blushed, seeing that XiuMin and a couple of other students were looking at you. Right then your teacher walked in, commanding everyone to sit in their seats. Before you could turn around to say bye to XiuMin, he was already at his seat a couple of rows behind you, working on his essay. You frowned and sat back down at your seat.

During the whole hour of your class, you weren’t paying attention at all. All you could think of was XiuMin and the way he acted. You felt hurt to see him look upset when he was around you and your boyfriend. Was he jealous at the fact I would be spending more time with ___ than him? You then started to think about your past with him. At how much fun you two would have playing video games and pranking other people. After graduating, sure you two were really good friends, but everything started to change. The fact that you both were now adults and that your feelings towards him were starting to change. You finally came back to reality to see your teacher in front of you, yelling at you to start paying attention to the lesson. Your cheeks were burning a bright red. As your teacher was walking back to the blackboard, you looked back at XiuMin to see his reaction. Then, seeing him smiling and laughing at you made you feel better. You always loved his smile. You stayed blushing and gave him a small smile back. Turning back around to face the front of the class, you caught a glimpse of your boyfriend giving you an intense stare, showing you that he wanted you to only pay attention to him.

The bell finally decided to ring, making you sigh in relief. You were getting up to grab all of your stuff and rush up to XiuMin to talk to him, but your teacher stopped you. He gave you a ten minute lecture, saying how important it is to pay attention in class in university and how precious the time is so you can study later on. After your teacher let you leave, you bolted out the door, hoping to catch up to XiuMin. As you quickly walked out of the building, your boyfriend saw you come out and came up to you.

“___-ah, what is wrong with you?” he asked a little too loud. You shot him a confused look, not knowing what was going on. At the same time, you were looking around still trying to find XiuMin.

“Why are you looking for XiuMin ___-ah? You’re in a relationship with me!” he said. You immediately drove your attention to your boyfriend. You didn’t know what to say. To be honest, you didn’t know what to feel. Was he really acting like this because you were trying to find your best friend?

“Oppa, what are you-“

“Look, since you are always trying to hang out with him and not me… maybe this isn’t working.” he said in a quiet tone. Your mouth hanged open. You were in complete shock of what he was saying. You felt hurt, that he wants to break up with you because of a stupid reason. But you’ve noticed a lot of things during that one class thinking about XiuMin. You’ve finally came to realize that ___ wasn’t a perfect match for you, XiuMin was. You dropped your head, pretending to feel shame.

“I’m sorry ___-ah.” he said, walking away. You looked up to see him gone and now you had to find XiuMin.

You first guessed that he would be back in his dorm room, but he wasn’t there. Honestly, you couldn’t think of anywhere else he would be. Until you remembered he had to get information for his essay, so you walked as fast as your feet could to the library. The place was dead, as usual. You looked around to see XiuMin ready one of the many books stacked on his desk alone. You walked over to him; he looked up and gave you a smile making your heart hurt.

“___-ah! Good thing you are here. I-I need to ask you something.” he said. You sat down across the table from where he was sitting and smiled. He would start a sentence, but stop. You’ve never seen him so nervous, you were very curious to hear what he had to ask. And shortly after, ask your question to him.

“I-I really like you.” he whispered. Your eyes widened in shock, you never thought he felt that way about you before. You admitted, you hoped he would feel the same way as you did, but for him to say it first. You couldn’t stop smiling at the man.

“I really like you too XiuMin.” you said. Then his eyes widened in shock, making you burst into laughter. He kept asking you if you were being serious, but continued to laugh at how cute he was acting. A smile started to creep on his face after you confessed as well.

“But, what about your boyfriend?” he asked, looking down at his book feeling disappointed. You forgot about ___ for a minute and explained what happened to XiuMin.

“Would you like to go out with me ___-ah?”

“I would love to oppa.”
