The town was silent and looked peaceful as it always was. Its boundaries were tightly guarded by the vampires and everyone was keeping an eye if any harm would threaten their settlement. Days had passed yet nothing relevant was happening. If there was something worth knowing—it was everything that Seohyun had known.

Kyuhyun jogged towards the office of TVXQ, its walls still soared high that made it superior than the other offices and edifices around the town. An envelope clutched under his arm as he stopped and took it. He climbed the stairs in front of his seniors’ office and greeted its guards. As soon as he reached Yunho’s office, he knocked on the door. There was no response but he went in anyway. He was not here for Yunho or Changmin, he was here to see his brother.

Donghae was fixing Yunho’s table when he noticed Kyuhyun entered. He was about to run some errands and he did not have enough time to open the door when he heard the knock. However, he was relieved to see it was only his brother and not some more important visitor that Yunho might be expecting or else, his punishment would have grown severely.

Donghae lifted a box and transferred it to another table. He dusted his hands and approached Kyuhyun who just stood there and watched him. “Is there anything you want to say or give to Yunho?” He asked Kyuhyun.

Kyuhyun just looked at Donghae who looked so bothered and tired. This was not the Donghae everyone used to know. Donghae was lively and all-loving. He was one of the kindest trainers known in town. He did not deserve to be punished like this. This punishment, as everyone knew, was what all vampires were afraid of—being demoted from the position one already had. Donghae was a trainer and right now, he was like a new vampire in town having internship in the higher in ranks. He was powerless. He was only a helper in TVXQ’s office. Now, Donghae looked so unhappy inside even if he tried to show he was alright.

“You know, if you’re not here for any business with TVXQ, I’m not allowed to have any visitors.” Donghae added as Kyuhyun still stood stared at him. “Kyuhyun-ah, I don’t need any pity. I am doing just fine.”

Kyuhyun snapped from his thoughts and looked at the envelope he was carrying with him. “No, no, please don’t think that way.” He sighed. “I’m here for business with you. They allowed me to enter so I’m not here for visit, besides, you said you’re alright and I—I can see that.” Kyuhyun slowly handed Donghae the envelope.

“What is this?” Donghae asked as he took it.

“We need you to sign those papers to transfer your trainees to other trainers.” Kyuhyun said carefully knowing it would hurt Donghae to know he officially lost his job even if he was just in suspension. Everyone knew it would just lead there. “Shindong-hyung has been working with your trainees and consulting them. Yuri’s helping him find other available trainers—even hoping for Hankyung and Kibum to come back.” Donghae lifted his eyes and looked at Kyuhyun. Both of them knew how they wanted those two brothers back.

“Those two won’t go back. Is it really necessary to force them—“

“We don’t have any choice.” Kyuhyun cut him off. “I mean, Henry and Zhoumi would only accept your younger trainees. But how about…” Kyuhyun knew that mentioning Jessica would not make the case any better. “It may be impossible but just believe, hyung. They will come back.”

Donghae looked down and nodded. “I’m sorry if I caused you guys this much. Tell the others I am deeply and whole-heartedly sorry.”

Kyuhyun nodded, “Just sign those papers. We’ll deal with all the other stuffs you’ve left. You don’t have to worry about it.” Kyuhyun took a pen from his pocket and handed it to Donghae.

“I—I have other things to do; besides I have to run errands. Can I just drop this off to Super Junior’s office?” Donghae said. Kyuhyun saw how hesistant Donghae was when it comes to signing those papers. Somehow, deep inside, Kyuhyun understood his brother.

“You can go out?”

“Of course, I do. It’s just that I don’t have privileges anymore. You know, I can’t train or even talk to you guys. But right now, I feel lucky you went to give me the papers. It feels nice.” Donghae looked around. “It feels nice to talk to other people other than Yunho-shi and Changmin-shi.”

Kyuhyun felt even worse for Donghae. “I have to leave now, hyung.” Those words were difficult for Kyuhyun to say. “I have… something to do, you know—“

“Trainings.” Donghae completed his sentence. “It’s okay, I understand.” Donghae faked a smile. He would surely miss to train with his juniors. It was fun and exciting having to work out, hunt and jump from places to places with his trainees.

“I’m actually dealing with a lot of things too right now—especially with Seohyun.” Kyuhyun shyly admitted. “She’s been in the city for a while now and I’m not sure if I’m just thrilled or worried why her account has been flooded with requests.”

“Well you shouldn’t be worried. She’s Seo Joohyun, she gets a lot of that.” Donghae comforted Kyuhyun who seemed to be a lot more worried than thrilled.

“And usually, that long list did not have to wait for this long to be accomplished.” Kyuhyun said. “I do think something’s going on and I’m about to find out about that.”

“Well… yeah then you should probably go.” Donghae said but Kyuhyun still hold onto his post. “Is there something else that’s bothering you?”

“Was TVXQ too much on her?” Kyuhyun asked which made Donghae’s eyebrows furrow. “I’ve been thinking a lot lately. Seeing those incredibly long list of ignored requests, not that I mention she has been failing quite a few missions lately—and TVXQ did seem not to know about that—were the two missions given to her too much?”

“Two missions? What could probably be there other than Kim Jaejoong?”

“Kris.”

“Who the hell is Kris?”

“Kris the tall guy.”

“Are we thinking of the same Kris we know? I’m not sure, maybe it’s another Kris—“

“Oh, dear lord. You don’t know. Of course you don’t.” Kyuhyun covered his mouth and turned his back knowing what he just said.

“Enlighten me, my younger brother, will you?” Donghae interrogated.

“You know, just forget I told you these things. Or better yet, just shut up when you can’t forget.”

“Now, I saw that coming from the evil maknae.” Donghae joked but Kyuhyun was too worried for what he just said.

“I think I really need to check up on Seohyun.” Kyuhyun said and prepared himself to leave.

“Hold it.” Donghae stopped Kyuhyun from twisting the door knob. “Maybe TVXQ has put her through a lot because as far as I can remember, Heechul mentioned to me something—something about Seohyun… and Kris.”

“Yeah?” Kris looked back at Donghae waiting for more details. “I think it’s a mess but maybe it’s fixable. We’re dealing with Kris and Seohyun here and then you and Heechul—“

“Get to the point, hyung. I’m not good at playing with words unless I do it.” Kyuhyun crossed his arms. “Okay, maybe I’m good at playing starcraft but that doesn’t count right now.”

“You can leave as soon as I say it but promise me you won’t tell it to anyone unless Heechul hyung tells it to you himself.” Kris waited for Donghae to continue. “I think Kris must have received the same mission.” There was a few seconds of silence before Donghae decided to call it truce. “Thanks for dropping by. I’ll get done with these papers soon.”

“Alright.” It was the last word Kyuhyun could utter. He slowly walked out of the office and closed the door. Donghae just looked at where Kyuhyun left with the envelope in his hands.

“Was it a bad dream?” Someone asked Kris as soon as his eyes opened after resting for a few hours.

Kris hesitated to answer at first but it seems that Lay’s soul has been very persuasive. “No, no.” He denied. He slowly sat up and took his phone from the bed side table. He saw how many missed calls he had from Seohyun.

“Your phone’s been ringing and it’s like an annoying alarm clock to the whole house that everyone wants to turn off.” Chanyeol said who was still standing by the door frame.

“I’m sorry if it woke you up.” Kris apologized. “If it would make you feel any better, it woke me up too.”

“It’s okay. Everyone’s going through a lot. Maybe we’re thankful it woke us up. Not that I wish Lay could have woken up too.” Chanyeol joked and laughed a little but Kris did not find it utterly funny. “Alright, I didn’t mean it that way.”

“It’s alright. Believe me, I would have wished for the same thing.” Kris’ phone suddenly rang. “It’s Seohyun again.” Then he pressed ignore right away.

“Wait, that was Seohyun?” Chanyeol asked and Kris did not answer for the younger angel would have known the answer anyway. “You should answer the next call from her, hyung.”

“Chanyeol, let’s not go there—“

“Lay already said it, you can’t ignore those calls forever!” Chanyeol suddenly raised his voice but he calmed down right away knowing he just disrespected their leader, let alone after waking up.

“I did not ignore it, okay? Look, I woke up because of it.”

“Well the others have been awake for a while now because they haven’t ignored either.”

“Lay,” Kris sighed. “What are we talking about?”

“I told you you’re phone’s like an alarm clock. Stop ignoring her calls if you want her to stop calling you.” Chanyeol crossed his arms.

Kris shook his head, “I can’t. After everything that she did? You can’t expect me to answer a single call from her.”

“Well,” Chanyeol avoided Kris’ eyes. “Lay asked you to.” Chanyeol held back himself to say this but gladly, he was finally able to. Kris couldn’t utter a word but his eyes were shining brightly in silver which made Chanyeol speechless too. All of a sudden, D.O. appeared running with outraged expression behind Chanyeol.

“Yeol, when that phone rings again, no one can stop me from answering it.” D.O. said and Chanyeol’s eyes widened as Kris’ did too.

“Excuse me?” Kris said. D.O. finally saw Kris was awake. Chanyeol and D.O. exchanged looks before the latter decided to speak up.

“We all saw Lay in our dreams.”

D.O. and Chanyeol went inside Kris’ bed room and closed its door. They told Kris about the small ruckus in the living room because Lay appeared in their dreams and he was indescribably asking for only one thing: Seohyun. The others have been talking about it for the past few minutes already and they came up with only one decision: to let Kris talk to Seohyun.

“W-why me? Guys, you know I loathe her. Seeing her would be the last thing I would want to do right now. Let alone bring her here.” Kris disagreed.

“Hyung, please.” D.O. begged. “It’s for Lay.”

“Well you guys can do it but my stomach can’t handle the thought of Seohyun so please, I give you the honor of speaking to her.” Kris got up and fixed himself in front of the mirror.

“She’s your mission, hyung, and letting you talk to her right now all make sense.” Chanyeol said and D.O. agreed by nodding. “We can’t bring Lay back—“

“And Seohyun can? What a playful joke, guys.” Kris cut him off.

“I was saying maybe we can give him the last thing he’s asking for before he dies.” Chanyeol and D.O. exchanged looks and they motioned to leave the room to give Kris some more time to think.

“I’m not sure but I guess Lay told you more of what he told us in our dreams when he appeared in them. I hope you’ll consider what he said.”

On the other end of the hall, Suho was holding papers in his hands and scanned through them once again even after reading them for a hundred times. It was as if every round he read each line, it would make more sense. He walked towards the door of his room and opened it with enthusiasm and anxiety. “Kris—“ He then just saw Kris in a hurry to leave the house with a jacket in his hands. “Wait, hyung! Where are you going?” Suho ran after Kris downstairs.

Chanyeol and D.O. appeared from Kris’ room and went down as well after Suho.

“Wait, what the hell is going on?” Suho asked Chanyeol who was behind him. However, Chanyeol did not seem to hear his question.

“He has to leave.” D.O. answered as they finally reached the living room. Kris put on his shoes while Suho remained clueless and vigilant that Kris was about to leave. He could not just watch any more from the sidelines so he stepped forward towards Kris to stop him as he had some stories to tell.

“This is very important and yet again, amidst of this, you will leave?” Suho stepped forward once again as Kris stood up after tying his shoelaces.

“Well, I’ve got something important too. For now, I leave you with the others to look after Lay’s body.”

“I’ve been working on these papers I got from Jaejoong’s office and everything already makes sense—“

“Wonderful.” Kris said as his eyes flashed in silver for a second. “But I need to go now. I’m serious about this and you all know that.” The others seemed to understand the need but Suho looked around but he still couldn’t approve Kris’ unwanted departure.

“I don’t know anything because I haven’t slept working on these inside my room while everyone’s in deep slumber.” He showed the papers he was holding. Chanyeol and Kris looked at each other and got the hint. “Since nobody cared enough to knock on my door, I need for you to hear me out.”

Kris almost laughed, and so did the others. However, nobody could because it was not the right time when it’s time to grieve for Lay. “The nine of them can hear you out.” Kris said. “And you can use some sleep after to understand why I have to leave.”

Kris golden wings unfurled in the open near a cliff. The sun setting and the colors of the sky fighting for domination of the darker ones appeared before the silver eyes of the angel who was flying by himself towards a destination he was not sure of but was determined to find someone he needed to see. His heart was beating fast not because he was nearly above the clouds and losing oxygen but because he was going to see someone his heart wasn’t ready for. However, he may not be ready, but he had to do this.

For Lay.

Seohyun was lying on the sofa in the living room of Jaejoong’s flat. She was alone while Jaejoong was out with Yoochun and Junsu. She was not in very good terms yet with Jaejoong as she refused to talk to him. However, he did not want her to leave and somehow, she thought Jaejoong, for once, was reasonable. Especially now that she already talked to Kara about the necklace she got from her parents a long, long time ago, she wanted answers from Jaejoong even if she already got them from Kara.

Other than that, her mind’s really off today. Her battery got drained from calling Kris the whole afternoon with hopes of receiving a call back from him. To her loss, she never did. She was just holding on to a feather that’s kind of different in color from Kris’ golden wings. It kind of glittered in silver but she wasn’t sure if Kris actually had other colors in his wings beneath the thick feathers. She’d never know.

However, she was sure that an angel barged inside Jaejoong’s office that one night and that could only be Kris as she knew him of. Weird as it may sound, but Seohyun sat up when she heard flapping of wings. At first, she ignored it with the thought that she was just being delusional while holding that single feather she was holding. She had kept it from Jaejoong knowing he was studying about angels when he helped him fix his office full of researches about angels. If it was Kris’ feather, Seohyun was sure that she would forever be keeping it than to let Jaejoong know about him. With Jaejoong, there would be nothing but death for Kris. Especially after what he might have done to Jaejoong’s office.

Given a few more seconds, other than flapping of wings, Seohyun heard something brushing and knocking on the window near the kitchen. Seohyun got up and looked at the kitchen windows but there was nothing. She concluded how delusional and anxious she was until the sight of the enormous and astonishing golden wings appeared on the windows of the living room. The sight of the bright golden wings was spectacular. It was as if Seohyun’s natural hue of eyes were naturally glowing into gold as well. It was that bright that it reflects to Seohyun’s eyes that were glued on Kris’ wings. However, Kris opened the windows and Seohyun, for the first time that night, has looked into his eyes that were telling her something.

“Come with me.” Kris extended his hand as he was on the window’s ledge. As much as Seohyun had expected his eyes to change its vibrancy, they were brown, natural, peaceful and unscarred. Seohyun was not blind to see that. Without hesitation, Seohyun accepted Kris’ hand and the next thing she knew was the safest feeling she was longing for—Kris’ warm arms around her body and them, together, flying towards anywhere Kris flies her too. But that moment, Seohyun, for once as she wanted, was sure enough that she felt protected more than ever.

Soon, the cold ocean breeze blew against their skin. Kris had worn his jacket when they landed on the shore to cover the slits behind his shirt. Now Seohyun realized why his clothes were always paired with jackets as to what Kyuhyun got from him before. His scent was still the same—it was very fresh and alive to Seohyun, as blood streamed inside that amazingly built body. Flying up there, Seohyun was pleased to feel his heart beating. She was just ecstatic to know over and over again that he has a heart.

“Thank you.” Seohyun broke the silence that filled the air between them when they landed. “I’ve been kind of trapped inside that place. I feel like a teenager that has to let my parents know where I’m going.” She chuckled lightly. Jaejoong let her out once when she met up with Kara knowing they were friends with her. Unless Jaejoong wanted those girls to suspect something, as he knew they were humans, he would not let Seohyun go out with them. “I had to get away from that place.”

Kris knew that Seohyun was trying to put up a lighter mood as tension was between them. Lay was right from Kris’ dream—Seohyun was trying.

“I kind of left a dozen of messages. So right now, I’m looking for an excuse why you can’t pick up one of my calls.” Seohyun rubbed her hands and looked at Kris who could only glance at her and look away right after.

“I did not want to answer,” Kris looked at the ocean. His jaw clenched as he crossed his arms. Seohyun glanced at him with a tinge in her heart for what he just said. Not that she was expecting something reasonable but it was not the same answer she wanted to hear. “I couldn’t bear the thought of hearing your voice from the other line. I had to see you in person.”

Seohyun looked at the ocean as well. The wind blew her hair and so as Kris’. “Okay.” She mumbled. “So just tell me what you have to say.”

“I have not much to say.” For he was always a man of few words. “But I have things to ask.”

“If that’s what it takes to be able to talk to you, then go ahead and ask.”

“My first question should go like ‘How’s Kim Jaejoong?’ but seeing him with you that day, I already got the answer.” Kris said. “I know someone healed that dangerous wolf bite. I know you do too.” Kris looked at Seohyun.

“If I do, I should have thanked him or her but apparently, I have no idea who did. Kara just got back here in the city so I doubt that they did something miraculous to Jaejoong. Not to mention he looked like he doesn’t have any idea who the Kara members are—“

“Kara?”

“Well, that’s beside the point. What are you really going to say?” Seohyun looked nervous.

“Someone healed Jaejoong, yes you’re right.” Kris faced her and looked through her eyes that looked beautiful and pure without its golden hue. “But you know who could heal him.”

“An angel?” Seoyun looked down. “I—Kris—I only asked help from you and, and you turned me down the moment I did. God knows what happened, what made you help him.” Seohyun looked sorry. “I—I apologize. I know it’s against your will to heal someone who must have done something against you in whatever way he did. But thank you, Kris. You’re blessed to have that kind of ability.”

Kris looked down and looked away from Seohyun who showed nothing but honesty despite the vicious façade she had portrayed. “Yes, to see Jaejoong alive around you, that’s the last thing I want to happen.” Kris sighed—keeping himself composed for the sake of his brother who was the reason why he was there right now. “An angel healed Jaejoong, and that’s not me. Believe me or not, I would have had let him die. But Seohyun,” She looked up at the tall angel she only knew. Her eyes moistened upon hearing it was not the angel she expected to help Jaejoong whom she had considered a friend even if it did not show. “If an angel heals a werewolf bite, that angel dies and suffers excruciating pain in dreariness of having his soul leave his body for a matter of time.”

“I don’t get it. Why are you telling me this?” Seohyun pretended not to get what Kris was telling her because there was too much yet too less information.

“Because that’s an angel’s life out there that you put at stake. I don’t care if I’m the only angel you knew of, but this time, I’m only risking my brother’s identity because he needs you.” Kris said. His eyes glimmered in silver.

“There are other angels out there.” Seohyun said with her eyes in golden red hue. This time, they were not fighting for domination of colors, they were only showing the side of themselves that showed care and emotions. “And you’re saying I’ve set one of them to their death. Don’t you think that’s a little harsh?”

“No, I think you’re very influential. I mean look around you—SM Town, vampires, Kim Jaejoong, an angel which is me, and another angel which healed Jaejoong, and wolves. Not to mention who knows what Kara is.” Kris said. “I think now that I mentioned those people, I really think you’re that influential.”

“I’m not sure if that’s a good thing.” Seohyun smiled a little at the thought of knowing too much. However, she fell silent when she remembered the angel who would have healed Jaejoong.

“It’s a good thing.” Kris said which made Seohyun look at him. Their eyes stopped glowing. Somehow, it showed purity and lack of intensive strength when they don’t shine in other colors. They looked harmless. He stepped closer towards Seohyun and held her hands that seemed to be frozen. Her crystal and porcelain skin was astonishing. The way her skin brushed in his hands that were filled with warmth was like Chen sending lightning all over his body. “It’s a good thing because you’re special.”

If Seohyun’s heart could beat, it already skipped one.

For a few seconds, they were lost in their own world. Just staring at each other’s eyes were enough for them. But it was a bit absurd to believe they could stay that way in silence a little longer. Seohyun’s a vampire, incapable of loving, and Kris was an angel, desperate to fall in love. It almost matched until both would lose the strings that attached them together—they were just missions of each other. It is impossible to break the curse that they were in. The world they live in is full of impossibilities where nothing is the only thing that can happen any time. They were two different creatures. One is practically dead forever and the other is basically going to fly back to heaven and be gone for good forever. They may be from the same town but they were from two different worlds.

Seohyun’s phone started ringing. She removed her hands from Kris’ even if she would have held his longer. Her eyebrows furrowed when she saw who was calling.

“If it’s an important call, you can answer it.” Kris said.

“It is.” She said before answering it. “Kyuhyun—! You’re in the city?!” Seohyun’s eyes widened in surprise and the next thing she knew was Kris removing his jacket and his wings unfolding behind him.

“Where on earth are you? Please, you can lie to your clients but not to me, I’m your trainer—“ Kyuhyun was cut off when he saw Seohyun walking towards her from the other block. He put down his phone and waited for her until he noticed she was with someone.

Seohyun stopped on her tracks before Kyuhyun could hear her from the distance. She turned to Kris and looked up at him. “Listen, I can take it from here but thanks for flying me back. My trainer does not visit that often but it must be something important. So thank you.”

“It’s nothing. I guess it must be really something important.” Kris said but before he could step back, Seohyun held his arm.

“That’s not all. Thanks for telling me about the angel too.” Seohyun was about to leave but Kris was the one who held her back this time. Kris could see Kyuhyun waiting from the other block but he still had something to say.

“I told you about the angel who healed Kim Jaejoong for a reason—and that’s because his soul wandered around and wanted you to visit him.” Kris said. “I did not know how to say it earlier but that’s what I’ve been trying to say. That’s what I had to tell you.”

Kyuhyun started walking towards them. “Alright, then where is that angel?” She asked but Kyuhyun was already near them. He could probably hear whatever she’s going to say next so she dared not to anymore.

“You’ll figure that one out.” Kris whispered and bowed before Kyuhyun. “It’s nice to see you, sunbae-nim. Now will you excuse me? I have to leave now.” He bowed again and walked away from Seohyun and her trainer.
