iii Chapter 5: (2016) Christmas Miracle

No Longer a Coward

… 12.7.2016

Daniel tried to focus on the television, he had his arm around Jiyeon whose head was leaning against his shoulder. However, he didn’t feel comfortable at all.

She was laughing hysterically, her head knocking against him several times, she could barely contain herself. On the television in front was SNL Korea. There was skit parodying him basically mocking him.

“Introducing Daniel Choi!” A fake announcer called as a skit member ran out with the number 21 on his fake SK Knights jersey. The less than handsome man impersonating him was cheered for by the other older cast members acting as teenage girls.

The skit pretended like he had just shot the ball and everyone cheered. Even though the ball clearly missed. He ran back and turned around and did the iconic jersey bite, when the bottom part of his abdomen was revealed it was nonexistent on the chubby man except there was a drawing of abs from a black sharpie.

The fans cheered as he shot again and again as his ‘teammates’ who were actually Jay Park and Go Kyungpo stared in disgust. The buzzer sounded and everyone cheered signaling they had won. He ran over and hugged his teammates who didn’t want any part of him and then ran over to an obviously non attractive cast member dressed as a cheerleader he hugged her and stuck out his tongue. There was a flash of a camera as the skit ended.

Jiyeon had completely lost it watching, 5 minutes had passed since the show had cut to commercial break and now were playing an entirely different scene. She might’ve been crying at this point. Her head burried in his shoulder shaking profusely at her amusement.

“Was it that funny?” Daniel inquired slightly annoyed by the parody.

He had found it amusing at most, but Jiyeon was taking it too far.

“Daebak… Oppa it was right on.” She looked up at him as she struggled to contain the laughter. She wasn’t even trying to hold it in anymore. “Everything was so accurate. Ah I’m dying!”

“Ya! Do I really look like that? huh?” Daniel tried to defend himself.

At the sametime he couldn’t help but grin seeing how cute she looked giggling.

He could watch her laugh for hours the way her pearly white teeth flashed when her small mouth opened. Her eyes would squint into smiles and she would scrunch her small nose. For that reason and only that reason he was thankful for the parody.

“oppa… they got the jersey bite… the picture… I’m dying.” Daniel pulled her in closer to his chest as he leaned his head against her hair.

His face still red from embarrasment he tried to think of a way to regain his pride.

“Ok. Point taken I’ll stop doing the jersey bite.” Daniel huffed.

Jiyeon suddenly stopped laughing.

“Why? I think it’s y.” She responded indifferently.

“Ya! You just made fun of it.” Daniel accused placing his index finger poking her nose. She giggled cutely as her head flung back slightly.

“Oppa, I think it’s funny that’s why. But I think it’s like your point move.” She replied as she thought for a second.

“Like your chorus dance, it’s something people will remember and always watch for.”

Daniel nuzzled his head into her hair liking her response. The fresh and alluring smell of citrus and roses filling his senses.

“But oppa.” Suddenly there was an aggressiveness in her voice.

“Why did you hug that cheerleader? Back then, Lee Chaeun?”

Daniel chuckled at her jealousy.

“What do you mean? Cause she’s pretty obviously” He responded trying to joke.

The frown on her face made him instantly regret his playful teasing.

“Ahhh, I see. So you may as well date her then right?” Jiyeon turned around and began sulking. “...Cause she’s pretty.”

“I’m kidding.” He tried to make amends. “I really was just so happy and I had so much different emotions... that I wasn't really thinking. I wasn’t thinking about anything else."

Jiyeon nodded but began to sulk as she lay against the couch. Daniel couldn’t believe something from so long ago would suddenly reappear. He tried to place his arms around her, but she brushed them off.

“I’m sorry Jiyeon. I really wasn’t thinking back then.”

“I know.” Jiyeon seemed to ponder something.

“And we were apart at the time. So I guess I’ll forgive you… if you apologize.”

“I apologize.” Daniel didn’t hesitate this time placing his lips on her cheek.

“Actually I can do better than that.” He stood up from the sofa, gravity pulling Jiyeon off his shoulder and back down onto the other side of the sofa.

“What?” She inquired upset by his sudden movement.

He walked towards the kitchen.

 “I’ll cook you dinner.”

“Ok oppa.” Jiyeon sat back comfortably on the couch staring at the TV.

“Hey.” Daniel suddenly had a thought as he stared into his refrigerator. The Chinese label on a takeout container reminding him of a certain Chinese superstar.

“Shouldn’t you apologize for that time too? Huh?”

“What do you mean?” She inquired curiously resting her cute face against the back of the sofa now facing him.

“You know the dances… with Zhoumi and Hongbin.”

He had seen the steamy performances several times, each time filled with jealousy by their contact with her.

However, back then he had just been her fan.

“oppa. That’s different.” Jiyeon defended herself immediately.

“How?” Daniel questioned.

“That’s for work. I have to do that oppa. Being an MC on a music show you have to do couple performances."

She had a point.

“Ya, but isn’t it too much. You really looked like you were enjoying it.” He accused with unfounded jealously.

“Alright, alright oppa.” She jumped off the couch and rushed towards him.

She was wearing a cute white knit sweater tucked into a short black skirt. Catching him off guard as the cute figure jumped foward and embraced him tightly.

Realizing his enjoyment, he slowly returned the hug the warm feeling of the knit material against his arms.

“I’m sorry oppa. I’m sorry. I really didn’t like any of them. I only liked you even back then.” She assured him.

The hug was already a perfect apology.

She didn’t have to, but she did. Daniel loved that about her, she always knew what to do to make him feel more assured.

“I really like you. We can dance together if you want.” She whispered into his ear seductively.

“Ya. I can’t focus.” He tried to avert his eyes as he filled a pot with water to make a soup for dinner.

He tried to keep his eyes away from her to focus on cooking. But the sound of Jiyeon’s single 'Never Ever' whipped his eyes back to her. She leaned against the kitchen counter placing her hands down to steady herself as she did her famous hip swaying dance against it.

Entranced by her he couldn’t help but grin goofily. She pointed at him and then did a beckoning motion. He took a step forward and she propelled herself off the counter and wrapped her arms around his nape, and planted a kiss. His whole body suddenly captured into her charms.

When did you become this naughty?

The feeling of her soft lips was like a smooth silk blanket against his own. The subtle taste of lipstick as it dripped onto his tongue. Even with his eyes closed he could imagine her beautiful face, her large eyes forming a smile as she closed them, her tiny nose angling itself next to his. Her long hair brushed against his shoulders as she leaned forward closer into him.

“I have to… finish cooking.” He tried to reason with her pulling away to breathe.

All at once she pushed him against the counter and as one hand began to slowly descend along his back the other reached out and patting the surrounding environment before it found the knob to turn off the stove.

He liked this more aggressive side to her. It reminded him of the charismatic performer he fell hopelessly in love with.

“Let’s do something else… we can get take out tonight.” She purred as her loving eyes met his.

She smiled seductively and for a moment he wondered how someone so seductive and beautiful, could be so pure in her intentions. He grinned as he immediately returned with a kiss of his own.

"Jajangmyeon?" He inquired.

This time he moved his arms down and lifted her up so that his arms wrapped around her legs. Her long limbs in return wrapping around his waist.

She rested her own arms back around his neck. Cupping the back of his face with her hands as she leaned in for a kiss. He watched her move closer and closer the light on the ceiling, further radiating her beauty.

An angel. A devil. Who was she?

"Sounds good." She whispered quietly closing the gap between their faces.

He closed his eyes and turned his lips ever so slightly as they connected.

All at once their passionate feelings began to mix. Her tongue scraping against his they explored each other fully.

He pulled away for a breath.

An angel. She was a beautiful angel.

Daniel gently laid her onto the counter and ran one hand down the side of her sweatshirt’s knit pattern looking for an entrace inside. His other hand cupping her face, planting another kiss even more passionate than before.

Her hand met his and led him inside her sweater as his hands touched her bare skin.

“Shall we take this inside?” Jiyeon murmered as he nodded. He backed up slightly and she slid off the counter onto the floor and walked towards his bedroom, she slipped her sweater off as she entered. Daniel stared at her beautiful backside, the tattoo ‘my parents are my heart’ hidden under white bra straps.

Hypnotized he followed her towards his room as he watched her slip off her skirt, the fabric falling to the ground as she stepped out of it. She climbed onto the bed and turned around laying face up against the pillow.

Daniel already couldn’t contain his arousal but was finally broken by the seductive lip bite she did combined with her beautiful gaze. He slipped of his t-shirt and climbed onto the bed.

A devil. A seductive devil.

Daniel wasn’t sure when she had become so mature, how she had learned to make such seductive faces when her heart was so pure in her intentions. He loved her deeply.

No matter how selfish it was, he wanted her to himself.

She was both. His Jiyeon.

KOREABOO: T-ara’s Jiyeon stars in Netflix Webdrama 'My Runway' alongside musical actor Kang DongHo

December 18th, 2016

T-ara’s Maknae Jiyeon is famous for being two faced, her arrogant and y gaze and her cute pretty smile. We see a mix of both characters throughout the show. Though the show is full of cliches and the plot itself is far from entertaining. If you’re looking for something packed full of beautiful people and subpar personalities I’d give it a watch.

Also props to the director for making the 170cm tall Jiyeon feel short. She is a 165cm high school girl in it and you barely realize how tall she is in real life. Also at some point you would think the fact that the main lead has such a pretty face would just let her be a model. However, this never seems to be pointed out throughout the whole show.

I wasn’t a huge fan of the drama but enjoyed seeing more Jiyeon on TV after being left with only a few CFs.

Top Comments:
“Yes. I was in love with the second guy. Actually I thought it was a good height difference. The two different Jiyeon’s also made the show entertaining but relatively poorly written otherwise.”

“I watched it purely because of Jiyeon and found it barely watchable. She’s a good actor, but this isn’t the right show for her. I hope to see a different drama with her in it.”

… 12.24.2016

Daniel didn’t understand why she was so excited.

An inordinate amount of holiday spirit exuding from the comparatively small body of hers.

Honestly, he wasn’t against Christmas or anything. But… everywhere was so crowded. You couldn’t go anywhere, that wasn’t filled with people. Not exactly the best place for him.

Thankfully he had the day off, no game, no schedule, just time to spend with her. Personally he’d rather have spent it at his apartment. Like how his family often did during Christmas Eve, with relatives and family. A large Christmas party filled with fun.

He remembered the first time he had brought his girlfriend to the Christmas party. His first cheesy kiss under the mistletoe, laughing at his sister when she would go overboard singing carols.

Jiyeon, however, wanted to go and do everything. They had gone ice skating at a packed rink in Mapo-gu (commerical district). Well sort of... more like she had gone ice skating.

You try ice skating with a hoodie and large scarf basically blocking your vision.

However, with her guiding him through the giant crowd his hands clutching onto hers. Daniel couldn’t lie he enjoyed it. Jiyeon was as expected, great at figure skating.

She had mentioned before that she had gone several times with her members and was decent because of her skills at skateboarding as well.

However, he quickly realized she was just being humble as usual. Jiyeon, well… almost looked like Kim Yuna as she swerved between people skating quickly around the rink with speed and elegance.

When they finally exited the skating rink, Daniel might’ve been even more sweaty than after his games.

It had gotten to the point sweat even seeped into his eyes, blurring his vision. He humiliatingly requested for her help as she led him from the rink to the car.

He breathed a heavy sigh as he unwrapped his scarf and removed his hood. He glanced at his reflection in the window his entire face dripping with sweat.

Jiyeon was giggling as she walked over to him.

“Why are you so sweaty you didn’t even skate much? I did most of the skating.” She .

Daniel frowned as he had no comeback.

“Kiss?” He leaned forward, his face still covered in sweat.

Jiyeon sprang backwards like a cat avoiding a raging dog. Scowling at his playful attempt.

“Ya! Wipe your face first. You’ll catch a cold in this weather.” She reached into her purse and found a small handkerchief.

Daniel took it wiping his face several times before glancing back at his reflection.

“Better?” He turned around and before he could react he felt her soft lips against his.

“Better.” She whispered as she pulled away from the kiss.

He loved this. Jiyeon taking the initiative.

Daniel felt his cheeks heat up, but also a chill without her warm lips.

“Shall I get something to drink I saw a cafe nearby.” He inquired.

Jiyeon looked unsure.

“Shouldn’t I go?” Jiyeon offered.

And let her walk in the cold? He could already see she was shivering after skating for so long.

“It’s fine I’ll go buy, and you can wait in the car.” He proposed wanting her to stay warm.

Jiyeon nodded still hesitant.

“What do you want?”

“Mocha!” She spouted out her order like a cute child.

Daniel nodded and grabbed his cap before heading from the parking lot to the cafe. He also wrapped his scarf higher on his face so that it covered up until his nose.

From where he was walking he could still see the large crowd of people around the skating rink. A mall on one side, and the giant MBC building on another. The rink located in the Mapo district had become quite a trendy spot for groups of teenagers and young couples to gather around.

There was a trendy cafe he had been to before with his sister, that he wanted to show Jiyeon.

He realized his mistake when he entered. Part of him wondered if he should’ve let Jiyeon come.

A long line of people waiting to place their order filled the entire cafe.

Through the loud noise of conversation, Daniel could faintly hear BTOB’s ‘You can Cry’ playing in the background.

Afraid of being recognized he ducked his cap even lower and waited patiently as he reached for his phone.

Daehan: Sorry the line is pretty long

    Daehan: Do you mind waiting?

Jiyeon: As opposed to driving off with your car?

    Daehan: It’s a nice car

    Daehan: I wouldn’t blame you

    Jiyeon: It’s fine oppa

    Jiyeon: Take your time

Jiyeon: I’ll just be undressing in your brand new car.

Daniel blushed at the thought. He was missing out now.

Daehan: there better not be anyone else in the parking lot

    Jiyeon: Just me

    Jiyeon: And a handsome cheerleader

Daniel chuckled at her wit. Despite acting goofy and cute, she was also quite witty whenever they talked. Another thing that had led him to fall for her when they first started texting.

    Daehan: Touche

The line slowly began moving as more and more people began submitting orders.

He finally made it to the end of the line.

He ordered the drinks, and quickly walked out of line to wait in a corner.

    Jiyeon: Still waiting?

    Daehan: yup

Jiyeon: What should we eat for dinner?

    Daehan: what do you want?

    Jiyeon: Anything is fine.

Daniel finally heard his number called and left to retrieve the coffee. Quickly leaving the cafe, not wanting to be noticed, ducking his head as he left he cafe.

He walked down the street back towards the parking area. Finally noticing that most were too occupied by their conversations to notice him. He walked forward his concentration on the two paper cups in front of him, not wanting a single drop to spill out.

Suddenly he heard a huge gasp from behind him.

There was a squeal of delight from a young teenager.

Daniel quickly ducked his head once again. Had he been discovered. Even through his scarf?

He froze in place not moving an inch. Hoping that he could just blend into the scenery.

That’s when he felt someone almost collided into him.

He immediately turned out of the way barely able to save both cups of coffee.

“I’m so sorry.”

The deep voice was oddly familiar. He had heard it somewhere before. On TV.

He finally glanced up and noticed that he had almost collided with a cameraman.

The cameraman likely facing the opposite direction and failing to notice him.

“Wait aren’t you?”

Another deep voice inquired.

The taller man he recognized instantly. Kang Hodong. The former professional wrestler turned MC.

Oddly enough he was wearing a pair of Christmas antlers.

“You’re Daniel aren’t you?” Hodong recognized.

The other looked familiar as well, someone he had seen on TV growing up.

“Ah yes.” Daniel quickly bowed.

“The basketball player? The famous one?” The other celebrity asked. An older man with glasses goofily wearing a Rudolph nose and a Santa hat.

“Yes.”

Daniel noticed standing between them was a young woman. She looked strangely familiar.

He had seen her.

She was an I.O.I member.

“No way! Is it ok if you say a few words?”

He realized at that moment he had accidentally stumbled into a television program.

He knew Jiyeon was waiting… but, if he didn’t agree things might become more complicated.

“Ah, yes.” Daniel nodded hesitantly.

“We’re filming the show Let’s Eat Dinner Together, do you know?”

Daniel somewhat remembered it playing in the background while at Jiyeon’s apartment. But… he never really paid attention to the TV.

“Ah yes.” He answered.

“Wow, Daebak, this is great!” Hodong exclaimed before pointing towards the idol. “Do you know her?”

Daniel had by now regained his composure.

“Of course. IOI’s Sejeong. They mentioned me on that other show you do.” Daniel replied.

There was a bright smile on the idols face as she quickly bowed to him.

“Hello, nice to meet you.”

“Wow, look at how happy she looks when we meet someone handsome like him.” The older celebrity commented.

“Yes.” Sejeong replied shyly. “Daniel is like a sunbae to us.”

“Ah, then please wish us luck so we can win our competition too!” Hodong exclaimed in a loud voice.

“Ah, fighting!”

“We’re you getting coffee?” The other man asked him somewhat suspiciously.

Daniel had almost forgotten that he had two warm coffees in his hand.

This could be bad. He could already see the headlines.

“Ah, well my hoobae looked very cold, so I thought I’d buy her some coffee.” Daniel remarked quickly accessing the situation.

“So you saw us coming then?” Hodong inquired.

Daniel smiled brightly and nodded.

“I was skating earlier and wondered what was the big commotion.” He pointed towards the skating rink in the background.

“Are you ok with Americano?” He inquired to the cute idol.

She quickly held out her hands and accepted it. “Yes. Thank you.”

“Wow you didn’t get one for me?” Hodong remarked slightly sulking pretending to act cute.

“Aish shut up, his presence is already a present for our paychecks.” The other celebrity scolded him.

They all started laughing as Daniel bowed.

“Sorry, I have to be going. But Fighting!”

Daniel walked away, feeling… well like he had at least handled the situation to the best of his abilities.

When he saw Jiyeon resting peacefully in his car. The incident completely disappeared from his mind. Her beautiful resting face an abode for him.

He quietly opened the door and entered inside. She snapped awake instantly.

“What took you so long?”

“uhhh…” Daniel wasn’t sure how to explain.

“Here.” He handed her the mocha.

She took a sip of the coffee, before smiling in enjoyment.

“Where’s yours?”

Daniel began scratching his head.

“About that.”

Jiyeon could tell that he was tired. She knew that in his mind he had planned on spending Christmas Eve together at their apartment.

But, they had already spent so many dates hiding in their apartment.

Just for one day. One day wanted to experience what it was like to be like most couples. To have a Christmas date.

Jiyeon knew she was being greedy. She knew she was asking for a lot. However, she already felt at a disadvantage to him, what was a little more.

They had gone skating together, gotten dinner at a fancy restaurant, now they were standing looking at the giant Christmas tree. A giant lit up artificial display put on by the Seoul Plaza Hotel. It was packed. Thankfully, for once it was perfect. The darkness and crowds preventing anyone from really being able to spot them.

The two simply wore caps and walked hand in hand, entering the large mass of people trying to squeeze their way to take picture with the tree.

It was almost midnight. Christmas eve.

She wanted to make it a special one. She had never experienced so many things, so many things she had seen in movies. So many romantic things her members had gushed about during Christmas times.

Daniel tightly clenched her hand in his before leading her to a small opening in the crowd.

“Stand there.” He beckoned.

She walked to the empty space and turned around, smiling towards his phone as he snapped several pictures.

“Pretty.” She read his lips, the sound of the crowd too loud for her to hear him.

She walked over towards him, and wrapped her arm around his shoulder.

“Let’s take a selfie.” She requested leaning her head against his shoulder.

He held his phone in front of them, the large tree in the background.

“3, 2, 1.” He snapped a photo.

The dimly lit screen projected a reflection of the two of them with the Christmas tree in the background.

“3, 2…”

She knew he was going to turn this time… his wandering eyes had already betrayed him.

“1.”

This time when he turned to peck her on the cheek. Jiyeon was ready, facing him, leaning forward for her lips to brush against his.

They both immediately blushed as Jiyeon locked eyes with him. He glanced down towards her, his arms wrapping around her, his loving gaze lighting a fire in her heart.

Time was ticking down it would be midnight soon. She stood frozen unsure of what to do in such a situation.

Daniel took the initiative moving closer to her, he leaned down towards her.

“It’s almost midnight.” He whispered into her ear.

“Mmm.” Jiyeon whispered rubbing her cheek against his warm sweater, his hands gently her back.

She could see in the distance on someone else’s phone the time: 11:59.

“One more minute.” She commented.

“Perfect.” He removed one arm from her. She watched as he dug into his trench coat pocket.

There was a small piece of paper.

Jiyeon stared in confusion.

What was it?

“I tried to find a real one. But I guess this will have to do.” He unfolded the small piece of paper revealing a small plant printed onto it.

“Whats that?” Jiyeon inquired.

He responded in English something Jiyeon didn’t understand but enunciated something along the lines of: “Miss-aisle-Toe”

Jiyeon shook her head. He was clearly trying to think of a translation.

Suddenly a light bulb seemed to appear in his eyes.

Did he figure it out?

Jiyeon stared blankly between the piece of paper and his satisfied expression. He reached out with one hand and removed her cap handing it to her.

Jiyeon glanced around cautiously, but everyone there was too focused on the giant lit up tree to notice them.

Then he raised the small piece of paper above her head. Jiyeon followed his hand with her eyes, still confused what he was doing.

Before she could react, he suddenly dipped his head towards her and… Jiyeon tightly squeezed her eyes shut, his lips pressed against hers.

She understood it now. She had read about such American traditions before. Kissing underneath a mistletoe.

That must’ve been what he meant.

Usually Jiyeon, would’ve felt embarrassed for him. Ashamed to be doing such a cheesy thing. However, his affectionate gaze… she didn’t feel embarrassment.

Instead she embraced it. Deepening the kiss, as she heard people screaming in joy as midnight struck.

She didn’t want to part. But they finally did. The taste of his mouth still lingering on her tongue.

“Merry Christmas Jiyeon.” He whispered coyly.

She realized he had long since dropped the paper. Both of his large hands cupped her face. His handsome eyes boring into her, as if they could read her thoughts.

Thoughts she wished he never knew.

Otherwise she’d only feel more at a disadvantage in front of him.

Jiyeon found herself enjoying every second of their romantic Christmas Eve.

She wanted to be part of his life. Leave an impression on him, that would make him feel no regrets with his decision to love her. Yet somehow, in doing so, he had left an even bigger impression on her.

Merry Christmas Daniel. My Christmas Miracle.
