Love at First Bite
The Sunday sun was high up in the sky while the sound of sizzling oil echoed through the kitchen, submerging the space in the tempting aroma of bacon and pancakes. Standing in front of the stove, Hayoon was carefully flipping a pancake, making sure that it was fully cooked before stacking it on top of the pile of pancakes on the counter. Jongin was next to her, diligently supervising the bacon. Baekhyun in the meantime was lying on the sofa, his leg dangling in the air, eagerly awaiting for the food to be ready while the sound of the running shower served as reminder that Sehun was still taking his sweet time getting freshened up after having slept over the previous night following an impromptu movie night due to his sudden appearance.
It was one of those rare days where all of them were home, free from university assignments, free from work and free from the responsibilities of adult life. Just as Hayoon and Jongin set the table and placed the stacks of pancake and bacon in the middle, the door of the bathroom unlocked, a shirtless Sehun stepping out.
“God it smells amazing,” Sehun exclaimed while roughly drying his hair with a towel.
“Put on a shirt will you?” Baekhyun complained as he plopped down in a chair. “Show off.”
“You just wish you had my body.” Sehun smirked, purposefully flexing his biceps in the process.
Putting maple syrup, butter and freshly cut fruit on the table, Hayoon too sat down before turning towards Sehun and frowning at the male.
“Your dripping on the table, dry your hair properly.”
With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Sehun leaned towards the girl and started shaking his hair in her face, hitting her with tiny bullets of water. Hayoon let out a squeal and leaned backwards, coming into contact with Jongin who was in the middle of placing a pancake in Hayoon’s plate.
Taking a fork, Jongin used it to hit the top of Sehun’s head, causing the male to jolt from the sudden pain.
“This is physical abuse!”
“Just shut up and eat,” Jongin replied as he poured himself a glass of juice.
“Meanie.” Sehun pouted, but soon shifted his attention towards something else. “Anyway Baek, what’s up with your hair?”
Looking up from his plate, Baekhyun swallowed loudly, raising an eyebrow.
“What about it?”
Ignoring the male’s question, Sehun turned towards Hayoon instead.
“How have you managed to stay quiet about it.”
“It’s a mullet.” Hayoon shrugged. “He’s not inconveniencing anyone. Unlike you, showing up here unannounced because you need to hide from a crazy ex.”
“First of all, she was a one night stand, not an ex,” Sehun pointed out indignantly. “Second of all, it’s a bloody mullet. You literally chopped Jongin’s off when he had it last Christmas.”
“I was drunk.” Hayoon frowned, “And mullets look stupid.”
“Are you saying I look stupid Sunshine?” Baekhyun gasped in horror.
Giving the male a blank stare, Hayoon took her time sipping her juice and slowly chew on a mouthful of pancake before replying.
“You are stupid.”
Baekhyun threw a hand over his chest, as if he had been stabbed with a knife. Sehun snorted loudly, almost choking on his food. Jongin meanwhile unconsciously reached for his hair, recalling the sound of scissors snapping and the tickling sensation of his hair falling. Ever since that incident, Jongin had made it a point to receive Hayoon’s approval before going to the hairdressers’. Who knows what else the girl was capable of doing?
“But seriously Sehun,” Hayoon continued. “sort it out with that girl.”
“Yes mother. But I can count on using you as shield right?”
This earned him a jab in the ribs from the girl while both Jongin and Baekhyun threw him warning glares. In that moment, Hayoon’s phone buzzed. Unlocking the screen, she was surprised to find a message from someone that she had not spoken to in a long time, and di
