Candid Moments.
Love at First Bite
The morning sun streamed through the window, shining a spotlight on the sleeping figure hidden underneath the blanket, her face buried in her pillow. In that moment, Hayoon’s alarm went off, disturbing her sleep and pulling her back into the world of the living. Hands twitching, the sleepy girl reached towards her bedside table, successfully switching off the alarm. Rolling over to stare at her ceiling, Hayoon pushed the blanket off of her, sitting up while stretching her limbs.
Within minutes Hayoon was dragging her feet towards the bathroom, making sure to claim the use of the shower before Baekhyun would wake up and monopolise it. Sighing loudly, Hayoon closed her eyes as the hot water hit her skin, waking up every particle inside of her. Carefully rinsing the shampoo out of her hair, Hayoon quickly finished up, not wanting to be late on her first day of class.
As she exited the bathroom, the steam followed Hayoon into the corridor. Heading towards the kitchen, she was greeted by a half asleep Jongin who was munching listlessly on toast.
“You should dry your hair first,” the male chided.
“Can’t be bothered,” the girl responded, as she sat down on the dining table with a freshly made cup of earl grey tea.
Pouring a dash of milk in her mug, Hayoon hummed softly under her breath before stealing the toast that Jongin had just spread some jam on, earning a grunt of protest from the male. Gulping down his juice, Jongin stood up from his chair and took the towel that was hanging around Hayoon’s neck, deciding to dry her hair instead before the water started dripping all over the floor.
“Crap I’m going to be late.”
A disheveled Baekhyun rushed out of his bedroom and rushing into the bathroom. Soon the sound of running water could be heard. Within minutes Baekhyun was storming towards the door, almost tripping while sliding his shoes on. Pushing Jongin’s hand away, Hayoon stood up and shuffled towards the panicked male, hand clutching on his jaw and stuffing her toast in his mouth.
“You really need to wake up earlier,” Hayoon mumbled while flattening his hair to make him more presentable.
“What would I do without you Sunshine?” Baekhyun cooed through a mouthful of toast.
Slinging his bag over his shoulder, the male pinched Hayoon’s cheeks and sent Jongin a small wave before leaving the flat, not wanting to miss his bus.
“He’s never going to wake up earlier,” Jongin exhaled, handing Hayoon another slice of toast as she sat back down in her seat.
“Then we just lock up the bathroom so he can’t wash up unless he wakes up earlier. Or switch off the hot water while he showers,” Hayoon mused, a mischievous glint in her eyes.
Raising an eyebrow, Jongin simply shook his head, knowing full well that the girl was capable of doing that.
“Hurry and eat up or you’ll be the one running late.”
Nodding, Hayoon stuffed the remaining toast in , washing it down with tea before heading back inside her room. Fumbling through her closet, Hayoon changed into a simple dress, her short hair now mostly dry. Then sitting in front of her vanity, the girl lazily applied some CC cream, filling in her brows and picking a lipstick to match her outfit. Opening a drawer, Hayoon scanned its contents, picking out a pair of gold stud earrings to complement her gold-rimmed glasses. As she was closing the drawer, her eyes shifted towards a midnight blue velvet pouch pushed towards the corner. Her right hand instinctively reached for her left wrist, her fingers glazing across the empty skin. Shaking her head slightly, Hayoon shut the drawer, though she could not shake off the thought of whether Baekhyun had kept his bracelet.
“Yah Hayoon,” Jongin shouted from the other side of the door. “Let’s get going.”
Grabbing her bag with her laptop inside, Hayoon padded into the living room where Jongin was waiting for her. Sliding on a pair of sandals, the two headed towards KNUA, eyes squinting from the glaring August sun hanging in the sky. The walk was a short one, about fifteen minutes. The flat was conveniently located midway between KNUA and Dear Me, as well as within walking distance of KBS, so Hayoon could easily walk to all the places she regularly frequented. However the heat was rather unbearable even for Hayoon who was born and raised in Jeju island.
