The Velvet Masters

Chapter 4

The Space Kingdom

The car that was taking Seungwan to the King was way too small and she felt uncomfortable with her knees touching the back of the front seat. She tried to think of all the reasons why she could be going. The most logical was that she was being arrested, even though she did nothing wrong. Her brain ran out of rational explanations when the car abruptly stopped. Her head hit on the front seat's head rest and she complained rubbing her hand on her forehead.

"What the-"

The door to her side oppened all of a sudden and she was greeted with a butler smiling widely at her. Behinde him she could see the palace garden, absolutely beautiful. And as she looked further, she saw the palace. All she could see was tall white walls with four tall white columns next to the entrance, two on each side. Only five stairs seperated the garden from the door and she could feel herself getting anxious to get into the building. She had never seen what it looks like from the inside.

"Seungwan-shi, we've been waiting for you." The butler reached out his hand to help her get out.

He then gestured for her to follow him which she did, maintaining a confortable distance.

"Excuse me." She called. "Ahjussi." He kept ignoring her.

Once she was inside all she could stare at was the ceiling. It was enormous, with candelabras all over the place and huge windows. She was so mesmerised she didn't see the butler stopping in front of her and couldn't help but run into him.

He stayed firm while she almost fell over. She looked up and saw a magnificent dark blue door in front of them. It probably took them to the King's palace quarters.

"I'm here to bring miss Son Seungwan to the King." The butler said in a very serious tone and the door guard simply nodded, opening the door to let them in.

They entered a beutiful small library and the man gestured for her to sit on a blue sofa that was near a desk full of oppened books. "Wait here miss, the King is just finishing a meeting." With this he left the room.

Seungwan waited several minutes before she got bored and started looking around the room and checking out the books. She saw many familiar ones. Many novels and even fisics books and other theories. The biggest she found was about philosophy, one of her greatests passions. She was about to start reading when she heard a muffled conversation outside the door.

"Has she arrived?"

"Yes your Majesty, she is waiting for you."

She carefully put the book back where it was and turned to face the door. When it oppened, a thirty something year old man she knew as the King entered. He didn't offer her a smile, instead, worried features graced his face. Seungwan knew at that moment that whatever reason she was there for was, it wasn't a simple matter.

"Seungwan-shi." He acknowledged her presence and ran his hand through his hair. "I called you because you may be the only person in this damned Kingdom to help me solve this problem." She stared at him confused and waited for him to continue. "There have been murders all over the Kingdoms and no one seems to understand why. The victims appear to only be humanes. I haven't spoken to the other rullers but I'm afraid this is the beginning of a genocide." She was getting a headache from looking at him go back and foward in the room.

"You expect me to know who's behind this?" She asked incredulous.

"No. Not at all. But since you are one of the smartests citizen I suppose you could help me solve it." He sighed. "I heard you are a big fan of human mystery novels, specially the ones with Sherlock Holmes." He smiled a bit.

"I guess." She looked down. "But that doesn't mean that I can read through criminal minds." She raised her voice frustrated. "This is severe. This is...I don't even know how to describe it. Who would want to wipe out the humanes?"

"I'm afraid it's not just the humanes." His smiled dropped and stared straight into her eyes. "Humans are being attacked too."

"That can't be. That's forbidden. We're supposed to protect them. Not kill them." She felt her pulse quicken and her breathing was getting uneven. She realised it was the start of a panick attack.

"That's why we must stop them. I have been trying to contact the Goddess for days now but she still hasn't responded."

Seungwan sat down trying to process what was going on.

"What should we do? We can't sit around waiting for her to respond while they're still out there killing people." She grabbed the sofa arm to help stable her breathing.

"I'm afraid there is nothing we can do." The King answered defeated while he sat on the sofa in front of her and hid his face on his hands.

Seungwan tried to think all possibilities of who could be doing this. She sighed, her eyes traveled around the room, sometimes staring at different objects helped her think. Her stare went from the King to the book shelves to a painting next to the King's desk. It was a rather odd painting, it was very plain, just a desert and a sun. She dropped her gaze to the painting's name. "The Golden Moon" she read.

All of a sudden her eyes opened wider and she couldn't help but get up. This startled the King and he eyed her confused. "What is it?" He asked.

"The golden moon."

"Excuse me?"

"I've had the answer all this time." She whispered to herself.

"Would you mind explaining?" The king asked her impatiently.

"A few months ago I found a prophecy in a hidden page of the book "The Five Kingdoms" and at first I was intrigued and wanted to find out what it meant, but now...It's so clear." She smiled and he looked at her as if he were telling her to recite the prophecy. "Five elements must unite at the golden moon and save the universe from its doom."

The King's face turned from confusion to realization. He quickly went to his desk to find a notepad.

"This is brilliant." He exclaimed. "That's what we need. The five elements united." He ripped a page off the notepad.

Seungwan observed everything he was doing and continued her thought out loud. "That's it. We have to search for a half-god in each kingdom. We must make some kind of Avengers team." She joked with relieve that they had actually solved it. "But...What is it? The golden moon?"

"It's the sun." He looked straight into her eyes. "But a very special sun. You see, every million years this occurs." He grabbed a pen and started drawing the solar system. "During this day, the earth doesn't do its normal trajectory. It moves a little towards the sun, making it the hottest day. Ever."

"With the sun so next to us...Our powers become stronger." She realised. "That's when the elements must unite. To save all existence."

"Exactly. That's when they plan on attacking. And that's when the elements must fight them." He sighed. "...Save the universe from its doom."

"But wait." She then turned her back to him and faced the window."The Soul Kingdom." She turned her head to face him."That's where they'll attack during the golden moon. The place where all the souls live. The soul river."

The King's eyes widened and he called the guards. "We must go to the Soul Kingdom. Now."
