Chapter Fifteen
He Wouldn'tIt was 2am and Jin’s phone was ringing. This was not a normal occurrence, the only people who tended to call him rather than message him were his parents and his brother and there was no reason for them to be awake at such a late hour. With a frown he picked his phone up from his bedside table, having no idea who it could be. And then he saw the name on the screen and the frown became one of worry rather than confusion.
It was Jungkook and that didn’t make sense. Jungkook was staying with his parents, he was supposed to be resting. Calling people at two in the morning wasn’t resting. There must be something wrong Jin thought, swiping to answer, hurriedly bringing his phone to his ear. Why else would he be calling so late?
“What is it?” he asked, not bothering to waste time on a greeting, “Did something happen?”
Yoongi, who’d just come into the room, still towel drying his hair froze, obviously wondering what was going on.
“Nothing happened.” Were the words that came back down the line.
“Then why are you calling?” Jin asked him, unconvinced. “They didn’t send you to Busan just so you could talk to your parents, you could have done that over the phone or over webchat. They sent you there to rest. You should be asleep.”
“I know.” Jungkook told him, sounding a little sheepish. “I’ve been trying to sleep, I promise. I just… I can’t seem to. I keep waking up. So I started messing around on my phone and ended up in our group chat and saw Tae and Jimin were awake and sending each other stupid messages and I realised I miss you guys. It made me feel kind of homesick. Is that strange?”
“A little.” Jin told him, relieved there was nothing seriously wrong and briefly wondering why Jimin and Taehyung were using group chat to communicate when the last time he’d checked they were in the same room playing video games. They could be really weird sometimes. “I mean you’re at home so…”
Noticing the smile on Jin’s face and deciding that meant there was nothing to worry about Yoongi sat down at the end of the bed and left him to it, going back to towelling his hair dry.
“I know that.” Jungkook said and Jin could imagine the roll of the eyes that surely accompanied the words. “I know this is home. But the dorm, that’s home too. And I miss it. It’s too quiet here.”
Jin thought the same thing sometimes when was visiting his own parents, as amazing as it was getting to see his family the quiet was sometimes difficult to get used to. But while he could relate he was still suspicious. This wasn’t the first time Jungkook had gone back to Busan, he’d been back many times before and not once had he called him to talk, never mind called him at two in the morning. “Is that all it is?” Jin asked, sure that it wasn’t. “It’s not your parents, is it? Are they angry with you? Did they yell at you?”
“No.” Jungkook assured him. “They didn’t yell. They weren’t happy but they didn’t yell. They just… well they’re really disappointed in me.” He admitted, sounding dejected. “They keep saying they’re okay with it, that they’ll be there to help but I can see it in their eyes. I’ve let them down.”
“Don’t be silly.” Jin told him, wishing they were talking face to face not over the phone. Jungkook was clearly in need of a hug right now and it was frustrating that he couldn’t give him one. “You haven’t let them down. It was an accident. Accidents happen.”
“I have.” Jungkook argued. “When they let me go to Seoul to audition they were trusting me to be a grown-up, to look after myself. And now I’m pregnant. How is that not letting them down?”
“You’re not letting them down.” Jin insisted. “You made
