She rushed to the hospital with worry plastered all over her. She just got a call saying Baekhyun had gotten into a car accident.

As she walks into Baekhyun’s ward, she was greeted by Baekhyun whose face is covered in bandage and stitches. “Baek!”, she yelled and walked closer to him. He was half unconscious, and it was obvious he was in a deep pain. But somehow he still managed to form a smile.

“Gyu..”, he spoke with a small laugh. “I probably look so ugly.”, he spoke as Gyu Won couldn’t help but to cry. “You idiot! How could you still laugh, you could’ve died! What happened, baek?”, She spoke with tears falling from her eyes.

She could’ve lost him.

“Hey, hey don’t cry…”, he spoke softly. He tried to open his eyes but it seemed hard for him. “I will be okay, Gyu. I will be having my I surgery tomorrow and I can promise you that I’ll survive. I’m strong, remember?”, He spoke and smiled. Gyu Won shook her head. “Baekhyun please, I can’t lose you..”, she spoke in a desperate, begging tone.

“Baby, I’ll make it through. Remember that one time I fell down and had a scratch on my knee? I survived didn’t I? We even sang our song.”, Baekhyun spoke with a small laugh as Gyu Won laughed softly.

“Promise me, you’ll make it okay?”, she spoke with a soft smile. “I promise, Gyu. Now let me go to sleep, okay?”, He spoke with both his eyes closed. “Alright, Baek.”, she spoke in a gentle tone as she kissed his forehead softly.

Baekhyun always know how to cheer her up, and he always do.

C H A P T E R  EI GHT

“Park Chanyeol. Gyu Won’s ex-FIANCEE.”

“I never knew you were engaged.”, Baekhyun spoke as his eyes were lowered to the ground. The three of them were sitting by the living room with Chanyeol beside Gyu Won and Baekhyun in front Chanyeol.

Gyu Won silenced for a while before diverting her eyes to Baekhyun. “Yeah… It has been half a year since we ended it..”, She answered as Chanyeol looked into her with a soft smile.

Baekhyun stared into Chanyeol. “And… where did you met this guy?”, Baekhyun asked, he’s not liking the way he feels. He feels uncomfortable and somewhat, jealous?

Gyu Won looked into Chanyeol as Chanyeol softly chuckled.

“We met at college. I asked her to be my girlfriend and she said yes.”, Chanyeol answered simply with a smile as Gyu Won softly smiled too.

“And.. why exactly did you guys broke up?”, Baekhyun asked more as Chanyeol raised an eyebrow. “Hey there, man. Don’t you think there’s too much question going on? What are you, an inspector?”, Chanyeol spoke with a small scoff.

Baekhyun silenced as he was taken aback. Gyu Won cleared as she turned her face to Chanyeol. “Why did you come? Don’t you have work today?”, she asked in a gentle tone as Chanyeol smiled.

“Well, the funeral informed me that you fainted yesterday and that you also called in sick. How could I not come and visit?”, he spoke softly as he patted her head softly. She let out a soft chuckle as she gently smiled. “You shouldn’t have come..”, she spoke.

Baekhyun cleared his throat as he stood up. “I… should be leaving. Thank you for the hospitality I guess.”, he spoke and walked out to the front door, his heart slightly crushing and confused.

Gyu Won stood up too and walked after him. She opened the door for him as he looked into him straight in the eye. “T-Thank you for coming, Baek. And.. I’m sorry for earlier. That wasn’t nice of me, y-yelling at you.”, she spoke, her eyes focused on the ground.

Baekhyun stared into her, there’s suddenly something captivating about her. Maybe by the way she talks, maybe by the way her cheek flushes up. Maybe by the way her eyelid flutters, or maybe he just misses her too much.

He doesn’t even realize that he’s staring at her when Gyu Won called his name. “Baek, you there?”, she spoke with a soft tone as Baekhyun smiled. “Yeah, I mean it’s okay. The past is the past. I was the wrong one. But take my words, hurting you was never my intention.”, He spoke as he stares deeply into her eyes.

She smiled back softly. “Thank you for coming.”, she spoke as Baekhyun smiled and walked out through the door and vanish.

She closed the door as her eyes diverted to Chanyeol. There’s sadness in her eyes. Chanyeol walked to her and pulled her into his embrace.

“Was that the Baekhyun you told me about?”, He asked in a gentle tone. She laid her head by his chest.

              “Let’s not talk about it.”, she spoke, tears threatening to fall.

Gyu Won went back to work by the next day as her headache had cured a little. It was still a bit dizzy but she managed to ignore it.

It was a busy day, and the whole funeral was packed with people.

“What the is this? I specifically informed that I want white orchids by the funeral room!”, a guy yelled as Gyu Won shut her eye tight. It was an honest mistake and she had totally forgotten about the request.

“I am so sorry, sir. It was a mistake, it won’t happen again in the future.”, she spoke calmly, trying her best to fight the urge to burst into tear.

The guy scoffed. “What? You want me to wait for someone else to die before you’ll be able to provide my ing white orchids?”, he half yelled as people walking around the hall starts to stare and whisper.

Gyu Won lowered her head to the ground as she apologized. “I’m sorry, sir. There’s no need to curse.”, she spoke in a gentle tone as the man in front of her pushed her just slightly by the shoulder.

“Did your mother drop you when you were a baby? How much of a dumb can you be?!”, He yelled in a loud voice as another co-worker came interrupt.

“Sir, please. This is a funeral home. Respect the others please.”, the girl spoke as the man looked into Gyu Won with his eyes shooting daggers.

“Get this girl out of my sight.”, He spoke in a firm tone. The girl looked into Gyu Won before holding her by the shoulder and pushed her away from the scene.

As they walked to the staff’s room, the girl held Gyu Won’s hand tight and smiled. A single tear fell from Gyu Won’s eye as she sniffed.

 “It’s okay. It was a mistake.”, She spoke as Gyu Won nodded. “I’m sorry, I was careless.”, Gyu Won spoke as she held her tear.

The girl smiled softly. “Hey, hey it’s fine. I’ll let you go back home early today. I’ll cover your night shift up, alright? You need to rest.”, she spoke as Gyu Won smiled to her.

“Thank you, you’re the sweetest.”, Gyu Won spoke in a soft tone as the girl smiled back in return.

On her way home, Gyu Won stopped by a grocery store as she shut her eyes tight.

It has been hectic lately, and it seems like she’s not too strong to handle it. She thought of quitting her job at the funeral home, and it seems like that’s the best decision.

She bought a strawberry flavoured ice cream as she walk out of the store. Her heart is aching and her tears are threatening to fall. She unwrapped the ice cream as she lets out a soft, barely audible sigh.

As she was on her way to the bus stop, a man bumped onto her roughly causing her to drop her ice cream. “I’m sorry, mis-”, the man stopped his word as he stared into her.

“Gyu Won?”, the familiar voice spoke as Gyu Won looked into the man that had bumped into her. “Baekhyun?”, she spoke softly, her voice sounding kinda hoarse.

Baekhyun examined her. “Hey, you alright? I’m sorry I bumped onto you it was an accident..”, he spoke slowly as Gyu Won bit her lower lips and stared to the melting ice cream on the ground.

“Gyu..? Are you alright?”, Baekhyun asked in a concerning tone.

“No I am not alright!”, she yelled as tears fall through her eyes. Baekhyun stared into her with wide eyes. “Hey, hey what happened?”, Baekhyun asked as he pulled her hand and held it tight.

She cried and cried as Baekhyun stood up motionless. His hand still holding hers tightly. Her hand was cold, but his was warm.

As she settled down, they were both sitting by the bus stop. She explained to Baekhyun how she was yelled to at the funeral home for a mistake she had done and Baekhyun listened to it quietly.

She lowered her eyes as another tear fell. It’s tearing her apart and she had never been this sad.

“Hey I know what will cheer you up. You remember the brown dog from high school right?”, Baekhyun spoke in a cheerful tone as Gyu Won stared into him. “Yeah… the one with the long ears right..”, she spoke, sniffling.

“Well, remember that one time the dog stole your lunch and we literally chased him all the way through the school and even missed chemistry class?”, Baekhyun spoke laughing as Gyu Won couldn’t help but to form a smile on her lips.

“And we had detention, and- and”, Baekhyun couldn’t stop his word as he was laughing. “We found my sandwich inside the pool!”, Gyu Won slightly yelled as they both broke into laughter. “Screw you for reminding me that!”, she spoke followed by a small laugh.

As they both had finally stopped laughing, they stared into each other.

“It worked.”, Baekhyun spoke in a soft tone. Gyu Won stared into him with her eyes slightly smiling.

Baekhyun always know how to cheer her up, and it works every time.
