Chapter 33: Being a good guy.

Youngmin finally went to the school after being for almost a month in the hospital. The doctor put him a splint on his shoulder and ribs.

He was walking slowly to his locker when he saw Donghyun bullying a younger boy.

• I told you to do my homework! You are going to pay that! –Donghyun said grabbing the boy’s collar.
• I’m sorry, but my mom got sick and I had… -the boy said scared
• Won’t you stop? –Youngmin said raising a brow and twisting his mouth. Donghyun looked at him with widened eyes.
• Youngmin! You’re back! –he said smiling but still holding the boy’s shirt. Youngmin glared at him.
• Just do your own homework and leave that little boy alone. –he said with a serious tone.
• What? –he said with a confused face.
• What you heard. Look at me. I almost die three weeks ago because of a bully. Violence only generates more violence. I thought that people respected us, but they are scared of us! So, let’s live like good hyungs and oppas till graduation. –Youngmin said smiling.
• You’re seriously insane. –Donghyun said astonished.
• Just do it. –Youngmin said with a creepy smile.
• OK… -Donghyun said and gulped.

Youngmin continued walking to his locker and picked up his books. The boy followed him to thank him.

• Youngmin ssi, right? –He said shyly.
• Yes. –Youngmin said smiling.
• Kamsahabnida. –the boy said bowing.
• You don’t have to thank me. Study hard and if someone bothers you tell me and I will defend you, ok? –he said.
• How could you defend me if you are injured? –he said pointing at his shoulder.
• Yah! I’m Jo Youngmin! I can beat down anyone with my eyes closed. –he said. The boy chuckled a bit. –don’t laugh! –Youngmin said upset.
• I’m sorry. –the boy said. –Anyway, thank you so much Youngmin ssi. –he said bowing and walked away.
• Chh… this boy… -Youngmin said.
• I’m glad you are a good person now. –Gyuwon said extending her hand. Youngmin gave her his books.
• Well, I realized that violence only generates more violence. I don’t want anyone to feel anger against me, because hating someone destroys your soul. –Youngmin said and sighed. Gyuwon smiled.
• I’m glad you understood it. –Gyuwon said and held his hand.

They walked to their class and they greeted the teacher.

• Youngmin-ssi! I’m glad you’re back. Please take your seat. –the teacher said smiling.

They bowed and took their seats. A group of cute girls greeted him and gave him some presents.

• Oppa I’m so glad you’re fine. We all were worried about you. –the leader of them said smiling.
• Thanks for worrying. Now I’m fine, I’ll study hard for my exams and you should study hard too. Arasso? –he said smiling back.
• Neh Oppa! –they said giggling.

The classmates started whispering gossips about Youngmin. Youngmin looked down realizing of how much people said he deserved it for bullying other guys. “I can’t believe what kind of person I am. I feel so bad about it” he thought. This was the first time he noticed how much people he had hurt physically and emotionally. Commentaries from some boys saying: “Gyuwon is such a good person. I can’t believe she’s with that jerk”. He sighed and opened his book feeling bad. Gyuwon looked at him and gave him a sweet smile; he smiled slightly at her and continued paying attention to class ignoring everyone.

• That’s all for today. Remember the exam will be tomorrow, so study hard if you want to graduate. –the teacher said.

The bell rang and the students stood up from their seats.

• Youngmin and Gyuwon, could you please come here for a second? –the teacher said.

They stood in front of the teacher’s desk and bowed.

• You know that final exams start tomorrow, right? And… since Youngmin was absent for a month, I think that you can help him to study, since you are the best in the class. –the teacher said.
• Neh seonsaengnim. –Gyuwon said bowing.
• Ok, then study hard and take care. –the teacher said smiling.
• Neh! –they both said in unison.

After some more classes, it was recess time already. Youngmin and Gyuwon sat down together.

• I thought you were going to eat with your friends. –Youngmin said.
• I want to eat with you for today, why? Can’t I? –she said raising a brow.
• Anio! I’m not saying that. It’s just that I’m happy that you sat down with me. –Youngmin said smiling.
• Chh… -Gyuwon said rolling her eyes trying to hide she was blushing.
• Would you feed me? –Youngmin said extending his hand with the chopsticks.
• Yah! Your shoulder is injured, but your other arm is alright.  –Gyuwon said glaring at him. Youngmin pouted making puppy eyes. –Aishh… arasso.. –she said taking the chopsticks.
• Yay! –Youngmin said celebrating. Gyuwon fed him. –Mada! –Youngmin said smiling. Gyuwon smiled at him.

Youngmin heard some whispers about him. He felt so bad about it, because he knew he wasn’t a good person in the past. Gyuwon looked at him worried.

• Are you okay? –she asked. Youngmin stood up on the table.
• Could you listen to me for a second? –he screamed. Everybody looked at him confused.
• Youngmin, what are you doing? Sit down! –Gyuwon whispered embarrassed.
• I know that some of you are happy that I’m fine, but I also know some of you think I deserved this, also some of you even would have liked that I died and I perfectly understand the reasons why you would like that. What I want to say is… that I’m sorry. I’m sorry if I hurt you in any way, physically or emotionally, I’m very sorry. And I promise you that from now on I’ll try to be a good hyung, a good oppa and a good dongsaeng. I also have to say sorry to my friends Donghyun and Minwoo for filling your heart with hate and anger. Let’s just try to be good persons now. And… to my dongsaeng Kwangmin, because I didn’t protect you like I was supposed to do. I’ll be a better hyung. And for the ones that say that I’m not good enough for this amazing girl that is sitting next to me, I want to tell you that I might not be the perfect man, but I love her and I’ll try to be a better person, so she could be proud of me. Thank you. –he said and sat down again.

Gyuwon looked at him puzzled with widened eyes. Youngmin looked away trying to hold his tears. Gyuwon held his hand and he looked at her.

• What you just have done, takes guts.
• Noona… I know I have been a bad person in the past, but now I want to be a good guy. I want that you feel proud of me. –he said with teary eyes.
• I’m proud of you right now, my baby. –she said wiping his tears with her thumb.
• But you know… people don’t think that I’m good enough for you. –Youngmin said shrugging.
• Since when do you care about what people say? I love you, with your virtues and defects, there’s no one else for me. –Gyuwon said lifting his head smiling. Youngmin smiled shyly.
• Thanks for giving me a chance. –he said.

Ahjin, Hyunseong and Kwangmin were having lunch together; they were still confused about what Youngmin did.

• Did I hear right? What happened to your brother? –Hyunseong said.
• I don’t know, maybe being alone in the hospital made him think about it. –Kwangmin said.
• Youngmin has always been a good person, it’s just that he became cold after your parents divorced, and when his friend died, his heart filled of pain that he turned into hate and anger.
• Yeah, you’re right. –Kwangmin said and sighed.
• I’m always right. –Ahjin said smiling and sipped his juice.

After classes Gyuwon went to Youngmin’s house to study for the exams.

• And this… is my room. –Youngmin said opening his room door. Gyuwon looked at it amazed. –It’s better than Kwangmin’s one, right?
• Whatever, let’s just study. –Gyuwon said taking out her books from his schoolbag.
• Studying is so boring, let’s just hang out. –Youngmin said.
• Where’s the Youngmin that said he would try to be a better guy? –Gyuwon said raising a brow.
• Ok, let’s just study. –Youngmin said with a bored expression.

Gyuwon started explaining him all the class lessons. Youngmin was paying attention since he really needs to pass this exam for graduating; actually, Youngmin is very intelligent as Kwangmin, so he can learn easily.

• So, that’s how you solve this equation. Did you understand it? –Gyuwon asked him. Youngmin nodded. –Ok then let’s see the next topic.
• Let’s just take a break. –Youngmin said whispering on her ear making her shiver. He kissed her cheek slowly. Gyuwon closed her eyes and turned to him.
• Youngmin-ah… -she said getting closer to him.
• Neh? –Youngmin said and gulped.
• You know? –she said holding his chin.
• What? –Youngmin said his heart was beating so fast.
• I haven’t noticed that you are so… -she said coming closer to him, their lips almost touching.
• So… -Youngmin said hyperventilating.
• Stupid! –Gyuwon said and hit his forehead.
• Ouch! Why did you do that? –Youngmin said rubbing his forehead.
• Because we have to study, plus it’s funny to bother you. –she said chuckling.
• Yah! –Youngmin said upset. Gyuwon laughed at him.
• Don’t get mad Younguie. I was just teasing you. –She said fixing his hair.
• Chh… -Youngmin glared at her.
• Did you seriously get mad? I was just kidding. –Gyuwon said raising a brow surprised. Youngmin looked away angry.
• I’m sorry. –Gyuwon said and got closer to him to give him a peck on his cheek but Youngmin turned around and kissed her on the lips. –Yah! Youngmin-ah! –she said surprised.
• Don’t get mad baby, I was just having fun with you. –Youngmin said with a poker face.
• Yeah… whatever, I’m not going to argue with you. Let’s just study, ok?
• Ok… -Youngmin said and sighed bored.
