It Hurts to Hurt You

On early Saturday morning, Kyungri had sent Hyesun to the Seoul Station. Before dropping her off, they had breakfast together at a cafe at the train station.

“It’s so nice to have a hot coffee in the morning,” Kyungri said as she sipped her latte.

“Yeah, especially in such cold weather, it makes you crave for hot coffee even more,” Hyesun agreed as she took a spoonful of red velvet cake into .

The two girls stayed quiet for a few minutes before the older spoke, “How hot are the boys in your new school compared to your previous school?”

The question made Hyesun put back the cup of coffee on the table and gave a look at her cousin, “Don’t you have a better question? Like how my study is or do I make new friends something? Stop talking about boys, Park Kyungri. You can’t even get Kim Sunggyu in your hand,” she blurted out.

“What are you saying?!” Kyungri almost shrieked but she controlled her voice since she didn’t want to cause a scene at a public place so she sneakily kicked Hyesun’s leg under the table.

“Ouch!” the kicked girl winced in both pain and shock. She gave an unsatisfied look to Kyungri as she held out her fist, “Why did you kick me?! I did say the right thing, didn’t I?”

“Who cares if it’s the truth when it’s making me angry? Sunggyu is just different from the other guys I look at, okay? It’s a matter of time to make him mine,” Kyungri’s eyes glistened as she thought about Sunggyu.

Hyesun snorted unbelievably at Kyungri’s declaration, “Seriously Park Kyungri, it’s been a year and you’re not even making a move! If you want to argue about chance, come on, you see him every day! He goes to your college, he’s in the same course with you and he’s even your classmate! What’s so hard about approaching him? I swear you’re really frustrating me with how slow you are. If you need my help to set you—”

“No thanks! I said I’ll do it my way, remember? It would be more meaningful rather having someone else doing it for me,” Kyungri interjected immediately.

“See? You refuse my help but you’re not doing anything about it. How are things going to work?” Hyesun frowned. If Kyungri allowed her to help with it, she would have talked to Sunggyu by now.

“I’m not that desperate yet to have his attention, okay? At least not that desperate. I’ll figure out something about it soon. Besides, you told me he’s not the type to do relationship, right? And I’ve seen him rejecting two, three girls, even though they were just asking him for his phone number. How am I going to approach him?” Kyungri sighed as she pouted.

“This is why you should let me help you. Not only him, even all of them don’t do relationships. Woohyun and Sungyeol might seem like they attract girls, but they don’t do more than just friendships with girls,” to think about it, maybe they’re affected by L’s past relationship. That’s why they refuse girls in their life even not completely.

“Let’s just end this topic here for today, okay? It’s already 8 now, you should go. You don’t want to miss your train, do you?” Kyungri simply ended the topic regarding Sunggyu. She didn’t really want to think about it for now.

“If you change your mind, let me know as soon as possible. I would gladly help you,” the younger playfully winked at Kyungri.

However, Kyungri took the initiative to just ignore her, “Go now. Your train is leaving soon. Tell my parents and gramps that I miss them so much. Don’t forget to send my regards to uncle and auntie, also that Jungkook brat. You’re taking night train right, tomorrow? Call me when you’ve arrived in Seoul. I’ll pick you up as immediate,” she said; smiling.

Hyesun tsk-ed at Kyungri for avoiding her question, “I’ll be going. See you soon,” she said to Kyungri as she stood up from her seat. She took the black travel bag next to her and wore it on her back. She waved to Kyungri before her figure completely vanished from Kyungri’s sight.

Kyungri let out a sigh, “Kim Sunggyu, why is it so difficult for me to approach you? It seems like the hardest thing to do when it’s not even that hard the slightest bit. Maybe it’s time for me to put away all the shyness and the nervous feeling around you,” she mumbled only for herself to hear before sipping down the coffee.

Hyesun’s words earlier lingered around her mind as she sighed again. I hate to admit it but that girl is right. What’s so hard about approaching a guy that you see every single day and even almost every second in college? I always have the chance but I’m the one who doesn’t take it. For God’s sake, Park Kyungri! He’s just a human like you. Why are you always hesitating to approach him? From now on, I must take every chance I have to try to get his attention! Yes, Park Kyungri, go for it! She mentally cheered for herself as her fists tightened.

“But again, how am I going to do it?” she said to herself as she buried her face in her palms.

Since it’s still considered early, Kyungri decided not to go home and stopped at a bookstore. She hasn’t had the time to read nowadays because college life is forbidding her and she hasn’t bought books in awhile. Since final test was finally over and the semester break had just started, she decided to reunite with her favoured hobby, which is reading to spend her time wisely.

After parking her car, she walked to a bookstore that she often went to. She noticed the bookstore just started operating for the day since the workers were still busy organising books and other stuffs. As she entered the small bookstore, a voice welcomed her.

“Welcome to Your Bookstore—oh, it’s you!” the voice which belongs to a girl chirped.

Kyungri looked at the worker and smiled in recognition, “Good morning, Minha,” she politely greeted.

“Good morning, Kyungri. It’s been so long since the last time you came here, are you busy?” the girl named Minha asked with a happy voice.

Kyungri nodded, “Yeah, college is keeping me busy. I don’t even have time to leisure around so now that it’s finally semester break, I’ll love to have fun.”

Minha slightly pouted, “Aw poor you. I hope you rest well on this break.”

“Yeah, that’s what I’m planning to do. So, what new books do you have?” Kyungri asked as her eyes wandered around at the latest books section.

“We have loads and I’m sure you’ll love them all! Enjoy yourself!” Minha grinned before she went back to her previous works.

Kyungri was so engulfed with the books. Every book seemed to garner her attention that she had a hard time choosing which to buy, “I wish I can buy them all,” she muttered.

“Then buy them all,” a voice whispered right behind her.

Kyungri gasped in shock as she accidentally dropped the books she was holding onto the floor, “Oh my!” she bent down to pick up the books.

“I’m sorry if I shocked you, Kyungri,” the guy apologised as he also helped her with the books before the both of them stood up. He handed her the books.

Kyungri’s eyebrows twitched hearing her name uttered by the guy so she slowly turned her head to look at him and when she did, she couldn’t help but to freeze on her spot. It felt like Do Minjoon had stopped the time for a minute because she seriously couldn’t do anything at that moment.

“Kyungri?” the male called out for her since he noticed she seemed to be dozing off.

“Huh?” that was the only thing she could say as her eyes went rounder.

The male couldn’t help but to chuckle at her reaction. Reminds me of Hyesun. “Are you okay?”

Lord, did he just chuckle? Did he just talk to me? Did he just do that?! Get a grip, Park Kyungri! “Y-Yeah, I’m okay. What are you doing here, Sunggyu?” she tried her best to control her expression and not looking too obvious.

“I’m searching for some new comics. Seems like you are searching for books too, huh?” the guy or to be exact; Sunggyu asked the obvious. He was just trying to make a conversation with her.

Kyungri nodded to his question, not sure how to answer him well, “Yeah, since I love reading a lot so why not spend this short break with reading?” she smiled.

“You’re right. By the way, have you had breakfast?” Sunggyu asked.

Not expecting the question, Kyungri contemplated to answer him. Who knows if he’s actually asking me to have breakfast with him. Just try your luck, Park Kyungri. “I only had a hot coffee earlier before coming here,” she answered.

“That’s good! Do you want to accompany me for breakfast? But if you don’t want to, I understand though,” he politely said.

For real he’s really asking me that!!! Just what luck is this! She tried to remain calm but inside, it seemed like she was flying across the rainbow riding unicorn, “I’d love to.”

After choosing some books (and in Sunggyu’s case, there’re comics) and paying, they headed out to a bakery which was located on the same street as the bookstore.

“Have you come here before?” Sunggyu started the conversation once they had settled down after choosing bakeries and desserts.

“It’s my first time here. This place seems homey and I love the decoration,” Kyungri answered as her eyes looked around the bakery. The scent of breads filled the air and her stomach growled in response.

“Really? You should thank me later for bringing me here because the bakeries here are the best ones in town!” Sunggyu held up his thumb.

Soon, two cup of peppermint teas arrived on their table. After thanking the waiter, both of them started to eat the bakeries they had chosen earlier. Kyungri took a bite of the chocolate chip walnut tart and she had to admit, even with a bite, she could taste all the ingredients used melting in . Sunggyu was eating in silence and he had no amused expression like Kyungri since he went there often.

“I guess I must thank you,” Kyungri spoke as she looked at him.

Sunggyu; who was chewing on his cheese croissant immediately turned to look at Kyungri since he realised she was saying something earlier but he couldn’t catch up, “What?”

“Thank you,” the girl thanked him with a smile.

Sunggyu was confused for a second, “Why thank me?”

“You don’t remember what you told me earlier?” Kyungri raised an eyebrow in amusement. It was funny that Sunggyu couldn’t remember what he just told her a few minutes ago.

Sunggyu thought hard about it. A smile lit up his face when he finally remembered what it was about, “You’re welcome,” as he continued, “What are you planning to do on this break, other than reading?”

“I don’t really have a plan yet. Maybe I’ll go back to my hometown or I’ll just wait for new semester to start,” Kyungri shrugged. She didn’t really have anything in mind and usually, she’ll come up with a last minute plan.

“Visiting your family in hometown? Where’s your hometown anyway?” Sunggyu asked; his hand reached for the potato bun in his plate.

“It’s Deokjin-dong, Jeonju,” Kyungri curtly replied.

Sunggyu looked shocked for awhile but he managed to remain composed, “Really? I have a friend from there! I wonder if you know her. But she’s still a high school student so you probably don’t know her.”

Maybe he’s referring to Hyesun. “Is that so? What’s her name? I might know her because I know loads of people in my neighbourhood,” it wasn’t a lie. She really did know most of people living there, even a newborn baby, since her father is an important person there.

“Jeon Hyesun, do you know her? Or at least heard of her?” Sunggyu tried his luck.

Kyungri pretended to look stunned, “Jeon Hyesun? She’s my cousin! You know her? How well do you know her?” she asked even though she already knew the answers.

“She’s a good friend of mine! We’ve known each other for a long time. I believe our first meeting was when she was still new in Seoul. Wait, are you the cousin that she’s living with?” Sunggyu threw another question to the girl.

“Yes, I am,” she replied with a nod.

“What a small world! I’ve never known this but it’s good to know,” the male with small eyes chuckled.

Kyungri faked a chuckle, “Yeah, it’s quite shocking,” only if you know I’ve known this for a long time, I wonder if you’ll change your thoughts about me.

Kyungri and Sunggyu are now standing next to Kyungri’s parked car. The male was the first one to speak, “Thank you for accompanying me for breakfast. I hope I didn’t take too much of your time.”

“My pleasure. No, it’s really okay. It’s not like I have anything to do. By the way, it’s so nice to have a chat with you. I got to find out that you’re actually quite an out-going person and not as cold as how I always saw you,” Kyungri chuckled at the end of her sentence.

Sunggyu also cackled, “Really? Do I give out a cold vibe to everyone?”

“Kind of? But don’t worry, you’re actually not,” the girl assured him.

“That’s what I hope. One thing, I found it funny that we didn’t really talk before—oh well did we ever speak to each other at all?” he laughed before prolonging, “and today we talk like we know each other for quite some time now when all we did before were acknowledging each other’s existence and that’s it.”

“You’re right about that. Maybe we should,” Kyungri paused, “become friends after this?” please say yes please say yes please!

“We totally should! Can I have your phone number? So we can contact each other like friends?” Sunggyu courteously asked for her phone number.

Everyone, did you hear that?! Kim Sunggyu just asked me for my phone number!!! Once again, Kyungri felt like she was flying across the rainbow and clouds; and this time around, she had wings to fly by herself. “S-sure,” she took out her phone from her handbag.

After exchanging phone numbers, it was time to put a stop, “Thank you again for your time today, Kyungri. We should contact each other often and I guess I’ll see you soon?”

The girl nodded. Even though she was sad that this precious time had to come to an end, she knew there would be another meeting so she wasn’t that unhappy, “Thanks to you too for the yummy breakfast. Yeah, let’s see each other soon?”

Sunggyu nodded, “Goodbye, Kyungri,” he sent one last smile to the girl.

This feels like a break-up. She exaggerated in mind, “Goodbye, Sunggyu,” she waved at him before getting into her car and watching Sunggyu walked to his bicycle. He told her he lived around there so he had no problem cycling.

Once his walking figure was no longer seen, Kyungri leaned back to the seat with a happy sigh. Her lips formed a wide smile and she put her palms on her cheeks. It’s hard to believe such day actually happened to me. Nevertheless, it’s all real! This isn’t a dream and it’s really happening! After all the waits, you deserve this, Park Kyungri! Approaching Kim Sunggyu- done! Maybe seducing him should be next? Err....

As you can see it's a Kyungri-Sunggyu special chapter :) I figure out that our Kyungri should have some spotlight too, shouldn't her?

On an important note, I'll be deleting chapter 2 because I'll put it together with chapter 1(I realised that my chapter 1 doesn't have much revelation and too short for a first chapter). So on my next update, the updated chapter will be chapter 17 and this current chapter 17 will be chapter 16. Do you get it? You can ask me if you don't get it. I'll try my best to explain (:

Like this story? Give it an Upvote!
Thank you!
