Phantom Crimes [DISCONTINUED]

This never happened in his life before. Kyungsoo’s friend, who was one year older than him got kidnapped. Why? Why is this happening? Baekhyun isn’t the type that made people have a grudge on him! He’s a news reporter, quite famous too. It’s not a surprise that he has his own fanclub. The girls loved him because of his adorable face, which made Kyungsoo’s heart ache even more by looking at his friend’s condition.

Chanyeol was traumatized by all this. It’s hard for him to swallow. He stated that Baekhyun was kidnapped right in front of his eyes. They were at the parking lot and a group of masked people with weapons came out from nowhere, captured the poor guy before shoving him into a van. The incident was reported directly to the Chief Police but he suggested not publishing to the media until the van is found.

Kyungsoo, Jongdae, Junmyeon, Chanyeol and Sehun were gathered in the Psychologist’s Office. Junmyeon tried his best to console the traumatized giant, because he’s best at doing it. Sehun remained by his side. Jongdae didn’t stop walking back and forth around the office, almost biting his thumb nail out of his usual habit of worrying. Kyungsoo could only watch all of them. He did nothing but hope.

Hoping that Kim Jongin could track the van as soon as possible.

“Please hurry, Jongin.” Kyungsoo mumbled as he stared at the window.

The angel kept appearing and disappearing on certain locations as he tracked down the van from the parking lot. Thanks to his ability, he’s able to track it in short time. He kept following the tire tracks through every corner until he stopped at the back of an empty warehouse. His eyes rose a bit when he saw the said van before he popped out right next to it.

The van, was sadly empty. Only leaving few clues such as the beads of an amulet scattered all over the van. Jongin bit his lower lip, knowing the amulet beads belonged to Baekhyun. He must have snapped it during his struggle against the kidnappers. Jongin searched inside the van without touching anything, until he saw a note stuck on the wiper. He tried to read it but he couldn’t. The words got different and at the end of the word HCF 24 was written.

He immediately poofed himself back into the office, making Kyungsoo jumped.

“Jongin!” Everyone turned sharply to Kyungsoo before taking attention on Kyungsoo’s desk.

The angel grabbed a paper and pen before writing intensively at the desk. People watched the pen move by itself before the paper ‘flew’ to Junmyeon to grab it. He read what’s on the paper and apparently it was an address. He doubted that Jongin wrote to show where he found the van.

“Good job, Kai. I am going to send the search team right away. Sehun, take a good care of Chanyeol. Do not leave the office until I tell you so.” Sehun nodded quickly. “D.O., Chen, let’s move.” Junmyeon instructed and both of them assented at the same time.

Three of them were in the same police car and rushed to the location. Behind them were several police cars from search team which was tailing them. Junmyeon was driving and Jongdae sat quietly in the passenger’s seat. Kyungsoo sat in the middle of the back seat, watching the view in front of him. Just then, Jongin appeared right next to him and spoke.

[“Hyung. Don’t speak, just listen.”]

Kyungsoo hesitated for a moment before he nodded. He wondered why Jongin wanted to talk to him at a time like this.

[“I found a note on the car and it seemed like they was sending us a threat. I can’t read it because of the different . I don’t think it’s in Korean.”]

Kyungsoo blinked for a moment before he nodded. He had to get that note before someone else did.

Once they’re at the location, everyone scattered out to the empty van. Kyungsoo took his opportunity to grab the note at the wiper since everyone was more interested on what’s inside the van. He looked around, making sure no one was watching, he took a glance on the note.

“...It’s in Chinese. I can’t read it too. But what is HCF 24?” Kyungsoo pursed his lips.

[“Should we ask Chen-hyung?”]

“Good idea.” Kyungsoo looked back and made eye contact with his partner.

Luckily, Jongdae saw that and approached. “Got anything?”

“Chen, can you read this?” Kyungsoo showed the note to him and he stared blankly at it.

After a moment, he shook his head. “No, I don’t.”

Kyungsoo found it odd why Jongdae took his time before saying that. Jongdae looked back at Kyungsoo and reminded him.

“But I think this is a clue to find the kidnappers. However, I’m afraid the message might be a threat, we can’t tell anyone.”

“So what should we do?” Kyungsoo asked him.

“No choice to translate by ourselves. I’ll try look up on my phone.” Jongdae took out his cell phone and kept fiddle on it.

Kyungsoo tried to find other way to translate it, but he didn’t know what to do. Unless...

“Kai, is there any Chinese ghost you could communicate? Especially around here?”

[“As far I meet the entities, they’re mostly Korean. Chinese rarely been murdered in Korea. Even if I found one, it’s somewhere else.”]

Kyungsoo sighed. “I can’t just ask people if they can read Chinese. It’s a bad idea.”

After a few minutes of wandering around, Kyungsoo let out a frustrated sigh. He couldn’t find a single clue on how to translate the Chinese words without asking people around him. He was desperate and he looked back at Jongin.

“That’s it. I’m going to ask Suho-hyung straight away.”

[“You can’t do that! What if he found out it’s a threat note?!”]

“Then tell me that you have better idea.” Kyungsoo looked at him with a deadpan face.

[“Uh.... no.”] Jongin rubbed his back head.

“Even I don’t like the idea of telling him, we have no choice. Time is ticking, Kai.”

Just then when was about to approach Junmyeon, he felt a presence. A familiar feeling that he couldn’t shake off. He turned around to find it before Jongin spoke to him.

[“Over there, hyung.”] He pointed at the corner of the warehouse and Kyungsoo immediately approached it.

Kyungsoo was unamused when he found out that ghost was actually the same ghost who told him about twenty days before his death and the criminal on the bus.

“You never got tired of bothering me, don’t you?” Jongin frowned at Kyungsoo’s words and looked at the ghost before he raised his eyebrows.

[“Oh~ So this is the ghost you’re talking about.”]

However, the ghost scowled in return before he spoke. [“I came here because I need to warn you.”]

“Yeah? What is it this time? Telling me that the van has a bomb?” Kyungsoo tried to joke on that but Jongin seemed a little worry if that was true.

[“Worse. I had a bad feeling that someone will get hurt terribly. I don’t know why but you can say I have an instinct.”] The ghost said and Kyungsoo looked serious all of sudden.

“Look. Every time you told me, it has been true. But I don’t trust you when you said it’s an instinct. I got a friend who’s waiting for us to be saved and his close friend is desperate right now. I really don’t have a time to chit-chat, so if you want to tell me straight away, just say it.”

The ghost silence for a moment.

[“... Fine. Show me the note. I'll translate for you.”]

Kyungsoo blinked at the ghost. He didn’t expect someone like him could read Chinese. But looking at the face, he does look like a Chinese person. Kyungsoo showed the note to him and he looked at it.

[“You’re not going to like it. It says, ‘Bring the hidden Kim, or else he will be killed. HCF 24’.”]

Kyungsoo and Jongin widened their eyes. “The hidden Kim? What did they mean by that?!”

[“You will never know because it’s between him and them. Your partner was involved with this case a long time ago. It was an old case too.”]

“Old case? Wait a minute. The hidden Kim... It couldn’t be.” Kyungsoo quickly left him and ran back where he left Jongdae.

Jongdae was nowhere been found.

The hidden Kim they meant was Kim Jongdae. He could relate with his chief, Kim Junmyeon, but he didn’t know Chinese. Kyungsoo closed his eyes, realizing he made a huge mistake.

“Chen had been in China for seven years, of course he can read Chinese! Damn it, I’m so stupid! I still have to figure out about the HCF 24--”

[“You don’t have to, D.O.-hyung. I have an idea. Give me five minutes.”]

Kyungsoo was about to stop him but he disappeared fast. Jongin reappeared at their office and he locked his eyes on his old de

Chapter 33: It's okay, it's a little let down that we don't get to figure out all the mystery and see how your story ends, but I completely understand and respect your decision. It's not an easy plot and there's no fun in trying to force yourself to finish something when you feel that you can't. And with your busy schedule it's best that you stick with what you can handle and want to do. Good luck with it all.

Chapter 31: Oh I really loved this chapter and it so well written. As a throw back to their college years I think it was great how you managed to integrate all of the characters in the same time. We've got Jongin talking with Jongdae, Junmyeon texting Yifan, Jongdae with Minseok and Luhan, all of them mourning for Tao, which is really sad but goes so well with the melancholy of Christmas eve. Because it's during festivities like these that one thinks of family and the close ones we love, and in this case it also means death because of the 'Christmas Killer'.
And we also get to see Yixing as well, who seems to have received a report of a another victim of Reindeer.
It really is a great chapter, I love the tone it's written in. I really enjoyed it because it gives a insight of the dynamics of how things were before Kyungsoo, Jongin, Baekhyun and Chanyeol got involved in the Phantom crimes.
Thanks and Happy Holidays!
