The Goodbye
Behind the Mask [Bangtan]Mallory’s phone buzzed beside her, and she opened her eyes. She had woken up much earlier that morning and had prepared to go see Zhen only to find that it was only two in the morning. Her nerves were getting the better of her. She hadn’t reached for her phone quick enough, which was clear as Yoongi’s arm wrapped around her waist and he pressed his lips to her neck. “Turn it off,” He said flatly.
Mallory’s hand shot out and she grabbed the phone. She pulled it up to see it was Zhen and decided not to ignore it. “You’re not leaving for another few hours.” She said tiredly.
“Please, please, please tell me that you used some kind of protection.”
Yoongi groaned, unraveling himself from Mallory and burying his head under the pillow. “Does she have to be so loud?”
“What are you talking about?” Mallory asked, sliding off the bed and hurrying out onto the balcony. It was a little brisk out, but otherwise, surprisingly warm.
Zhen sighed on the other end. “I had a dream about your chestnut.”
Mallory laughed. “You’re delusional. I think you need to get some sleep before your flight, and I need to get some sleep before I pass out from exhaustion.” She said, not even waiting for Zhen’s reply before ending the call. She then turned and moved back into her bedroom. Yoongi was sitting up, watching her. “Sorry.”
“What was that all about?” He asked, continuing to watch her as she moved the blankets and climbed back into bed. As she did this, he wrapped one arm around her waist and pulled her to him.
She sighed and pressed herself to his chest as he lay back down, holding her against him still. “Something about protection, and a dream about a chestnut.”
Yoongi immediately started laughing. “She had a dream that you were pregnant.”
“What?” Mallory asked, shooting up.
He shrugged. “She had a dream you were pregnant. That’s what the chestnut means.”
Mallory made a face. “I haven’t even talked to her about-”
Yoongi shook his head. “It’s just a dream.”
Mallory sighed. “I mean, if you say so, but that’s kinda scary.” She said, turning towards him. “We should probably get up and start getting ready. She’s going to be catching her flight soon.”
Jungkook was practically shaking as he walked up towards the Shin house. Dae Hyun was already loading Zhen’s bags into the back of the car, his eyes red rimmed and his face pasty white.
“She’s inside,” Was the only thing he said. Jungkook nodded and thanked him, moving past the car and into the garage, using that door to get into the house. He turned the corner into the dining room and found Zhen and Cho Hee sitting at the table. Zhen was holding Cho Hee’s hand and Cho Hee was wiping tears away from her eyes.
“Good morning Jungkook.” Cho Hee said lightly. “We’re just about to get going.”
Jungkook nodded and Zhen let go of Cho Hee’s hand. She stood and started towards Jungkook. “Did you sleep alright?”
“Did you?” He asked as she moved towards him, pressing herself against him and wrapping her arms around his torso. He couldn’t find the strength to hug her back. He didn’t want to say goodbye, and this felt like a goodbye.
She released him and looked up. “As good as one can sleep when having strange chestnut dreams.”
Jungkook’s mouth twitched into a smile. “I’m not going to ask.” He said, shaking his head. Kirakira, who was late to the morning clearly as she was still yawning and stretching on her front legs, moved towards Jungkook and sat on his feet. “Do you think she’ll do alright on the plane?”
Zhen frowned. “Actually, I’m leaving Kirakira here. Cho Hee has really grown attached to her, and she’s been moving around too often, I don’t want her to get sick from all the change and all.” She said, bending and petting the dog’s head. “But I’ll be back to see her frequently.” Kirakira let out a whine, as if she was aware of the fact that her owner was moving on and leaving her behind.
The door opened and Dae Hyun moved into the house. “Are you ready?” He asked. “All the bags are in the car.”
Zhen nodded. “Yes sir,” She said, turning to Cho Hee, who was wipi
