Zhen stood in the waiting room with her phone pressed to her cheek, pacing back and forth. She’d asked the officer who had asked her the questions about Mallory if she could have Mallory’s parents’ number from the phone, which he’d gotten from the police station. She had called Jaspar while she waited from Mallory’s parents’ number, but he hadn’t answered.

So now she was pacing in the waiting room, praying to god that Mallory’s parents would pick up.

They didn’t. So Zhen was forced to leave a message. Using the best English she could she said “Hello Mr. and Mrs. LeBlanc. I am Zhen Ai, Mallory’s friend. I am calling because there has been an accident and Mallory is in the hospital. She’s currently in the Asian Medical Center, and I cannot get a hold of Jaspar. Please call back.” She ended the call and turned to look at Jungkook, who gave her a polite, but clearly uncomfortable, smile. “That was awkward.” She said, sitting beside him.

Mallory had been taken back into surgery, and Zhen and Suga had been cleared out of the room because her room was being moved to another wing. So now Zhen was pacing, waiting for them to bring her to Mallory’s new room.

The doors to the wing opened, and Cho Hee hurried in. She spotted Zhen in an instant and hurried over to her, pulling her into a hug. “Oh Zhen, I’m so sorry!” She said, squeezing her tightly.

“She’s in her second surgery,” Zhen said, surprisingly calm. “But I’m allowed to see her after.”

Cho Hee nodded. “Are you staying the night.”

Zhen bit her lip. This one hurt. “I’m not allowed to.” She wasn’t an immediate relative, nor was she in a relationship with Mallory, so she was only allowed to see her during the day. When it hit six thirty, she was going to be asked to leave. Suga, however, was staying the night, and promised to keep Zhen updated. She’d wanted to say that they weren’t actually dating, that he shouldn’t be allowed to stay when she could, but that wouldn’t solve anything. “Will you bring me back tomorrow-”

“Of course! I’ll bring you as early as you need,” She said, looking to Jungkook. “Will you need a ride home?” He nodded. “Okay. I’ll wait in the lounge.”

“Lounge?” Jungkook asked.

Zhen nodded. “Dae Hyun is a surgeon, and when he’s on call, he and Cho Hee meet in the lounge for dinner.” She looked to Cho Hee. “Is Dae Hyun on call right now?”

“He’s in the middle of a surgery.” Zhen hoped it was Mallory’s. Dae Hyun was a renowned as a surgeon, but he was a brain surgeon, so there was no telling if he could  be with Mallory or not. “I’ll talk to him about it when he gets out, don’t worry.” She said, hugging Zhen again. “Just please keep calm.”

Ha-Neul was looking over at Zhen, but he was turned towards Jun Hyun. “I didn’t realize that you and Mallory knew her,” He said lightly, turning back to Jun Hyun. Jun Hyun shrugged. “God, she looks so pale.”

“You would to, if it was someone you were close to, jagiya.” Jun Hyun offered, leaning back against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest.

Ha-Neul’s head snapped in Jun Hyun’s direction. “I’m not a twelve year old girl. Calling me jagiya isn’t going to get you anywhere, baboya.”

Jun Hyun smirked. “But I need a cute nickname for you, since you have one for me.” He reached out and toyed with one of the buttons of Ha-Neul’s shirt. Ha-Neul swatted his hand away. “Feel free to give me a Chinese one. That’d be cute.” 
 

“Shut up,” Ha-Neul muttered, looking back over at Zhen. “I want to go over there but… I feel like I’d be stepping on Jungkook’s toes.” Jun Hyun shrugged. “I mean, look at them,” He said, gesturing to Zhen and Jungkook. Zhen sat beside Jungkook, holding one of his hands in both of hers. She’d rested her head against his shoulder, and he was brushing his fingers over her cheek. “They’re so cute, and I don’t want him to feel uncomfortable, since she kind of attaches herself to me every time I walk over there.”

Jun Hyun laughed. “It’s not like you’re into her like that.”

“Obviously,” Ha-Neul rolled his eyes. “But it doesn’t matter. I’m some random man from Zhen’s past-”

“That sounds dirty, jagiya.” Ha-Neul glared at Jun Hyun. “Jungkook’s nice. Just walk over there and start up a conversation. Jeez, I’ve never seen you this uptight.” He said, poking Ha-Neul’s side. “Go on! Go say something. She was so happy to see you earlier-”

“She was bawling.”

“Not because of you though. She was happy, trust me.”

“Ms. An and Mr. Min?” A voice called, and Zhen, who had been falling asleep on Jungkook’s shoulder, shot up. She spotted a nurse at the end of the hall. “If you’ll follow me, I’ll show you to Mallory’s room.” Suga was across the room and at the nurses side before Zhen could take a step.

The two followed close behind the woman as she led them to Mallory’s room. “Please keep in mind that she’s still in a medicine induced coma. She’s not going to be awake for some time. But she’s a fighter. I’ve seen kids come in here with less that pass away at the first count. She’s lucky.”
