The Apartment
Behind the Mask [Bangtan]Mallory had called Zhen and asked her to meet them at the parking lot. She relayed the message after the boys came back from their race, and J-Hope collected his cookie. Jin summed it up to V pushing Jin down, and tripping himself in the process, which made the rest of the group laugh.
They collected their things and started back towards the parking lot, where the van was already started and ready to go. Everyone filed in, Jungkook, Zhen, J-Hope and V cramming themselves into the back, Rap Monster Jimin and Jin in the second row, and Suga up front with Mallory. When Zhen asked about lunch, Mallory told her she went to see her uncle, and Zhen asked no more questions. She knew what she meant.
“Your uncle owns a restaurant?” V asked.
Mallory shook her head. “No, he’s just the head chef at the Top Cloud Cafe and Grill.” She shrugged. “Which I’m thankful for.”
Zhen turned towards Jungkook. “She only eats organic, pesticide free, cage free and all that kind of specific.” She whispered, though Mallory narrowed her eyes at her in the rearview mirror.
Jungkook made a face. “Why?”
“For one, it’s healthier,” Zhen said, sitting back. “And this way she knows exactly what’s going into her body. It’s really hard to find restaurants that she’ll eat it, which is most of the reason that she doesn’t go out much.” She began to fiddle with her camera again. “She actually personally goes to farms to pick out her food for the month. This butcher takes care of everything for her, she just has to walk through and pick the healthiest animal she wants, how many eggs and things like that she’ll need, and whether or not they should trim the fat.”
Jungkook’s brow furrowed. “How does she know the animals are being fed properly? I mean, for how she likes them. And how does she know they’re cage free?”
Zhen shrugged. “She worked there for a summer. She knows, trust me.” She smiled.
Jungkook leaned towards her. She felt the urge to pull away until he said “Can I see the pictures you took?”
She hadn’t taken out the SD card with Jin and his girlfriend on it. “Uh,” She said, fiddling the compartment for the SD card open. “It’s actually dead, but I can show them to you next time.” Terrible excuse, but she didn’t want to blow Jin’s secret out of the water just yet.
Jungkook raised an eyebrow suspiciously, but smirked. “Sure.”
“Do you want me to drop you guys off at the building or are you coming back to the apartment?” Mallory asked abruptly.
Rap Monster turned to Jungkook. “It’s all up to you. After all, we’re here for your project.”
Jungkook nodded. “If we go back to the apartment, we can get started on the actual project, setting up the sequence and the information. Really, it’s up to Zhen Ai. Do you want to keep working on the project?”
Zhen looked towards Mallory, who nodded in the rearview mirror. “I guess we can work out the slides of the palace today.” She said, offering a weak smile. That kind of killed her I’ll-show-you-the-pictures-next-time plan, but this way they could get most of the project out of the way. Mallory veered the van into the parking garage, and as the others opened the door and began to climb out, Zhen tugged the SD card out of the camera and replaced it with the one of the pictures from the palace.
“Coming?” Jungkook asked, pulling the bag with her other camera equipment out of the van and onto his shoulder. Zhen nodded and slid out of the van, closing the door behind her.
Mallory walked around the van and to Zhen’s side. “How did the picture taking go?” She asked, leaning into her friend’s side.
Zhen shrugged. “It was alright. I got everything we needed, so we’re going to be able to finish the palace portion of our presentation.”
“When is Jae-Sun stopping by to help out?”
Zhen made a face. “He isn’t.” Mallory raised a questioning eyebrow. “He directed Jungkook and I to do specific details for the assignment, which he declared would be about the school’s uniform. As you can see, we aren’t doing what he asked.”
Mallory made a face. “I would have made the presentation just to make him look like an .”
Zhen turned towards her friend and frowned. “I think you’re rubbing off on me.”
“No way,” Mallory said, retracting her arm around around Zhen’s hip. “You’re freaking me out. School has changed you.” She said, smirking. Zhen laughed lightly and they joined the others in the elevator.
When Mallory unlocked the door, she turned to Zhen and said “I’ll let the dogs out.”
“Dogs?” Jin asked.
Mallory nodded. “We both have one.” She moved into the apartment and took off her shoes, carrying them with her towards her room.
