Chapter 4
Imagine You, Imagine Me.“Kris, this is Jake. Jake, this is Kris.” I said and they exchanged hands. “Have fun, Lena” Jake managed to say.
I walked next to Kris and glanced over him. “I’m sorry” He said again.
“Stop that. Stop saying I’m sorry.” I hit him on the shoulders. “Give me my brunch!” I took out my hand, teasing him.
“I’m sorry, Len.” Again.
“Seriously Kris, I will hit your head if you say that again. Let it go.” I’m tired of hearing I’m sorry, I wanted him to explain to me who Jane was. That’s what I wanted. “Who’s Jane?” I asked.
“She’s a friend.” Kris stated.
“Right, I don’t think so.” I knew he was lying. Jane was someone important to him but he wasn’t willing to admit it. “How did you meet her?”
“I meet her from school.” He confessed and enveloped me into a side hug. I knew I should have pushed him but this was why I came here in the first place.
“She’s doing the same course as you?” I asked again.
“Yeah” He nodded, I nodded as well; “That’s great, I’m glad you found someone here.” I said
“I don’t think she likes me Len. We’re just good friends.” He stated. I shrug.
“I don’t think so. I think she likes you, I mean, come on, why would she went along with you last night?”
“Yeah, you think so?” He finally admitted.
“I know so.” It’s not hard to see when a girl falls for Kris. It’s not difficult to see. Kris, you should know any girl would fall in love with you, including me. “So, where exactly are we going?” I asked as we were still walking.
“Lunch, I’m bringing you out for lunch.” He finally let me go. I looked around to see any restaurant but all I see was buildings and parks. “It’s a few blocks away; you don’t mind walking right, Len? I know you love walking” He explained.
I nodded and smiled towards him. “Are we eating at that favourite place of yours?” He nodded, every time I asked him about his lunch or dinner, he always tend to reply with the same name.
“They have the best lasagne and I tried their Aglio Olio as well, you would love it.” Aglio Olio was my favourite pasta. I even manage to learn how to make it myself.
We finally arrived at the restaurant, I realised why he love the place. It’s his type of place, quiet, with little amount of people. The decorations were his taste as well, cosy, homey. He ordered two Aglio Olio, one with prawn and the other with beef rashers.
“How’s Singapore doing for you?” I finally had the courage to ask afraid that I wouldn’t like the answer. To be honest I don’t know what I was so afraid of.
“It’s great Len. You should come often. I’m loving the environment.” He beamed.
“The people as well” I teased. All he did was smile and I was happy. I’m glad he is okay even though I miss seeing this everyday but I’m glad someone is making him happy here.
“How’s home?” He asked.
“Same old-same old” other than missing you badly, everything was normal. Other than you weren’t home, everything else was normal.
I don’t know what went wrong between us two. I don’t know whether I didn’t make it clear to him before. Maybe I didn’t show it to him; maybe I was too big of a coward while giving out hints about my feelings. Maybe I was afraid of ruining our friendship. Maybe, maybe, maybe. I’ve known Kris for four years now, ever since he transferred school to ours, I’ve always liked him. I never told him frankly about my feelings but I gave out hints. I gave out hints.
“I’m so glad you are here Len.” Kris suddenly said out of the blues. I manage to hide my happiness.
“I’m glad I came over too” I agreed.
“Do you want to go anywhere after this?” Kris asked and our food was served.
I took the fork out and shrug my shoulders. “I have no idea; do you want to go anywhere?” Kris immediately lit up.
“I know where we should go.” Kris had an idea. “I was right, was I?” When Kris saw me enthusiastically ate another spoonful of the food.
“Yes, you were right.” I laughed with him. He knew me too well. “Now, I need to figure out what mine lack out!” I said.
“Hey, your Aglio Olio is still the best for me.” Kris gave me a two thumbs up.
“You are just saying that to make me feel better.” I made Kris try mine a few months before he flew off. I was excited to let him try the food and he told me about his plans, his plans to Singapore.
