The Choice
Junhee looked up from her breakfast as her older cousin walked in the dining room.
“Oppa?”
“Hm?”
“I heard Hyemi unnie placed a red card on you too.” She grinned. Himchan ignored her statement as she picked up a slice of bread.
“So have you adjusted with the school yet? No one’s disturbing you?” He asked.
Junhee made a face.
“The moment they found out I was your cousin, they wouldn’t even dare to talk to me, Kim Himchan.”
Himchan grinned at her as he started to eat.
“But, you and Lay, there’s nothing going on-”
“Please, not at this early hour.”
“I was just asking.”
“Oppa, Lay and I practically grew up together, he’s like a brother to me.” Junhee sighed.
Himchan just smiled at her.
“Got it.”
Hyemi walked in the school’s vast grounds with her earphones plugged on her ears. Then she noticed most of the studetns would stop talking and stare at her.
She blinked.
“What is happening?” She murmured to herself as she tried to make a beeline to the lobby’s entrance. She winced as she heard people mention her name as well as F4. She was about to climb the marble steps when she lost her footing and almost tripped.
“What’s the rush?” A deep voice asked, the murmurs in the background died down immediately.
Hyemi stared at the hand on her elbow that steadied her and looked up.
“I have class.” She murmured. Himchan nodded and let go of her.
“Go ahead.”
Hyemi looked at him.
“Sunbae, about yesterday, thank you.”
A small but smug smile formed on Himchan’s lips.
“Go to class.” As he gave her a gentle push to the doors.
Daehyun grinned as they approached his friend. Himchanwas standing by the steps watching Hyemi walk along the building’s halls.
“Who knew that you were a helping hand?” Daehyun said as he walked ahead of his friend. Kai chuckled.
“I sense a brewing love story.” He taunted, Himchan narrowed his eyes at them and followed. Chunji grinned and nudged their leader.
Then Daehyun looked around.
“But, where’s your dongsaeng?”
Himchan blinked.
“We had breakfast earlier, I think she left earlier than me.”
Chunji’s brows furrowed at the mention of Junhee, but he looked away.
Junhee smiled lightly as she placed the boquet of flowers on the ground. She was at her parents’ burial site.
“Eomma, appa, Junhee’s here.” She said as she clasped her hands together.
“I have been doing well and I decided to finish my studies here. Isnt that nice?”
“And, I think a lot of things changed since I left, eomma. Appa you would be happy to hear this, I...I will help Himchan oppa with the business after graduation.” She felt her eyes water.
“Please watch over me.”
Hyemi placed her food tray down, Yejin was at the library studying for her quiz, so she was left alone. Then she remembered Junhee.
“Is she absent?” Hyemi looked around, waiting for a familiar brunette to approach her. She got used to how Junhee would just approach her at any time of the day.
“She is, and like she arranged, join us at our table.” Kai appeared before her.
“It’s okay, sunbae. I can eat here.” Hyemi smiled, she felt the gazes being directed at her again.
Kai just shook his head at her and grabbed her tray.
“Just eat with us, Hyemi.” He smiled at her. Hyemi bit her lip.
“We dont bite.”
