"....wait for me"
No Chance to Grow
it's almost 1 am in the morning yet people were busy eating, walking around, and goofying around. the crowd seemed never end considering it's a weekend.
not far from there, there were 3 people who gathered yet didn't seem enjoy each other presence. one of the boy, with blonde hair, looking intimidating. he stood there with arms crossed, looking at the others: one girl with long straight hair and the other boy with black-fluffy hair.
In one glimpse, you could say that the blonde one was scolding his siblings because strangely, they looked similar.
back to the case.
taemin looked unhappy with two people in front of him. after minutes passed, none of them answered his questions. he looked at them back and forth yet the youngers remained silent.
"What happened between you two?" he asked another question.
"We're okay."
"We're fine."
"Liar." Taemin cut off. "you can't fool me."
"really, oppa. we're fine. we don't fight! I swear!" soojung managed to look at his eyes. Taemin studied it, finding that his girlfriend was telling the truth.
But he's still suspicious.
"she's right." Jongin finally opened his mouth. "We don't fight."
"See??" soojung nodded in agreement. "Now can we leave? i'm kinda tired, oppa." Soojung said.
taemin squinted. He still found it weird. "Both of you won't go anywhere until you tell me what's going on."
"we don't fight!" Soojung groaned in frustration.
"I know. Beside that." He looked at them with a weird look. "You guys don't fight but you sure act like one."
"What?" Jongin blinked, looking at taemin as innocent as possible as taemin tried to read his expeession. Taemin knew, jongin was never be a good liar.
and so was soojung.
"If nothing's wrong with you guys, why did you act weird?" He asked.
"Weird?" Jongin frowned. deep inside, he prayed silently so that taemin wouldn't find out about their "little" issue.
"Yeah. like now." Taemin nodded, pointing at both of them. "you sit like both of you don't know each other."
"oh? We don't realize." Soojung defended, trying to sound casual.
"No, jungie. That's not how it works." Taemin shook his head. "Lemme show you how it works. Move a side."
Taemin sat between them and pointed at something far from them. "Normally, when you see jongin from that distance.." He paused "you'd exclaim happily and cry his name. Jonginaaaaaa" he imitated soojung's voice and failed miserably, making jongin and soojung couldn't help but crack a smile.
"Okay, sorry for the bad immitation." He cough, hiding his embarassment. "Back to topic."
soojung gulped. she didn't want him to find out more than this. She mentally slapped herself for not knowing that taemin wasn't that ignorant. he did pay attention to what she had done.
"And normally, when jongin had stood here." Taemin stood up and faced both of them. "Both of you would wave like excited teenagers. Saying hi" he waved vigorously like excited teenagers, making them burst into laughter.
"That's gross. you look like a gay." Jongin commented.
"Shut up." Taemin glared at him. "I'm talking."
"Sorry." Jongin hid his laughter by pressing his palm in front of his mouth.
"And the next step.." Taemin paused, going back to his previous seat. "Jungie would start to shake you violently like this." taemin shook jongin's arm. "Jonginaaaa~" he immitated her.
"oh i need a bucket to puke." Jongin murmured, loud enough for soojung to hear. She started to chuckle, making jongin turned to her. for seconds, they stared each other before bursting into laughter.
"Oppa! I don't talk like that!" Soojung defended herself in the middle of her laughter. "You silly!"
"hey i'm showing you what i've seen!" He clicked his tongue, pretending to be mad because of them. Deep inside, he felt happy because he managed to break the tension between them.
"you scared me." Jongin shrugged. "I never know you're that kind of person."
"Yah!" taemin punched jongin's arm, making the younger replied it with the punch too.
"Don't punch me!" He said, then both of them started to punch each other jokingly.
"kids.." Soojung snorted, shaking her head with amused look in her eyes. she could feel that the tension between her and jongin had broken little by little, thanks to taemin.
i wonder if he still does it after knowing the reason. soojung thought.
"I'm tired." Taemin slumped on the bench, panting after wrestling around with jongin.
"Ditto." Jongin nodded, trying to catch his breath. they had similar power, so it's quite hard to defeat each other.
soojung just shook her head, saying nothing upon seeing those boys. she stayed on her position with the eyes locked on them.
taemin stole a glance to soojung and jongin, finding that both of them did the same thing.
'They're still awkward.' Taemin thought. he clicked his tongue and quickly stood up, wanting to fix everything between them.
"Ah..i'm thirsty." Taemin exaggerated things by touching his throat and making a face.
soojung took her glass of juice. "I still have my j--"
"N-no i don't want juice." Taemin cut off. "I wanna drink a mineral water."
"Ah i have it." Jongin took the small bottle from his pocket, handing it to taemin.
"Ah i actually forget that i don't want a mineral water." He quickly changed it. "I think i want a cup of tea."
"tea?" Soojung and jongin said at the same time, making them quite surprise.
"Yeah tea. umm..since both of you have those but i don't, so i'll go buy it and you guys stay here. okay? be good, i'll be back!!" he talked so fast before waving vigorously and running away from them, leaving soojung and jongin dumbfounded before they could say something.
"O-oppa!!" Soojung called his name but taemin didn't hear it. She pouted then sighed, knowing that taemin must be up for something. it's fishy.
"If you want to go back, you can go back now. i'm okay." Soojung said without seeing jongin properly.
"It's not good to leave a girl outside, alone. i'll wait until taemin come back." He shook his head, rejecting soojung's idea.
"I'm not weak." Soojung insisted. to be honest, she felt weird and uncomfortable around him since that day. she knew the tension between them had broken a bit, thanks to taemin. But still, it's never enough.
"i can stay there, so you can't really see me and be more comfortable yet i can see you and make sure that nothing happen." Jongin stood up and started walking away from her. jongin knew soojung very well, so he got what she meant.
soojung really wanted to say something but her tongue stuck just like that. she really wanted to ask jongin to stay yet she didn't feel comfortable. she wanted to say she missed him yet she didn't even know how to say hi properly. Everything was messed up and so were they.
she missed her best friend so much but she didn't know what to do. she wanted him back in her life even though she knew he'd never go. But it felt like one.
soojung decided to make up with him and initiated to act normal for their own goodness. she should get rid the uncomfortable feelings and talked to him instead of avoiding him,
"jongin-ah.." Soojung called him with hoarse voice, trying hard to say the name. it's been a while since the last time she said that.
one of her most favorite words.
jongin turned back, looking at her while frowning. "What?"
"sing for me." she casually said as if nothing happened.
jongin blinked confusedly. "What?"
"Sing for me." she nodded slightly.
"are you losing your mind?" Jongin asked her, questioning her weird behavior. is she possesed or something? jongin thought.
"Maybe." soojung admitted "everything's messed up lately, making me lose my sanity."
jongin stopped walking away and approached her instead. he couldn't help but agree about 'losing the sanity' part since he, himself, lost his sanity too.
he walked towards her, studying her expression and trying to guess what did she want.
In other side, soojung looked into his eyes and never broke the eye-contact. her gaze followed his direction and she denied her uncomfortable feelings and did that.
when jongin finally stopped in front of her, they stayed just like that for a while. none of them broke the eye contact or said something. none of them were sure what would happen next.
"So.." Jongin started. "We messed up a lot, huh?"
"yes." Soojung nodded.
"do you want to fix it?" Jongin asked.
"I'd really love to."
"are you serious? do you want to try?"
soojung sighed. "Jongin-ah.." She paused. "I'll try my best to fix everything because i value our friendship."
jongin remained silent. he closed his eyes for a moment before staring at her again. "Do you even know where to start?"
soojung bit her lower lips. to be honest, she didn't know the answer.
"I don't wanna break our bond. you're the closest thing i have, one of the most precious person i really cherish. i don't want to lose you, jongin. i miss you.." She finally managed to say it.
"soojung.." Jongin huffed. he held her hand and squeezed it. "if you want to fix it, you can't.."
"Why?" She tilted her head.
"Because it's not the thing between us.." Jongin paused "it's me who make it happened."
"I--"
"Soojung.." He her hair gently, looking at her closely. "you can't try to fix me. let the time do the job, okay? only time who can heal my pain and fix this thing. give me some times and i promise you things would be okay....sooner or later."
"is it my fault?" Soojung asked, her chest felt heavy and hurt.
"I won't say no or yes." Jongin smiled weakly. "i'm really sorry but if you want to fix it, wait for me. i'll get rid of this feeling so i won't be a burden anymore."
"Jongin-ah.." Soojung was speechless. Her hand touched jongin's hand and stayed there.
"wait for me, okay? after that, we can be close like we used to without uncomfortable feeling because we're really best friend." He paused "no hidden feelings anymore."
soojung shook her head frantically. she didn't want to do this yet she knew she had no choice.
"Just wait for a while. it won't take long.." He whispered, squeezing her shoulders while smiling. "that summer, i promised you we'll be friends forever. and i won't break that promise."
tears started rolling down on her cheeks. she cried in silence.
"S-soojung-ah??" Jongin was taken aback upon seeing her respond "did i say something wrong?"
soojung shook her head. "Can't you stay? i don't wanna lose you.." She sobbed.
jongin sat beside her and pulled her in tight embrace. "soojung-ah..i won't leave you. i promise. but please give me-give us time to fix it. okay?" He her back and buried his face in her hair.
jongin loosened his embrace and looked at her. "Wait for me, chingu." he smiled before planting a butterfly kiss on her temple. "I'll be back soon."
not far from there, taemin watched them behind the nearest stall with a cup of tea in his hand. his expression was unreadable and he locked his eyes on them.
"So, it's true.." He said with no emotion in his voice.
i think i'll finish it before next week since i'm afraid i wouldn't have time due to college stuff
