Junhyung tried to push what Doojoon said as nonsense but he himself could not stop thinking about it. I’m just overthinking it, he always tells himself. Everything is going to be okay. The surgery will be a success. Its not her time yet.

He went home to be greeted by Hyuna’s warm smile and dinner cooked. She told him to shower up and they had dinner together after. As he was showering, he couldn’t help but think, why does everything seemed normal? Is he dreaming? Junhyung pinched his own arm and winced when he felt the pain. Its real. He’s not dreaming.

Dr Park told Hyuna to stop taking the medication since she was going for the surgery. But she should take one of the painkillers if she feel any pain on the chest.

Both of them were lying on the bed, just waiting to go to sleep. No. Only Junhyung was waiting to go to sleep. Hyuna was pretty much tired from doing housework the whole day and she fell asleep right after her head touches the pillow. She was lying on her side, facing Junhyung and Junhyung turned to his side to face her.

He just looked at her face, her features, admiring every single thing about his beloved wife who was sleeping so soundly. He felt the urge to trace her features with his finger but he was afraid that it might wake her up.

Hyuna, I know its selfish of me but please.. don’t leave me. There’s so many things I want to do with you. I want to see old age with you. I want to spend my whole life with you. I’m willing to give up anything just to be with you. Please don’t leave me. You have no idea how much I need you in my life. If it comes a time when I say don’t need you anymore, believe me that it’s a lie. I don’t think there will come a day that I will say that though.

Junhyung let out a very soft sigh and closed his eyes, hoping that his mind would be more positive the next day.

The next two days Junhyung was more positive. It’s a forced positivity but still, positive. If its really time for Hyuna to go, he don’t want Hyuna to last see him as a negative, stressed up and not to mention, paranoid husband. He want to smile as warmly as her, give her all his love before the surgery.

With a blink of an eye, it was time for Hyuna to go to the hospital for the surgery. They were already at the parking lot of the hospital but Junhyung did not unlock the door. He just stared at the steering wheel infront of him.

“Jun.. what’s wrong?” Hyuna asked, as she tilted her head slightly looking at him.

“Are you sure about this? Baby, you really don’t have to do this. I’m okay with how we are now,” Junhyung said looking deep into her eyes. Hyuna just smiled and nodded. Junhyung bit his lower lip slightly, still hesitating. He sighed and nodded to her.

Junhyung unlocked the car doors and both of them got out. They went to the hospital hand in hand, glad at the same time that there’s no reporters or fans outside since Junhyung did not let out a word about Hyuna going for a surgery. He was still very precautious though; wearing a hoodie along with a pair of shades to hide his identity simply.

Hyuna was being led to a her ward to change to a patient’s robe while Junhyung waited. He tried to calm himself by listening to some songs on his iPod and just breathe in and out deeply. He had cleared all of his schedules for that day since the surgery was going to take be quite long and he wants to be there for her after it was done.

She went out of the bathroom not long after and was told to lie down on the bed.

“Here,” Hyuna said as she handed Junhyung her wedding ring and the necklace that Junhyung gave her when he confessed to her the first time.

“You can’t wear it?” he asked even though he knows about the procedure.

“No.. I would if I could. I even tried asking if it was okay to wear at least the ring. But no..” she pouted.

Junhyung nodded, taking the two precious things from her. “Its okay. You don’t need a lucky charm. Just keep me in your heart.”

Hyuna just smiled and nodded. “You’re always in my mind and heart, Junhyung-ah..”

Hyuna lie down on the bed and waited for the nurse to push her bed to the operating theatre. While the were waiting, Junhyung sat on a chair beside her and just held her hand. None of them said anything. Hyuna just looked at Junhyung and vice versa.

“I love you,” she whispered.

Junhyung bit his lower lip. He doesn’t want to respond. Its as if they were saying their last goodbyes. In the end all he managed was a nod and Hyuna understood. She wasn’t hurt that he didn’t say the same thing back because his silence and the way he held her hand was enough to let her know that he loves her too.

Junhyung got up and kissed her forehead and both her cheeks. His lips ghosted on her forehead as he closed his eyes. He took a deep breath to compose himself and sat back down on the chair. As he looked at Hyuna, all she did was give him a small smile. A smile reassuring him that everything was going to be okay.

The long silence soon came to an end when two nurses went into the ward and told them that the operating theatre was ready. Junhyung was forced to let go of her hand and soon they were separated.

Junhyung sat alone at the waiting area outside the operating theatre. They told Hyerin, Yoseob and Hyuna’s mother about the surgery but Hyuna told them not to come. Her mother was quite hesitant but understood her daughter’s situation of wanting to be alone with her husband. They did stop by her mother’s house a day before the surgery and spent the whole day talking with each other. Her mother was worried too but like Junhyung, she tried to remain positive for Hyuna.

Junhyung kept glancing at the door to the operation theatre as he was listening to his playlist. Music always makes him calmer but this time, it seemed to be quite ineffective. He stopped his songs once in awhile to silently pray for Hyuna’s safety. He felt so helpless that it was the only thing he could do for her right now.

1, 2 hours passed. Junhyung is now just staring at the door, not taking his eyes off it. Few minutes later, the automatic door slide open and Dr Park walked out.

He was looking down, taking off the elastic gloves slowly. Junhyung’s first instincts was to get up and ask the doctor immediately but the doctor’s actions made him put a halt to his instincts. What if it’s bad news? Is he ready? Think positive Junhyung. Think positive.

He got up slowly from the seat that he had been sitting on for the past 2 hours or more and slowly made his way to the doctor. His heart was beating faster than ever. The wait was killing him but now that the time to know the truth is here, it was torturing him even more.

Dr Park looked up and gave him a small smile as his eyes met Junhyung’s. What was that smile supposed to mean? Is it a success? If it’s a success, shouldn’t he be smiling wider? Maybe he’s tired? Junhyung, just go and ask him. Get it over and done with.

Junhyung was walking exceptionally slow to Dr Park that it made the doctor frowned slightly.

“Are you okay Mr Yong?” Dr Park asked, walking to Junhyung instead.

“Huh? Y-yeah. I just.. don’t know if I’m ready to know the results or not,” he replied.

“Ah.. I have to admit, its really one of the most toughest surgery I’ve ever done. The good news is that the tumour is not so big since she took the medications. But it was nearer to her heart than I expected it to be.”

“So.. how is she now?” Junhyung finally asked, looking at the doctor nervously.
