We Are Just Meant To Be

Chapter Forty Two

Filled up with power, JI Yong and Seung Hyun moved together as they brought down their enemy. Seung Hyun paused for a second, his breath heavy as looked at the disaster around him. This was the place that he called home. This was the town that he had grown up in and he was sure that Ji Yong had as well. There was little else that they knew about the world outside of their town. It was where they had met that fateful night, and where they had started their life together as a couple all over again.

It was hard to describe, the feeling of how it was when he was alone and single, to the seamless transition to being bonded, happy, and having a mate all of a sudden. Seung Hyun knew he wanted to keep living here. He knew he wanted to have a full family with Ji Yong here. He wanted their children to grow here. So there was no way that this could be the end. That was why there was a need to protect this land.  

Closing his eyes, he sought out his mate. The red vibrant energy was easy to seek out. Pulling at his own energy, he sent It out to his mate. The sudden jolt of warmth spreading through him made Ji Yong take pause, his hand fiery and buried deep in a creature. He watched as his flames suddenly flared, the thing screamed in such agony that it made his ears press back on his scalp. He watched, as it melted and dissolved finally falling to the ground as nothing but ashes.  

Snatching his hand out quickly, he moved to a safe distance and turned to look at his mate. “Seung Hyun,” he whispered, reaching for him. Seung Hyun smiled softly at him, taking his hand and pulling him into his chest.

“Let’s set them all aflame. I don’t know anybody who has flames as hot as you, love.” Seung Hyun smiled softly at him, taking his hand and pulling him into his chest. Ji Yong blinked at him before smiling back. Okay, he understood. Soaking up his mates energy, he hummed almost like a melody. His eyes slowly opened as he took in the creatures around him, flames flicked and at his fingertips as excitement filled him.

It was like music to Seung Hyuns ears, how his energy danced to caress his mate. He could feel Ji Yong’s flames rise, and travel across the dirt. Ji Yong leaned into him, closing his eyes once more as he guided his flames across the grass, over mounds of dirt and concrete—seeking out their target.

The song that was their energy was soon pierced by the loud screech of the creatures it met.  

They were almost there.

The area around them was familiar, and they knew, just at the break of a few more trees and they would be home! Their breaths were heavy as the came to the edge of their town. Hyuna and Hyun Seung suddenly paused, falling tiredly to their knees as their eyes took in the backs of several other nekos.

What where they doing out here?

Why weren’t they in town trying to kill the creatures? Hyuna herself knew it would be a deadly battle. That was why they had rushed here to help.  

“What…whats going on?” Hyuna asked, but it was Hyun Seung whom pointed back to their town. Towards the reflecting sun, the sudden heat that registered with her. There were flames covering everything with a thick black smoke. The neko’s around them were crying and Hyuna felt her helplessness flare, and all strength left her as she came to the conclusion that all of this was her fault.

“There must be something that we can do, anything,” Hyun Seung found himself ready to try and run in, but Hyuna reached for him holding him back.

“There’s no use going in there, the smoke might just choke you,” they heard a deep voice say to the side of them. Choi Siwon walked over to them, looking them over before looking back towards their crumbling town. “For now all we can do is make sure that everyone has made it out,” he muttered, but they heard him. His eyes were searching as if he knew that there was still someone in the town who had not been able to escape.

“I found them!” Daesung rushed over to Siwon suddenly, nearly tripping as he grabbed the other neko’s arm. “Our parents are this way,” he urged.

Siwon pulled his hand back slightly, not breaking away fron Daesung. “What about Seung Hyun and Ji Yong?” he asked, eager for the news.

Daesung paused, shaking his head but not saying anything. It was enough. Their brothers had not been found. Silently and resigned, Siwon followed him. As soon as he saw his mother, he hugged her, looking over his shoulder at the way that Young Bae, Seugri hugged their mother, while Daesung hugged his kits and mate. Over them was their father, keeping the group together and safe like a real father should, but no matter if he looked around him and his siblings, their father was not someone that they ever had there for them.

That was why he was so protective. Siwon felt the need to always protect all of his siblings, and Dong Wook was there at his corner to help him do that. With his own mate, Hee Chul, and his sibligns finding their own mates Siwon had welcomed them and brought them into his protection as well. To think that someone in his family had been lost, to think he had another brother out there he had never gotten to know and protected---yes, it made him go a little crazy.

He was just sad to realize now that the one in the wrong was him. Ji Yong wasn’t bad, and his family was only and always welcoming. Seung Hyun was fine with them. He should have never tried to break them apart. He was sorry, and he wanted to let Seung Hyun know that as well as that he always had them as family.

That he belonged and he was welcomed. But he might never get to tell him that, and he wasn’t sure if he could forgive himself.

After the smoke had started to thicken and voices of nekos all aroun them began to fill their ears, Seung Hyun created a sphere around them. It kept the fresh air in and the smoke out, but soon he knew there would be no more fresh air, but Ji Yong was still working. His mate was still softly glowing, syphoning energy from him and Seung Hyun found himself sighing.

Even if this would be the end, he was happy and here with Ji Yong, holding him close like he always wanted it to be.

Ji Yong suddenly stopped humming, opening his eyes. They were tired, but happy. Seung Hyun moved his thumbs over the bruises under Ji Yong’s eyes. , even like this he was the most beautiful he had ever seen in his life. He leaned forward, kissing his forehead as Ji Yong closed his eyes once more, humming once again, with renewed strength.

As the day progressed so did concern. It was nearly sundown and soon they would all be left in the dark without being able to go home and everyone was worried.

“What’s going to happen now?” Someone snapped in the crowd that had built around the mayor of their town. “Where are we supposed to go now? Where will we sleep?” the questions kept coming with more and more nekos wanting to know the answer. The mayor did his best to calm them down. After to him this was not a situation he had foreseen.

“Please, everyone for tonight we shall sleep here in the woods. Stay in your family units, and we shall then foresee the future of our town as we allow for the flames to die down. Several of our firemen have already moved to try and remedy the situation.”  

“How long will this be?”

“How long are we supposed to endure without our homes!?”

“For now that is something that we don’t know, please forgive me for not having all the answers at this moment but I ask you all to be patient.” The Mayor called, hands out, trying to get everyone to see reason, “We have no idea yet of the damage that has been caused but we will all work to hopefully get our town back on its feet within the next few days.”

More questions, more discomfort, more unhappiness. Siwon sighed as he looked away from the displeased crowd.

There really was nothing any of them could do at the moment until everything was settled. How sad it all was, he couldn’t help but think. His eyes traveled up towards the sun that barely pierced through the smoke that seemed to want to swallow it’s light. His eyes widened slightly as it went from a burning yellow to an angry red, pushing away the smoke.

He wasn’t the only one who noticed it as someone in the crowd cried that there was something wrong with the sun, and suddenly the crowd was quiet.

Their attention on the sun that seemed to hold still even as the day around them turned dark, and it should be sundown, but there it was. There it remained, burning, hot and round like a star in the sky.

And the smoke finally ceased.
