“Is this really alright?” Joohyun voiced out her concern once more.

“Truly. Don’t worry about me.” Seungwan pulled the covers over her chest as she leaned back on her framed couch. “You have no idea how many times Seulgi’s stolen my bed before.”

The two were currently in Seungwan’s bedroom chambers. The prince insisted Joohyun take her bed since she was the guest.

Joohyun was a bit uptight about the arrangements. The palace gates have already closed so she was stuck in the palace for the night. But she found it hard to believe that Seungwan didn’t have any other spare guest rooms.

The seventh price housed the Yueliang Palace. Despite not being on par with the Crown Prince’s headquarters in the east of the palace, Yueliang was still enormous with over fifty rooms! They haven’t been cleaned out yet, or it’s occupied was what Seungwan had told her.

But she had a hunch Seungwan just wanted to sleep together again just like when they were younger, so she didn’t push it any further.

It was well into the night. The polished moon was the only source of light that lit up the side of Seungwan’s window. Unsteady breaths of the two indicated that neither had fallen into slumber.

Seungwan had many questions, but she controlled herself.

“Joohyun?” The seventh prince directed her look to the top of her ceiling. “Are you still awake?”

The general’s daughter gave a slight hum in acknowledgment.

“H–how do you feel about our engagement?” Seungwan was actually relieved they couldn’t see each other at the moment. The silence of the night stressed the pounding of her heart.

When the seventh prince first heard about her engagement to the eldest daughter of the war god general, she was ecstatic. Joohyun was someone she admired and respected. Their first meeting left the prince in awe. She was charmed by Joohyun’s integrity and beauty.

Her attraction towards Joohyun hadn’t lessened a single bit as the two grew closer and older. They were reading partners at the Royal Academy. During official banquets, Joohyun always managed to gather her and Princess Yongsun together in order to drive off the unwanted company.

Whenever she was feeling down, Joohyun was there to lift up her mood. When she introduced Seulgi into her life, Seungwan was forever in debt to her. When the older girl left for war, Seulgi stuck by her side through thick and thin in place of Joohyun. To her, Seulgi was a remnant of Joohyun.

It was too late when she finally realized: she
