THE WIND SPIRIT

Every woman and child of the Park family was inside the mansion's library. All were busy reading and researching everything owned and written by Park Seojoon. They were trying to find out how their ancestor was able to trap or trick the wind spirit in the past. The able‑bodied men of the Park family have posted themselves behind the windows and doors of the large house. Each one carried whatever weapon they could grab from the antique firearms collection of their family because Tae Hee only managed to secure five tranquilizer dart guns and two of them were with Jaejoong and Jinwoo.

The other members of the family not involved with research or security duty were with Rain. Rain was busily transforming the basement of the house into a wolf's cage.

Sandara was with the group in the library. The group soon discovered that all the notes and journals of their Great‑Great‑Great Grandfather SeoJoon were written in French! Thankfully, a member of their family had painstakingly translated those in English. But Sandara soon realized that he had only written about his business. Nothing was mentioned about the wind spirit or whatever agreement he had with the latter. Sandara decided to start reading all the letters, journals and other written stuffs left behind by their Great‑Great‑Great Grandmother Mei Xing, who was Grandfather SeoJoon's wife. Even the notes and journals of their two children, Yoona and LeeTeuk didn't escape Sandara's notice.

"There's nothing here but everyday life!" said TaeHee in frustration. She turned to HyeJung, "Aunt Hye Jung, you are the one who taught me the wind song. Do you remember anything else Grandma Tifanny said when she taught you that song?"

"I'm sorry, Tae Hee. The song and the story of Grandpa and the wind spirit were the only things she told me. Everything I knew, I have already told you."

Sandara could feel everyone getting frustrated. It seemed their ancestor, Park SeoJoon, intentionally didn't write anything about the wind spirit. He had intentionally left out the story of the wind spirit in his writings and made it part of the oral tradition and myth of the Park family. He must have thought that if someone outside of the family began reading his journals, he would appear like a crazy old man. If the stories about the wind spirit would only be transferred from one generation to another as some sort of story or myth for children, no one would put too much into it. Children would readily believe such stories while adults would think it was based on a true story only given fantasy elements for the children to enjoy.

Sandara closed the diary of Grandma Tifanny. The diary was more like a cookbook since she listed all of the recipes she had learned during her lifetime.

Sandara began thinking. Every woman in their family who had the Park surname received the song, the story and the pendant... She became still. She turned to her Aunt Tae Hee.

"Aunt Tae Hee, the pendant might have a secret or it could give us a clue on how to defeat the wind spirit!"

"Where is the pendant?" asked Grandma.

          Sandara grimaced.

"I lost that pendant when I first encountered the wind spirit. But that night, the pendant burst into fire when I sang the wind song. I was so surprised I threw the pendant on the ground. According to the wind spirit, because of what I did, he was able to be freed from his agreement with Grandpa SeoJoon."

"Where exactly did you throw it?" Aunt asked.

"On the streets in our subdivision.

          Grandma let out a sigh.

"Then it would be impossible for us to find it again. Whoever had picked it must have pawned it already."

"Did the pendant glow when you two were wearing it?" asked Sandara.

The two women shook their heads.

"Maybe it reacted because of you, Sandara," commented Sandara's Mommy Hyesun from behind. "Maybe the wind spirit was really telling the truth, that like your ancestor, you too have special powers."

Sandara felt everyone's eyes on her.

"I‑I'm not special. I don't‑" Her thoughts suddenly turned back to the moment she and the wind spirit were about to go back to 2016. She wished then to get to know Jaejoong more. She also began thinking about their ancestral home. Was it all just coincidence that they ended up in front of their ancestral home and they had brought Jaejoong with them? Or could it be that she was capable of harnessing the power of the wind spirit?

Female members of their family believed that when they would sing the wind song, the wind spirit had no choice but to grant their wish. Could it be possible that she could order and request the wind spirit to do her bidding?

To be able to prove this theory, she needed to confront the wind spirit again.

A loud shout suddenly jolted them. It was coming from outside the house. Everyone rushed toward the windows. Leaning out of the window, Sandara searched for the owner of the voice. When she finally saw the source of the voice, she discovered it was Mino! He was running toward the house!

Aunt Tae Hee ran out of the house.

Behind Mino, Sandara saw Jinwoo. Jinwoo was supporting Jaejoong. Her eyes widened when she realized that blood covered Jaejoong's upper body! Jinwoo's T‑shirt was wrapped tightly around Jaejoong's neck, and it too was drenched with blood!

Could this mean... All the documentaries Sandara saw regarding dangerous wildlife flashed back in her mind. Those documentaries always showed that when predators attacked their prey, they bit the neck of their victims!

          "Oh God! No!" blurted Sandara.

Sandara went out of the library. The other members of her family followed. By the time they reached the large living room, all the members of the Park family were there. Uncle Rain and Jinwoo were carrying Jaejoong into the house. Jaejoong's eyes were closed, and his face was pale.

Chapter 26: I'm still curious how did the wind spirit break from the pendant? Because Dara sung the song with wrong lyrics or because her faith weavered?
Though I agree with Mino and Jinwoo, the wind spirit really is the matchmaker :)
