Meet Your New Husband

Spouse Exchange

Saturday morning, I had woken up late and decided to stay in. I gave the hospital a call at nine and said I couldn’t enter the hospital today due to a few problems and just stayed in bed.

I was still sad after what I had gone through last night. The feeling of being completely dejected still filled my heart. I try to deny it but it’s a fact I could never outrun, I still loved him. I let out a sigh and decided do some spring cleaning. The house was probably a mess anyway.

I got a short a shower and started with my room. I made the bed and brought my dress down so I could wash it along with the other dirty laundry downstairs. As it rolled around in the washing machine, I vacuumed the living room, dining room and kitchen. Once that was done, I brought the vacuum upstairs and vacuumed my own room. After an hour of vacuuming, I went back down and checked on my clothes.

Once they had been washed, I placed them in the dryer and then head out. The sun was shining brightly and it gave the day a nice light to it. It was a nice day and it wasn’t too hot if I were to decide to wash my car.

I grabbed a pail and filled it with water and some soap before grabbing a huge sponge and scrubbed the body of my car all over with it. Neighbours and fellow people of the neighbourhood would notice me and greet me. I would greet them back but I couldn’t help but overhear some whisper about me and my husband going through a separation. Gossip, something you could never run away from.

As I continued to wash my car, my ears suddenly caught the sound of a loud engine. The sound soon became closer and closer and out from behind the corner house, a man on a black super bike appeared. I couldn’t help but think it looked oddly familiar.

Suddenly, the bike parked itself somewhere in front of my house and the rider mounted himself off of it. I soon stopped washing my car and watched as the rider took off his helmet. I was surprised to find it revealing the face of Yunho.

I dropped my sponge into my pail and walked over to him. He saw me and smiled wide as if he was glad to see me. “Glad I got the right house,” he stated as he hung his helmet on his bike’s handles.

“Yunho,” I started, “What are you doing here?”

His smile slowly disappeared and he looked down to his shoes. After a brief moment of silence he finally looked up and said, “I am here because of your husband. You see, we played a game of poker last night,” he explained and I understood.

“So he owes you money?” I asked as the corner of my lip started to curl in a smile. “I swear that man has the worst hand in poker ever.” I muttered as I looked up to the sky before looking down back to Yunho and said, “I’m sorry, but he’s not here.”

“I know,” Yunho said which made me confused. He then added, “I’m also not here to collect money.”

“Then, why are you here?” I asked with my eyebrows pulled together.

 Yunho's POV

I was sitting on my couch of our apartment when my ears suddenly detect the sound of a faint click. I turn around and saw nothing but just as a precaution of what I was thinking, I stood up and walked over to my room. I expected to find Su Yeon in bed and I did but I knew better so I went in and pulled the covers aside. Fair enough, it was only pillows.

Thinking that I’ve had enough of this foolish nonsense, I changed out of my sweats into jeans, put on my jacket and grabbed my helmet from the kitchen counter. It was time I confront this man my wife was seeing.

I had known she was cheating on me, but never had the courage to ask her, talk to her about it. I had been living in a lie, thinking that everything was fine in our home until I noticed her receiving calls for too many times to be considered work calls and not to mention the late night outings. I got my confirmation when I caught her talking on the phone with the man she was cheating on me with. I was surprised it was the architect we had hired for our house in the city. After weeks and weeks of watching, I have just had about enough.

I saw her get in a cab and thought I wouldn’t be able to catch up with her but I was able to nonetheless. Tailing her from a far enough distance, I followed her until she stopped in front of a pub in Kwan Go District. I parked my bike by the alley because I was afraid she might just make me and watched as she entered the place.

Pulling out my shades from my pocket, I put them on and went in myself. The place was quite packed but it was easy to find Su Yeon. Her bronze trench coat made her stick out like a sore thumb. I on the other hand blended well with the crowd so it made it easy for me to watch in secret. I took off my shades seeing I had no need for them and sat at the bar.

I ordered a bottle of beer from the barkeep and watched as Su Yeon walked over to a table where a few guys were playing poker. The table suddenly erupted in cheer as one guy had won the money on the table. As one guy moves to the side, I saw Si Won’s face under the small light and soon Su Yeon’s arms wrapped itself around him. He looked up to her, smiled and gave her a long kiss.

As I watched from afar, my blood boiled. How dare he do that to my wife and how dare he do that to his own wife back home?! My grip on my bottle tightened by the second and soon it just broke. The barkeep closest to me was surprised and had his eyes wide seeing I had broken the bottle with my hand. I noticed blood was slowly oozing out from a cut but the anger boiling in my ears numbed the pain.

I stood up from the stool, tossed the money for the beer and walked up straight to the poker table. Su Yeon looked almost terrified at the sight of me. I haven’t even begun to say a word and already Si Won’s face had drained from colour.

I grabbed him by the collar and pushed him against the table before I threw a punch in his face. Heads turned and people around us backed away as I continued to punch the crap out of the guy. Su Yeon yelled and begged for me to stop but I wouldn’t listen. How could I when the only woman I loved was being bedded by the very man in front of me. She was cheating on me with him?! He could’ve died if only a couple of guys out of nowhere hadn’t pulled me away from the bastard.

“Let me go!! Get off of me!!” I yelled as I struggled to get out of their tight hold. When they released me, I surprised myself as I just watched the bastard get off of the table without continuing where I left off.

His lip was busted and he had bruised his face pretty bad. I could do a better job but by then I might just be kicked out. The guy in charge suddenly comes forth and bellows, “Look if you want to fight, do it outside gentlemen.”

I didn’t want to because I knew I could kill him so I just grabbed Su Yeon’s arm and said, “Let’s get out of here.”

“No,” she said as she pulls her arm out of my grip.

I turned to her and looked at her quizzically. “Su Yeon,” I called out to her and tried to grab her hand again but she jerked away. “Look, we have to go!” I ordered but she just keeps her distance away from me and soon stands near Si Won.

“I don’t want to,” she says and Si Won smirked at her actions.

“Jung Su Yeon, you come with me right now,” I said and tried to grab her again but one guy holds his arm out and pushes me back.

“Look, give it a rest already,” he said with exasperation, as if it was tiresome to actually calm me down. “If the lady doesn’t want to go, don’t force her,” he pointed out, as if he was trying to negotiate people in a love triangle.

I looked at him with disbelief. “She’s my wife!” I yelled at him and he seemed surprised.

He turned to her and asked with his forefinger pointed to me, “Is this true lady?”

Su Yeon seemed uncertain whether to answer or not. I completely lost it when she said, “No, I’m not.”

“How could you?!” I yelled at her and tried to pounce at her but the guys around us pulled me back. I then glared at Si Won and hissed, “Have you no morale?! How could you do this to your own wife?”

“For your information, we’re separated at the moment,” he said with a smile.

I merely scoffed at him and asked, “So the event before was just some scam to show how happy the two of you are, while you sleep around with my wife?!”

“Look man . . . if your wife doesn’t like you, get a grip,” he said casually with his smirk still plastered on his face.

“Look, if you’re willing to let go of your wife you do that,” I spat at him and remarked, “But I’m not you so I’m going to keep holding on to her whatever it takes.”

“Well I don’t,” Su Yeon suddenly spoke up.

I looked at her like she was crazy. I then turned to Si Won and asked him, “What did you do to my wife?”

“Let’s just say,” he looks up, reaches up for her face and she leans down to plant a kiss on her lips before he looks down to me to continue, “She got what she needed.”

I wanted to just kill the guy but with the men holding me back, I was headed nowhere. I knew Su Yeon was out of my grasp now but . . . I could still try.

“Hey,” he suddenly called out, pulling me out of my thoughts and shot him a glare as he said, “Since you owe me a poker game, why not I make a bet?”

I thought about it and got curious as to what he was betting on so I had to ask, “What’s your bet?”

He leaned forward, places both elbows on the table and says, “If I win, I get to be with your wife for the month. No interruptions, no disturbances; no anything. If you lose, you keep her and I’ll stay out of your hair for good. To make ends meet, you’ll be with my wife . . . deal?”

So he gets my wife while I get his wife, for a month? Is he crazy? What kind of person does he think I am to take such a ridiculous offer? “Deal,” I said and the people holding me back lowered their arms as I approached the table.

I looked up to Su Yeon who eyed me nervously. If I win this, she is getting one heck of a lecture from me. I will immediately seek counselling for this. Si Won dealt the cards which made me doubt he was playing fair. I didn’t know how good he was but from the few times I played with my buddies at the action school, I prayed to God for the sheer dumb luck I had from those few times.

We had a few join us and started with a few tens. I played it safe; to call amounts every time I was unsure. I made sure to put on a good poker face. Si Won seemed calm. I hated him so much. I swear when I win, I was going to skewer him and serve his s to my wife for loving him too darn much. After a good long hour, every player at the table had checked and watched as we faced off.

We were all increasing each other’s amounts until Si Won called and pulled out another card. Once he decided to throw all of his chips into the stash, I had no other option but to call and it was time to reveal the truth.

I was the first to show my card, so I flipped them over and people actually cheered. I had two kings, a good hand since there was a king lined up. Si Won seemed angry for a moment, his fist tightened, jaw clenched and he even looked up to Su Yeon before he threw his cards unturned to the dealer. I was already about to smile as the corners of my lips were about to curl up in a smile when everyone gasped in shock as the dealer flipped the cards over.

“Trip aces,” said the dealer, impressed at his cards and turned to me to say, “Aces have the higher hand, Aces wins.”

Si Won chuckled as he holds Su Yeon’s hand on his shoulder and says to me, “Thanks for the game. You made up, big time.”

All I could think at the moment as I stared at the flipped over cards lay on the table in front of me was, ‘No’.

Min Young's POV

I watched Yunho in pity and also disbelief as he finishes his story for me to listen. So my husband made a bet with him and he won. He actually won in a game of Poker. Who would’ve thought that he’d actually win, especially with the bets being the very thing he couldn’t care less anymore – me.

I my lips and just pushed my hair back as I took in a deep breath. I was trying my best not to explode at the very thought my own husband would actually do this to me. Why would he even bother to do this if he didn’t want me anymore? Why not just file for a divorce? Why not I file for a divorce? But I knew better than myself . . . I was still hoping.

I had ended up crouching on the grass and buried my face in my knees. Now, I wasn’t trying to hold back my anger, but my tears. I was just . . . I couldn’t believe he’d do this to me.

“Hey, are you okay?” Yunho suddenly asks in worry.

“So, what do we do now?” I asked flatly as I continued to look down to the grass.

“Well,” he said as I look up to find him stuffing his hands down his pockets. He smiles down to me and says, “Meet your new husband.”
