Min Young's POV

An hour has passed since I’ve went on my stroll. If it weren’t for the lamp posts along the road, I’d probably be lost in the woods, miles away from home. I regretted not bringing my gloves though as I rubbed them continuously for heat. I didn’t expect such a night to be so cold.

As I walked, I thought of my life. I went to Sam Dong Junior High and moved to Jo Jin High. I then attended Kyung Hee and graduated as a dentist. One year later, I was married and thought my life could never be any more perfect. I thought wrong because as soon as our marriage reached the two year mark, we were already heading downhill.

I had wanted children but Si Won seemed to have given up as our third year came passing by with no news. Then, there were the arguments, the wars and the fights that would sometimes end up in tears but we managed to make up the next day – or after a few days. I stuffed my hands down the pockets of my trench and continued to wander off in my memories and thoughts.

As clear as water, I remembered the night I had found Si Won to be cheating on me. It had pained me; it literally did because I had never thought what we had could actually disappear and end. Now, he was back but I was starting to feel that I no longer want him anymore. In fact, as I walk further, my heart starts to feel a certain longing, a yearning. I now know what I wanted. I wanted Yunho. I was missing him.

I halted in my tracks when a voice suddenly speaks out, “Mind if I accompany miss on this walk?”

I turned around and was surprised to find my father in a trench coat, scarf and a fedora on his head. “Dad, what are you doing out here?” I asked him in wonder.

“I just felt like going out for a walk,” he answered as he rubbed his hands in leather gloves together. I just eyed him and he stopped rubbing his hands. He held them up in surrender and said, “Alright, you caught me.” He lowered his hands and blurted, “I overheard your little argument and next thing I know you had stormed out of the house.”

The small smile I had curling up the corner of my lips shrunk. I looked down to the ground and continued to walk. He joined me and we walked in silence like that for a while.

He then said, “Good to see nothing changed much between the two of you.” I looked to him quizzically and he explained, “I recall you two used to argue a lot when you were around. That never changed despite the uh . . .” his sentence faltered and I didn’t push it. I knew what he meant.

“I’m really confused, Dad,” I confessed.

“Confused about what?” he asked as he looked to me as we walked.

We settled on a bench and it was then did I answer, “I love Si Won with all my heart, Dad. No matter how poor, rich, influential or whatever, my love for him will never change – but that’s what I felt, or thought when we were first married.” I took in a deep breath and played with my ring as I continued, “When he cheated on me, I had never felt so betrayed.”

“He hurt you,” he said. “I get that . . . but how did it get to how it is now in the first place?” he asked gently.

“He came back, asking for forgiveness . . . and I forgave him.” I answered and turned to him to ask, “Do you think I did the right thing?”

He thought long and hard about his answer but replied mine with a question instead, “What do you think? Why did you forgive him in the first place?”

“He told me,” I started and played with my ring as I gathered up the courage to continue, “He wanted to start anew. He said, he regretted ever leaving me and then he starts telling me his memory on the night he proposed to me. How could I not forgive him, Dad?”

“Okay, now when does the confusion comes in?” my father asked.

  “A week later,” I answered.

“Why are you confused, Min Young?” he asked.

“I don’t . . . I don’t know if – if I really still love Si Won.” I answered and looked up to him guiltily. “Why does my heart no longer beat for him?” I ask him.

He puts an arm around me and pulls me close. “Perhaps . . . your heart was just never his to have,” my father simply answers.

  “How am I sure that . . . that what I’m feeling is really, truly . . . gone?” I asked questioningly.

“Maybe you’ll know when the time comes,” he said and leans his cheek on my head as he rubs my arm to warm me up. He then added, “And just so you know . . . whatever it is decision you make, I’ll be right behind you.”

I looked up to him and said, “Thanks Dad.” He merely smiled and tightened his arm around me.

We sat there in silence. No words were uttered. Only the sound of our breathing filled our ears. Even if no words were uttered, it didn’t feel awkward. It actually felt relaxing and I might just have found my relaxant. Guess the walk really worked.

“How does Si Won not know anything about engines?” my father asks out of the blue.

I rolled in laughter and said in between giggles, “I guess he’s just too much of a hard-head to understand gears.”

“Guess that’s what too much concrete does to you,” he jokes in reply and joins me in my laughing spree.

Yunho’s POV

“SCENE EIGHTEEN!! LET’S PREP!!” yelled one of the staff as I sit on a chair in the same outfit as the lead, waiting for my cue.

I was staring at the very ring Min Young had once worn. It was like our wedding ring and now that Si Won had gone back to her, she had given me the ring back. I didn’t have the heart to throw it. It was my only memory of her besides the memories in my mind.

“Yunho,” I heard someone call out and looked up to find my Director standing in front of me with his hands in his pockets. “Are you okay?” he asks worriedly.

I faked a smile as I stuff the ring down my pants with my ring and answered, “Yeah.”

“Still thinking about her, I see,” he stated which made me lower my head in defeat. He sat in an empty chair beside me and pats my back as he said, “You should forget about her, Yunho. She won’t come back.”

“I know,” I said. I looked up and said, “But there’s no pain in reminiscing.” He was about to give me a lecture again but I cut him off, “I know I shouldn’t, sir . . . but these things take time. I need mine.”

“Take your time then,” he says and gives my shoulder a firm grip.

“Hey you,” I heard someone say that sounded towards me and looked up. True enough, one of the male stuff was standing close by, looking at us. “You’re up,” he only said and walked away.

“Be careful,” Director Ji Hun advised as I stood up.

“I will,” I said indirectly and head my way to the sight.

Today, I had to do a scene involving a car chase set on a bridge. I only had to drive the car, change gears, drift, make a turn and drive off into the opposite direction where I came from. It sounds easy but when it came to the real thing, you had to be real careful. Not to mention the fact that it’s a stunt – no seatbelts.

I walked over to the Director of the movie and listened carefully and intently at his instructions. At every unclear order, I’d ask and repeat to make sure I knew what I was doing. Once our discussion was done, time to film.

As always, after every stunt, I’d pray to God to prevent any harm from happening. As I sit in the driver seat, waiting for the cue to go, I fished out our rings. I gave them a good study, looking at every detail for any form of contortion but they were still in perfect condition. I didn’t know why but I suddenly felt like being close to Min Young. I wanted her to be with me in my time of need and so – I slid her ring on and kept mine in my pocket.

As soon as the cue was signalled, I hit the gas. The camera crew followed suit and as I drove at a 100km/h, I would looked over my shoulder to get the feeling of myself being in a chase. Being a stuntman, you had to know what you were doing if not, the afterlife awaits.

The car was a second hand car the studio rented especially for the movie. The actor earlier on only had to slide across the hood and hit the window so he could unlock the door and get in. Next thing you know, he drives off after hacking the wires. That’s where I come in. I’m driving at a fast speed, approximately 100km/h and was told cue by the camera men close by my drift was coming up. Changing gears, I did them in just a split second and next thing you know I was on the other road, driving at the same speed as before.

I stopped at exactly where I started and smiled. “So . . . how did I do?” I asked, fairly confident that I did a great job, but of course . . . it wasn’t.

“Your turning point wasn’t as slick and the camera men were not able to capture the shot at a good angle,” replied the Assistant Director and then told me what I needed to do.

A little disappointed, I did as told and made sure to make it perfect this time but after every attempt there was just something off. Repeat after repeat, after repeat, there were still a few catches. It was either the director was really fussy or he needed to hire a new camera crew but no matter. I couldn’t complain anyway, I was in fact only the stuntman.

At my eleventh attempt, my speed now was 80km/h just as requested and occasionally would look to my right and left instead of just over my shoulder. The crewmen gave me the cue to change my gear but I was taken off guard as it became stuck. I cursed, “!” and tried to figure out a plan. The crew noticed and got out of the way as I pressed the brakes but no use. Instead, I used resorted to another move which was I used the friction of the wheels against the road. I lifted my feet off the gas pedal and turned the steering wheel to the right here the tyres soon screeched to a complete stop.

When the car finally stopped, I could hear my heart thumping against my chest in my ears. My hands were gripping the steering wheel tight and have yet to let go. Beads of sweat trickled down my forehead and the side of my face. As the seconds go by, I tried to catch my breath and stabilize my rapidly beating heartbeat.

“Yunho,” I heard my Director call me and turned to the bashed up window where he appeared. “What happened?” he asked worriedly as he gasped for air from running from the starting line to me.

“The gear,” I said simply and let out a long sigh to let my jitters out. I then continued as I leaned my forehead onto the steering wheel to calm my still palpitating heart, “It got stuck as I tried to switch gears.”

“Get out of that car,” Director Ji Hun ordered and I didn’t dare question his order. As he opened the car door, he yelled across the roads to say, “Get someone to check on the car NOW!!” He then helped me out of the car and led me to the ledge of the bridge so I could get some air.

“Glad all those years of experience helped in the process, aye?” I tried to joke to lighten up the mood.

He looked at me like I was crazy and asked me, “Did you hit your head or something?” I looked up at him and continued, “Do you know what could’ve happened if you hadn’t figured out something at the time? What would’ve happened if you were to panic? Do you think you would even be here, joking if it hadn’t been for your quick thinking?!” I stared at him wide-eyed and in shock. “That’s what I thought,” he said as he fixed his jacket and walked away, firing away orders like a mad man.

Guess Director Ji Hun really cares for me. Well, after what I’ve been through and people have seen it, who wouldn’t? I tried to relax my racing heart and soon it was in its stable state again. As I sit on the ledge of the bridge, I could hear Director Ji Hun fire away his orders as I sit there.

“You make sure that thing is ready for use!! I don’t want anything to happen to my men!! If anything happens to him . . . I’ll sue you for your misconduct!!” I heard him say and smiled to myself. Perhaps he was being too much. Then again, I couldn’t blame a father for being protective of his son because that was how Director Ji Hun was with us.

After half an hour, I was called back. Director Ji Hun repeatedly asked questions regarding the vehicle. He wanted to be extra sure that it was ready for use. He was even threatening the mechanic that if any glitch were to happen he would lose his job. I just had to stop him there because he had practically threatened each and every staff on site.

“Sir,” I said as I grabbed his arm as he argued with the mechanic in the driver seat. He looked up and I said, “I think you should stop.”

He flushed a little and cleared his throat before giving me a hard pat in the back for luck. I gave his arm that smacked me in the back a pat and slid into the seat after the mechanic had got out. This time, I prayed longer and even kissed my three fingers after making a cross over my chest. I then let out a long sigh, took in a deep breath and readily waited for my cue.

Once the director said, ‘Go!’ I hit the gas and continued where I left off. I did everything perfectly, not once did I get cut. We were off to a good start, that was, until my cue to shift gears went off.

I grabbed the shift and the unexpected happened. The shift broke off and I was faced with a dead end. My eyes widened and I could change gear. The crew men brought me back down from my panic but I was seconds too late as I dropped the shift and tried to manoeuvre the car out of where it was headed.

I swerved the car to the side and missed my footing of stepping onto the break but instead stepped on the accelerator, causing me to speed up. Next thing I know, the car drove up a ramp and my eyes were shut tight as I await the car’s impalement towards the concrete floor as it . . .

CRASH!!!!!

Min Young’s POV

I was walking along the hallways of the hospital – which I’ve been doing more nowadays due to my schedule that has been running loose lately. I had so much to think about. I was fighting with myself as I fought for peace of mind.

I was torn between Si Won and Yunho. I knew Yunho might just be far away right now, might’ve done something like me – which was get back together with Su Yeon – but I might have a chance to go talk to him after I figure my feelings out with Si Won. I planned on talking with him about us – finally – and the probably end it all on a good note. The torture was just unbearable. I couldn’t take it anymore.

I let out a sigh and tried to clear my mind as I continued to stroll along the hallways, if only my solitude hadn’t been interrupted by nurses and doctors rushing past me to the ER. I watched Dr Park with his lab coat still on, waiting for the paramedics to bring the patient down from the ambulance carefully and quickly.

One of the nurses was firing away details of the patient to Dr Park. I was able to hear a bit of it – or should I say, all of it. “Patient is late twenties, blood type B; suffered from a car crash down at Il San Bridge.”

As they rushed him to the surgery room, I couldn’t help but feel curious as to whom the guy was. I caught a glimpse of the patient and just felt my gut tighten. He looked very familiar, making me really nervous and anxious at the same time. I didn’t want to know but the curious part of me took over.

I went over to Eun Hyuk who was the paramedic who brought him over and grabbed his collar from behind to catch his attention. When he realized who it was, “What the . . . Min Young, what are you doing here? And why did you have to tug so hard?”

“A sorry, desperate times call for desperate measures,” I said simply. “Who was the guy you brought in?” I asked.

“Now you know I can’t tell you that! It’s hospital rules!” Eun Hyuk said.

“Oh come on, I just need to know. Consider it as a favour from last time. You owe me one, remember?” I told him.

He eyed me and said, “Alright. But it’s a shame wasting it on this one. The crown was worth a fortune!”

“Just give me the name!” I said impatiently and he just nods.

He climbed back up the ambulance and pulled out a green clipboard. He sat at the edge with his legs hanging and said, “Let’s see.” He flipped a few pages and read through before saying, “Ah.”

He was quiet after that. I waited and waited anxiously but he was keeping me waiting. It got on my nerve. “The name, Eun Hyuk,” I told him.

“You sure you want to know?” he asked with an eyebrow raised as he looks up from the clipboard. “Because this guy is just some nobody,” he stated.

“Look . . . just tell me, please,” I pleaded, almost begging him to tell me.

He looked at me one last time and finally turned his attention back to the clipboard to say slowly, “Jung . . . Yun . . . Ho.”
