Twice, In A Day

Spouse Exchange

That night, Si Won had slept on the couch and despite the fact I had unlocked the door, he continued to sleep on the couch. I guess he took his word seriously. As I slept, I couldn’t help but wonder how it would be without him after getting back from work. I wouldn’t have anyone to cuddle to at night but I haven’t had anyone to cuddle to at night for the past few months so it should be of the norm.

I then sat up in bed and thought, but now, I knew that he won’t be coming back. The fact that he was never going to be in the same household with me anymore just makes me feel much worse. Maybe if I go talk some sense into him he might change his mind, but he seemed adamant. I guess I just have to wait for morning.

My alarm clock buzzed as usual at six in the morning and I stretched out in my bed. It was when I turned to my side and not find the usual sleeping partner beside me did I recall what had happened last night.

I immediately got out of bed and went downstairs to see if Si Won was around. I was surprised he was actually gone. I then went back up again and checked the bathroom to see if he was taking a shower or something but it was quiet and empty. I then checked the closet where Si Won and I had shared to keep our clothes only to find only mine were left in there.

I dropped to my knees as all of this just seemed so hard to digest. Si Won had actually left me. He really left me. All that’s left now is to wait for the divorce papers. Maybe he was going out for some time-out. Yes, he was gone for some time-out. Maybe in a week, he’d come back again and we could figure things out.

Who am I kidding? I lay down on the floor and just cried. One big fight and already our marriage is mayhem. Just when I thought Si Won was never going to contact me again, I got a text message. I scrambled to my phone and saw the message to have come from Si Won.

  It had said,

There’s a party Friday night. It’s a celebration of the completion of my current project. I know you might not want to go but… I had already put your name as my so, come to the Le Meridian Hotel by eight. Wear something nice – revealing maybe. I wouldn’t want you looking down to par compared to my clients since you’re my wife.

At his last sentence, I felt like punching the guy. What does he take me for, his trophy? I threw my phone onto the bed and decided to take a shower. I needed to cool down my boiling blood.

Friday and I had an unsettling night. I was having my moments as I cried in bed, missing my husband and wishing he would just come home. He had texted me the venue of the place and to meet him at the lobby.

My eyes were blotched and my head felt numb from the overflowing tears of the night before. As I walked towards the elevator, I hadn’t realized a motorbike was headed my way until it snatched my purse away.

“Hey!! Stop, come back!! Hey!!” I yelled repeatedly as I tried to run towards the perpetrator if only I weren’t wearing such darn heels.

It was soon did I realize another motorbike whilst past me and chased after the bike that had stolen my bag. He kicked the perpetrator until he fell off of his bike. Even without his vehicle, he tried to run away with my tote. Unfortunately for him, he was grabbed by the collar from the back and pulled towards me.

My saviour shoved him into the ground in front of me and said in a muffled voice due to his helmet, “Apologize!”

“What makes you think I’m going to do that?” asked the young and scrawny perpetrator clutching my tote.

Easily, the man with the helmet pulled it out of his grip and handed it to me before grabbing the guy’s collar again and said, “It’s either you apologize or I am sending you straight to the police station!”

The perpetrator immediately gave in, “Alright, alright!! I’m sorry! I’m sorry!!”

The guy with the helmet immediately released him and the perpetrator scrambled to his old bike to ride away. I watched with a smile at how funny he seemed. I then turned to the guy with the helmet and said, “Thank you for that.”

He took off his helmet and smiled, “Oh, no biggie.”

I was surprised to find a very handsome fellow underneath the helmet. His hair was a little flattened but after messing it around for a little bit, he got the volume he wanted. He flashed me a smile and went back to his left behind bike. Casually, he lifted it up and just parked it at an empty parking spot.

He locked his bike and joined me in the elevator. We didn’t make any more conversation after that. I couldn’t help but steal glances though. He was tall, well built, quite tan and very kind. Judging from how daring he was to kick that guy off of his bike, I’d say his profession must involve a lot of danger. It excited me a little to think of the possibility of what he did for a living.

When we got to the Lobby, we excited the elevator together but we went different directions. He turned to the left whereas I turned to the right. He gave me a nod as a goodbye and I replied him with a smile before turning my back to him.

I had unconsciously slowed down my pace and turned my back to see where he was headed. He had went to the counter to ask for something and got what he needed. Next thing I know, he was gone. I let out a sigh and just shake my head of the thought that I might possibly meet him again.

The day went by almost like in a blink of an eye. From setting up may table for my patients, I was now clearing up to get ready for home. Well not home, but a party. My heart felt heavy at the fact that I was just going to be a mere accessory to him but what else was I to do?

As soon as I reached home, I took a shower and put on this fish-tail dress that had a halter and plunging neckline. My hair was tied up in a small bun and I wore a pair of earring and a single ring on my right hand. My wedding ring was on my left and I gave it a good study before I started on my make-up. I went with light make-up, used the eye shadow, mascara and liner to give my eyes the Smokey effect while my lips were dabbed with lip gloss.

In hand, I had a small silver clutch that held my compact, gloss, cell phone and ID. I gave myself a good look and took in a deep breath before pulling up my tail and walk out the door to my car. I knew I was supposed to be an but it felt ridiculous having to drive myself there by myself. When I got out, I received a few stares from the guests going to the event. I fixed my hair and just prayed nothing bad happens.

As I went up the stairs, I saw Si Won pacing the entrance, swinging his arms from the front to the back and greeting his guests with a smile before going back to his worried state. Once he saw me drawing near, anger ignited his eyes.

He came closer, grabs my wrist and hisses, “What is wrong with you?” I pulled my arm out of his grip and fixed my hair. “He fixed the flap to his blazer and whispers to me, “You’re lucky you’re only half an hour late. If you haven’t arrived yet when the VIPs were here I was going to kill you.”

“Why not just file for a divorce?” I muttered as I watched him with the same intensity as he did.

“Well I might just do that,” he said back as he came close before turning his back to me and left me there to digest what he had said.

It hurt of course, being married to him for five years, be treated like trash and now I was about to be thrown away. I felt the tears coming but knew this wasn’t the right time to be all gooey. I took in a deep breath and entered the place. I saw Si Won talking to a group of people and joined him by curling an arm around his.

He eyed me before smiling to his friends and introduced me, “Meet my wife, Min Young.”

I smiled and shook the hands his clients all held out. “You’re lucky,” says one man in a grey suit.

“I know I am,” Si Won said and gives me a kiss on the cheek.

It was to show his affection towards me but I knew it was all for show so I felt the gesture stab me in the chest. I uncurled my arm and spoke to him, “I’m going to go get a drink.”

I excused myself and glided over to the snacks table. I let out a long sigh and just watched the small finger food served in front of me. I wasn’t in the mood to eat so instead I took a glass of white wine and took a sip.

The stress of it all, the tension between Si Won and me, having to ignore it for the sake of his friends, I just couldn’t handle it. Maybe I was foolish to think this event could reconcile our relationship. Si Won had no intention to do so, so why should I?

I had wanted to go to Si Won and tell him I was heading out when I saw him getting cosy with a small, petite woman in a short and pink dress that reached to her knees. The dress was a very fitting dress so it hugged every asset she had. I couldn’t help but wonder if that was the woman I had caught him with.

Curious, I walked over and hooked my arm around his before saying, “Hi.”

Her smile melted off of her face when she saw me and asked Si Won, “Who is this?”

He cleared his throat before answering in a constricted voice, “My wife.”

“Oh,” she said and smiled sheepishly as I hid my glare behind my smile. “So this is your wife,” she said towards Si Won and giggled.

“Who might you be?” I asked ever so casually.

Si Won eyed me with a look that practically threw a warning but I didn’t care. She had no right to get all cosy with my husband. Until we are to be separated permanently, I won’t back down. With that, I put on a smile and just waited for her to answer.

She was going to if it wasn’t for a very familiar man called out to her, “Su Yeon-ah.”

She made an irritated face and turned sharply towards the man I had now confirmed knew. “What?” she asked snappily.

He looked down to her and asked worriedly, “Where did you go, I thought you had gone off somewhere. I only went to take you a drink and already you go running off someplace.”

I had wanted to ask him but my voice caught in my throat when he looked up. He had to look twice so he could make sure who he was seeing in front of him was the right person. He smiled wide and I smiled back.

“We meet again,” he said in disbelief with his smile still intact.

“Yes, we meet again,” I said and he laughed.

Si Won who was witnessing didn’t look at all too happy. “Excuse me, but do you know each other?” he asked as he turned his head to me and him.

The mystery man answered, “Yes. Do you two know each other too?”

“She’s my wife,” Si Won proclaimed possessively as his arm entangled with mine tightened.

Yunho nodded and then turned to me. “A pleasure to meet you again,” he said before holding out his hand to add, “I’m Jung Yunho.”
