Min Young's POV

It was Monday and I really had no mood to be in the office. Luckily on such a day my mood was foul, I didn’t have that many patients to deal with. They were only check-ups and follow-ups so they only took a small amount of time.

I was walking along the hallways of the hospital, trying to walk away my boredom from just sitting in my office, slowly going crazy. As I walked, I couldn’t help but recall yesterday. Yunho had suddenly come back with a suitcase in hand. It seems he had gone back to his apartment to fetch a few things. He didn’t tell me but I could guess judging from the way his face had fallen.

Then, there was this morning. I was surprised he was already up and ready for work. He was on the phone, constantly telling the other person that he would be there any second and repeating the location as if he was trying to make a mental reminder. There was no food served anywhere but he was already rushing out the door to wherever it is he was headed. Despite his hurry, he was still able to turn around by the door and wave me goodbye.

As I enter my office, the images of my meltdown back at Yunho’s apartment filled my mind. I leaned my back against the door and took in a deep breath. As I let out a sigh, I closed my eyes and tried to forget that moment but it stayed sadly. As I was trying to sort out my feelings and thoughts, I suddenly got a knock on my door.

I opened it slightly and there stood Hye Ryung with a few folders in hand. “Doctor Jang?” she called out as she tried to look for me through the small opening.

I opened the door wider but didn’t let her in. I just stood at the doorway and held the door as I asked, “Yes?”

“Here are the patients coming in after three thirty,” she said as she handed the folders. I took them with my free hand and was about to close the door right back but then suddenly she said, “Uh . . . is everything okay, Doctor Jang?”

I just made a blank expression and said, “Yeah.” I then asked with an eyebrow raised, “Why do you ask?”

She seemed a little caught off guard by the question. She blushed pink and tucked a strand of hair that escaped her bun while looking down to her shoes before saying, “You seem . . . different.”

I tilt her head up and smiled when I saw her face. I then said, “You need not worry. I’m just fine.”

She seemed unconvinced but she just let out a sigh and say, “Alright.”

Once she had walked back to the counter, I closed the door and felt myself shiver from the thought of probably my current situation was to be known by my colleagues. I leaned my forehead against the door and grumbled. How is it that they could read me so easily?

I looked up to the ceiling and just whimpered as I felt the pressure build in me at such a realization. I could just imagine the looks my colleagues would give me. Then, there are my neighbours to deal with and my family . . . oh my God, my family. Everything was coming at me from every direction. It made my head hurt and I could feel the room spinning. My head was already lightheaded as I walked over to my table. I wanted to talk to someone but no one came to mind.

As I settle in my seat, I toss my folders onto the table and let out a sigh. I place my chin on my hand as I supported it on the table and I tapped my fingers against the table as I think. I stopped tapping and checked my wristwatch for the time.

“Twelve thirty-two,” I said aloud and suddenly had an idea popped up.

I know it might be a bit sudden, but it was something I wanted to do. I slid my chair closer to my left where my drawer held my cell phone. I took it out and tapped the screen before I tapped the maps application.

Yunho’s POV

“Alright everyone, break time!!” yelled our Director, Mr Ji Hun.

I dropped the prop in my hand, which was a wrench and dragged my feet over to whatever it is I could find solid enough to let my sit on. I let my head settle in between my knees and try to catch my breath.

“A little out of breath there, senior?” asked a familiar voice.

I looked up and saw Jonghyun looking at me with both his hands on his hips and an amused smile on his face. He was wearing the costume still, which was of a suit but was stained with blood and he had some dirt on his face due to the make-up. I on the other hand wore something much thicker – which was a long, leather trench coat and suit – which made me produce more sweat especially from the number of layers, heat and action I had to do.

“Just because I’m twenty-eight doesn’t mean I’m getting too old for this, junior.” I spat back while trying to catch my breath still.

“Now, now, Yunho,” said Changmin who joined us, covered in soot, in a shirt that was burnt and pants. “You must treat the future generation of the Action School with much warmth and kindness,” Changmin stated as he places an arm around Jonghyun’s neck as they smiled sinisterly together.

“Oh, like my treat at that pub last time wasn’t enough,” I retorted as I stood.

“It wasn’t bad,” Jonghyun chided but then scrunched up his nose and added, “But I prefer a much classier place.”

“Hah! Says someone who gets paid only a few hundreds per session,” I stated as I passed them with a smile. He made a face and then showed his tongue to me.

“Yunho-ssi,” I heard Dong Hae suddenly call out and when I turned to him, he was constantly checking over his shoulder for something. As he stops in front of me, he looks over his shoulder one last time and say, “Uh . . . do you know that lady by the red sports car?”

I thought, ‘Red sports car?’ I knew only one person that drove one in that particular colour but it couldn’t be. I looked over his shoulder only to find the exact person I thought to be and widened my eyes.

I heard a whistle and looked to my right as Changmin rests his arm on my shoulder. “Who is that?” he asks as his eyes dilated at the sight of Min Young.

“Hyung, I thought you were married,” Jonghyun said excitedly.

“I am,” I said and just ignored their words as I made my way to Min Young.

She was leaning against the car in exactly the way I remembered her in the morning. She wore a pair of slacks in the colour of dark green and her top was a beige blouse that had a big bow at the front and a light green cardigan on top of it. Her shoes were matching pair of pumps in the exact same colour of her cardigan. She was a sight for sore eyes.

“Min Young,” I called out seeing she didn’t notice me coming.

When she turned her head towards me, she had to narrow her eyes at me and ask, “Yunho? What happened to you?”

I then realized; I was still in my costume, probably in soot and blood as well. I took off my coat and shirt, only in my t-shirt that was still stained in blood but kept it on. I then saw Jun Ho approaching and called out, “Yo Jun.” He looked at me and caught the clothes I threw at him. He caught it and studied them for a moment before nodding and hung them over his shoulder so he could continue to walk on. I turned my attention back to Min Young and came closer as I place my hands on my hips before explaining, “Don’t worry, it’s fake. So, how did you know where I was?”

She her lips and said as she looked down to the ground, “I couldn’t help myself,” and then looked up to me to further explain, “I overheard your conversation this morning on the phone and caught the destination there. Using my smartphone and maps app,” she took out her phone as if to show me proof and ended, “Here I am.”

I just looked at her in amazement. She actually bothered to come here. A smile unconsciously crept up to my lips as I said, “Wow.”

She let out a nervous laugh and said, “I know this is quite sudden but . . . I really thought that maybe we could spend some time together.” It really felt sudden, especially since she’s here to spend time, together . . . with me. She noticed my hung open mouth that was inaudible and explained, “I mean, it is lunch and I don’t have anyone to spend it with. Then, you came to thought so . . .” she seemed flustered about being here, I realized. She eyed the area and then would look away when the people passing us gave us looks. She played with her fingers as she continued to chew on her lower lip. She didn’t finish her sentence eventually.

“Well, I don’t think the guys can make room so . . . do you mind us being separated from the group?” I suggested as I rub the back of my head.

She looked up in surprise and smile. “No worries, I was about to ask you if we could . . . you know,” she said and leaned off of her car only to bend over and pick up two plastic bags with some take-out. “I hope you like Japanese,” she said as she looked up to me hopefully.

“Come on, I think I have the perfect spot,” I said with a chuckle and led the way.

There were many people walking back and forth from spot to spot so because I was afraid Min Young would lose me as she followed close behind, I had to resort to hold onto her wrist. We passed by the eating crew on our right. I noticed Dong Hae, Changmin and Jonghyun sitting on one platform and they were watching me intently as I pulled on Min Young’s wrist to our destination. I shot them a glare and quickly they looked away and stuffed themselves with food.

A few more steps and we were now by a bridge that overlooked the city. I released her wrist and looked to her as she gawked at the view standing before her. She then turned to me and smiled wide. Mission accomplish on choosing a great place for a lunch date.

She then sat in the ledge and pats the spot beside her for me to sit. I jumped up and crossed my legs before tucking them under me. I turned to face her as she took out the boxes from the plastic bags and handed one to me. I hadn’t realized I was starving until I opened the box and saw the food. Almost immediately, my stomach growled which made me turn pink when Min Young looked at me as my stomach emitted such a sound.

I laughed and rubbed the back of my head as I confessed bashfully, “I didn’t eat anything this morning.”

“Next time, eat something before you go out,” she told me worriedly and then snapped her chopsticks before she took a piece of meat from her box and held it out to me. “Here,” she said with a smile.

I was hesitant but I opened my mouth nonetheless and I swear I was in heaven as the meat melted in my mouth. “Ah . . . delicious,” I commented dreamily before I myself pick up a piece of meat and held it out to her. She giggled and accepted my offer.

There was a moment of silence as we ate. I wanted to ask normal things people ask like how was work and stuff but she beat me to it by saying, “Can we start anew?”

“Eh?” I said with an eyebrow raised.

She placed her box on her lap and wiped the corners of her lips before saying after swallowing her food, “We didn’t exactly introduce ourselves properly.”

I then place my box on my lap and held out my hand for a handshake as I said, “Hi, I’m Jung Yunho. Born on February sixth year nineteen eighty-three; current occupation, stuntman.”

She let out a laugh, took my hand and exchanged my introduction with, “Jang Min Young, July fourth, nineteen eighty-three and am currently a dentist.”

After we had pulled our hands away, we picked up our boxes back and continued to eat. As I watched her, I asked, “How long have you been a dentist?”

She made a thoughtful look and said, “About . . . six years, if I’m not mistaken.” I just nodded and stuffed myself with a spoonful of rice before she asked, “What about you? How long have you been a stuntman?”

As I chewed my meat and veggies, I made a mental calculation and swallowed before saying, “Give or take about ten years.”

“Wow!” she said and added on, “That would mean you started . . . at the tender age of-”

She was cut off when I finished her sentence for her, “I know, I know. I was eighteen when I started but hey . . . I needed the money. I was an extra anyway.”

“How did you first meet Su Yeon?” she asked from out of the blue. I was surprised she even wanted to know.

I put my spoon down and started, “Well, I was on the job. It was an action-packed thriller and she became the heroine. She’s an actress.” I then picked at my meat as I further told, “When I first laid my eyes on her I just . . . I was breath-taken. In my mind, I thought, ‘I had to have her’.” I felt foolish suddenly, telling her of my feelings towards the wife that no longer loved me. “At the time, Su Yeon was easily impressed because she was still new. We were completely in love and when I asked her to marry me . . . she didn’t even think twice.” I stopped picking at my meat and felt the pain fill me. “Now . . . she hardly thinks twice about me.”

“I’m sorry I asked,” Min Young sad apologetically as she saw my expression.

I looked up to her and faked a smile, trying to show her I was fine but she didn’t seem convinced. I cleared my throat and leaned forward as I asked, “So, I’ve told you my story. How about you tell me yours?”

“Mine?” she asked as she points her spoon towards her and I nodded. She chewed long and hard before answering with a small smile, “Well, we met when he came to me for a toothache. I remember how uneasy it felt being in that room alone with him because he kept staring at me.” She noticed my raised eyebrows at the mention of the word ‘uneasy’ and quickly explained, “It wasn’t uneasy bad but uneasy good, like how you feel when you’re nervous. I’ve been working at the hospital for a year and never has anyone made me feel that way before.” She then looked down to her food and said, “When he came for his follow-up, he asked for my number. From that, we started texting and talking on the phone for hours, telling our life stories to each other like it was something normal. It was so easy to talk to him at the time. I had wanted to go out on a date with him but because he was still starting out at the time, he hardly got any pay and spent late hours in the office finishing up papers and documents. So, one night, I was staying late because of an emergency, I thought maybe . . . it would be okay, to call him over to this stall I liked somewhere close by and we could meet up. Then, I treated him to the stall’s best burger and even after we had finished eating, we stayed there and chat till God knows what time we finished.” She seemed happy as she reminisce those good old memories in her mind. “When Si Won proposed, I was thrilled. He seemed so sure at the time . . . and I was madly in love with him, so who could decline such an offer?” As soon as her smile appeared, it soon melted away when she said, “But as the years go by . . . he started to change. It all started . . . when he was promoted. He became more . . . self-absorbed, ignorant, cocky and just plain different. The old Si Won I knew hardly made an appearance anymore.” She then added one last time before ending her story, “Si Won was no more the man I fell in love with.”

I wanted to give her comfort, especially since how crestfallen she looked but I suddenly heard Dong Hae call out, “Yah Yunho-ah!! Break’s over, let’s go!!”

I turned to him and yelled back, “I’ll be there in a minute!” I turned my attention back to Min Young and took her hand into mine. She was taken by surprise and immediately looked up to me due to the contact. “Don’t worry about him anymore, okay? Right now, let’s focus more on making ourselves happy. Why should they have all the fun, hmm? You’ll be alright; we’ll be able to go through this together.”

She smiled wide and said again with much sincerity and gratitude, “Thank you.”

Slowly, I pull my hand out of hers and closed my box. “I’m going to keep this for later,” I told her as I stood up seeing my food wasn’t finished yet. I turned to her and asked, “Are you staying?”

“Oh no,” she shook her head as she said so and continued, “I have a few appointments waiting for me back at the hospital.”

“So, I’ll see you back home?” I said and she nodded. “Alright then,” I stood before her and bowed before saying, “Thanks for the lunch, ta-ta!” I waved her goodbye and jogged over to my crew as they prep for the next scene.

Min Young waved back and just sat there as she continued to eat her lunch. As I put back the shirt stained with blood on, I couldn’t help but notice Min Young still sitting at the bridge. Even as I did my fighting scene, I stole glances in Min Young’s direction and saw her watching me intently like the good spectator she was.

Her chin rested on the inside of her palm and she had a smile on her face as she watched me fight. Somehow, watching her sitting there watching me, I had a sense of purpose. I felt like I wanted to impress her, so with every move I made, I made sure that they were sharp, well-timed and precise. As the scene ended, everyone clapped at how good I was. I looked over my shoulder and Min Young was clapping vigorously and cheering loud.

Despite the fact she was far away and her cheers were drowned by the cheers of the staff, it was like she could tell I was watching her. A smile beamed my face as I continued to watch her cheer for me. Su Yeon had never visited my work site, she had never cheered me on even if she was around and never had she been so proud like the very woman I see in front of me.

I really felt appreciated and it meant so much to me, that she appreciates me so much. How is it really, that a man could not love such a person when I could hardly keep my heartbeat stable? It was official . . . I was in love.
