Finding The Truth

I Am

“Hey.” Doojoon felt someone tap his cheek, “Hey!” The voice said and shook him. Doojoon's eyes opened and the first thing that he noticed was how cold it was. His breathing was shallow and his body began to shake.

“Where...” He croaked and his eyes focused on Chief Lee who blocked the morning sunshine.

“Minhyun, get an ambulance right now.” Chief Lee said and Doojoon listened to Minhyun's foot steps walking away. Chief Lee helped him sit up and leaned him against the wall. As Doojoon adjusted himself, he felt something cold on the ground.

Snow? He scanned the alley to see it covered with it. Chief Lee took off his jacket and draped it over him. He was thankful to feel the warmth from Chief Lee's jacket.

“You should be glad that it was just a bit of snow. Otherwise, you would of died out here.” Chief Lee crouched in front of him and wrapped his jacket more tightly around Doojoon.

“Y-Yeonwoo..” Doojoon gasped, “Where is Yeonwoo?” He grabbed Chief Lee's shoulders. “Where is she?”

“What do you mean? Isn't she inside?”

“L-Last night.” Doojoon's eyes stung, “She left.”

“What?”

“We still can't find her?” Chief Lee asked as Inspector Choi and Minhyun went to his office to do their report. He sighed and held his head in his hands.

“It's difficult to find someone that didn't really exist in our system. We just have her old identity from six years ago.” Minhyun placed the document on the table. “There's no one we can come in contact with that knows of her whereabouts. Hopefully we can find someone soon.”

“Not to mention she also took a handful of files that containing her father and past mafia leaders.” Inspector Choi showed Chief Lee the CCTV camera of her breaking into the office.

Chief Lee sighed once more and rubbed his temples, “How is Doojoon holding up?”

“He recovered quickly, but he has isolated himself at home. Something must of happened that night that he didn't tell us at the interrogation.” Minhyun frowned, “We need to find Zero quickly. I have a bad feeling that something horrible is going to happen to her.”

Yeonwoo...where are you? Doojoon stared at the wall of his room. He couldn't let go of what he heard that night before she had left. The more he thought about it, the louder her voice played in his head. He tried to imagine what she had went through during his careless times when he was young. He wondered how much she endured to get this far in her life while he took it easy with her mother at his side.

Can you explain more in detail?”

“I can't say much, but go to her house...”

He picked his sorry self up and went to get his keys. He needed to get to her house. He had a good feeling that all the answers to how she's thinking would be there for him to know. He got to her house in no time and seeing the door sent chills down his spine. He ignored the chills and didn't hesitate to kick the door open to let himself in. This time, he went straight to her room. He anticipated for a clean modern room with a desk, chair, bed and drawers, but he was surprised to see just a bed and desk. He stared at the faces on the wall by her bed. Some of the wanted suspects he recognized and dreamed of capturing during his time as an low officer. He didn't think that she was a helping hand when the news broke of their arrest. He walked in and went to her desk. Along the wall, there was a time line of pictures and notes. The time line began at her earliest memory to the present.

The beginning titled 'Orphanage'. It showed a picture of Zero's younger self standing with a frown next to three nuns. He read the post-its right next to the photos. “Mom? Gone. Dad? Missing. Who is the one that left me there?” He scanned to the next title that read, 'Zero'. It showed a picture of her standing next to her father. This time she was smiling brightly. His eye's shifted to the photo next to it to see a thinner version of her sitting at a dinner table with who he assumed was a younger Chief Lee and his dad. The post-its right in between those photos were longer and more in detail. “Who was killed that night? -woman dead. -lots of blood. -abandoned. Police covered up?” Doojoon leaned against the desk. Please tell me these wasn't your thoughts at that age. At that age, all he talked about were games and toys with his friends. He pushed himself to keep reading. There was a set of names attached that he didn't recognized, but he had a feeling that those people were on her hit list. The next titled, “Lee Younggyu”. It stated the time of his death and what had happened during that time before he died. This is incomplete...Doojoon slammed his hands on the table. Even this time, I can't tell what she's thinking. He squeezed his hands into tight fists. He hit the desk once more and a piece of paper fell from behind one of the books that fell over. He picked up the sheet from the ground and read what it had said. He dropped his arm to his side and let the piece of paper slip from between his fingers. It can't be...It can't. His tears rolled down his cheeks. This isn't right. What is this?
