Just when I thought I was happy just like that—being Jihoon’s close friend and all, the obstacle came.

Since it was a new semester, there was a new student in our class--new boy to be exact.

He was good-looking.

At the first glance I could tell that he was cute.

And when I looked at Jihoon, he stared at that boy intently.

"Oh my...."

He couldn't be in love with that boy already, could he?

"I--"

I couldn’t help but imagine that boy and Jihoon became a couple.

They were going to look cute together.

I sighed and enjoyed that day’s lesson.

It was break time.

Jihoon was with that new boy already.

He was the vice student president, and he had gone to show that new boy around.

I sighed again.

I busied myself by watching some videos, my hyper body just felt so tired.

It worsened my mood.

I looked out the window and saw Jihoon.

He was sitting at the bench in our school park.

That new boy was not there.

Jihoon then had his lunch there.

Speaking of lunch, I hadn’t had my lunch.

I had no appetite to do so.

I was not having a good feeling.

 

 

That day was Friday.

It was supposed to be my day out with Jihoon—supposed to be.

Jihoon canceled it.

He looked so sorry.

“I’m so sorry Soonyoung-ahh, I have to attend a meeting after school.” 

“Nah, it’s okay.” I said.

“And you can go home first, don’t wait for me, the meeting is usually taking fore—“

“I know. I’ll go home first.”

Jihoon smiled and tried to ruffle my hair while tip-toeing.

I swayed his hand away.

Jihoon just laughed. I smiled.

 

 

That day, I walked home alone.

I couldn’t help but felt lonely.

Jihoon was always there to walk me home, because we were neighbors.

I looked up at the sky.

It was going to rain soon, I guessed.

The dark cloud was gathered and seemed like ready to pour the rain.

I sighed and walked faster.

I didn’t bring my umbrella.

When I reached my house, it started raining.

I took a bath and laid on my comfy bed.

But suddenly my mind drifted to Jihoon.

“Jihoon doesn’t have his umbrella with him too I guess.” I thought.

So, I decided to bring an umbrella for him.

I walked to the school.

From a far I could picture two figures in front of the school gate.

“Jihoon?”

I walked closer.

“And a boy?”

That boy had his jacket over his and Jihoon’s head.

I walked faster to them and raised my hand.

But those two started to run to the other direction.

I stood there.

My hand dropped to my side and the unused umbrella dropped to the wet ground.

I saw those two figures disappeared at the end of the road.

They were probably heading to the bus stop.

I felt so sad.

“But why?” I asked myself.

“I have no right to stop Jihoon from going with other boys.” I thought bitterly.

I knew. But I just couldn’t lie to myself that I was—

“I was in love with him.” I thought.

I took the unused umbrella and walked home.

Suddenly, my phone rang.

I got a message, from Jihoon.
