Is Your Heart Not Shaken?

How could anyone be so pretty? That was question that I kept asking myself, as I looked at Sabrine. “So Seokjin how old are you?” I was brought from my thoughts by Mrs. Michael’s question.  “I’ll be eighteen in December, sir.” “Oh really December what?” “The fourth.” “Sabrine’s is the fifth she’ll be seventeen.”

 At the mention of her name Sabrine looked up first at her father then at me, clearly confused, and again her father translated our conversation, she smiled at me while talking to her father. ‘She said she knew there was something special about you.” When he finished she winked at me, and I swear my heart skipped a beat.

The dinner continued after that, when we were finished we moved into the living room. I had noticed that since earlier my mother had been looking around, though I assumed she had just been looking for the bathroom, it wasn’t until a little while later that I found out what she was looking at. “I’ve been noticing since earlier that you have some very beautiful art work hung up, did you get it on your travels?” Mrs. Michaels decided to answer my mother after sipping her tea. “Actually these were all done by Sabrine Most of the vases are also her work.” At that my mother’s mouth all but dropped to the floor, and while Mr. Michaels translated for Sabrine I took the time to look at the paintings on the walls, some were of people some of the ocean but the biggest and most beautiful of them all was a beautiful painting of what seemed to be a giant pond with lotus flowers floating upon it and in each lotus there was a candle placed in the center, and I swear it was if I could actually see the flames flicker slightly, it was breathtakingly beautiful.

“Sabrine actually plans to go to art school, when she’s finished with high school.” My mother nodded in response to Mr. Michaels. “We have an amazing art school here, I’m sure she’d have no problem getting accepted. “At my mother’s statement Mr. Michaels translated once again for Sabrine. “She said she was actually very interested in that school, but she’ll have to learn the language first.”

My mother nodded a little more than necessary, and then I saw her ‘I have a great Idea’ face appear. “I have a great Idea how about our Jin teach you Korean, and you could teach him English.” The command like question my mother asked Sabrine was translated and pondered. “She said as long as you don’t mind, she would be very grateful.” All eyes were now pointed at me, but the pretty honey colored ones were the only ones I really cared about. “I don’t know if I can be a good teacher but I’ll try my hardest.” “Since summer break just started you will have lots of time to learn.” As soon as my mother started planning with Mr. and Mrs. Michaels I tuned her out and turned to look at Sabrine, who much to my surprise was also staring at me with a beautiful smile on her face, why is she so beautiful? “Okay jin?” “Okay? Okay what?” I saw Sabrine giggle from her seat across from me. “I said you’ll begin your lessons on Monday, please try to pay attention Kim Seokjin.” “Oh alright that’s fine.” My mom smiled back at me clearly happy to have gotten what she wanted.

“Well it’s gotten pretty late so we will be heading home, thank you very much for the meal. Next time we’ll treat you.” My father stated standing, with me and my mother following. “I’ll show you to the door.” Ms Sabrine offered while my family bowed. Mr. Michaels once again forced Sabrine’s head into a bow. As we were leaving Mrs. Michaels and my mother were setting up a lunch date for later in the week. “Thank you for company I hope you enjoyed yourselves.” With one last bow and thanks me and my family were out and back at our own home.

“Aren’t they wonderful?” my mom gushed. “Jin you make sure you do a good job okay.” It wasn’t so much a question than a command; I nodded quickly and escaped to my room before my mom started relaying the whole night as if I wasn’t there.

As soon as I stepped into my room my phone rang in my pocket, slightly shocking me, it had been quiet all night I almost forgot I had even brought it with me.

“Jin Jin, what’s up buddy?” that happy sing song voice was none other than my best friend Jin Hyosang. “I called you three hours ago, don’t Jin Jin me.” I wasn’t angry I was actually quite happy I hadn’t hung out with Hyosang today, because I wouldn’t have had the opportunity to meet Sabrine, I mean I’m sure we would have ran into each other in the hall way or the elevator, but it wouldn’t have been the same I’m sure. So here I was feigning anger toward my best friend, because if you let him off the hook once it’ll become a bad habit.

“Awww Jin Jin you know I’m sorry, forgive me this once, hmm.” I counted to five under my breath as he kept his ‘hmmm”s’ coming, that’s enough suffering I suppose.

“Alright your forgiven, but guess what happened tonight?” I couldn't wait to tell him about the goddess down the hall. “What, what happened?” So I told him about the night not leaving out a single detail of our encounter. “I swear man she is just so beautiful and adorable and beautiful.” “So because I didn't answer your text I helped you find a new crush? Dude you should be thanking me.” At his statement I blushed a bit. “As thanks I’ll treat you to ice cream.” “Jin Jin I only have you, I’ll be at your place at one?” “Call!” “Jin Hyosang how many times do I have to tell you to put your shoes away properly?” “Shoot I gotta go see you tomorrow.” Was his rushed reply as he hung up. I sat on my bed and looked at the clock on my phone it was nine thirty, I was usually an early sleeper but I was floating on cloud nine and wasn't the least bit tired, I flipped on the TV and watched half interested. “I wonder if she thinks I’m attractive.” The thoughts of Sabrine running through my mind eventually lulled me to sleep, only to dreams of her. One thing was for sure, I couldn't wait till Monday.
