4 – LATE OFFER

Yuri’s POV

Seriously, this Jessica Jung is so mean and plain-hearted. It’s already three days ago but I still can’t forget what happened that day.

I swear I will avoid her forever, which is… honestly, impossible…

“Kwon Yuri-sshi.”

Suddenly, there’s someone calling my name and I find this girl standing beside me.

“Hi, my name is Kim Taeyeon.”

“Neh Kim Taeyeon-sshi? Is there something I can do for you?” I ask this petite girl.

“Actually, I am looking for a partner to do the assignment from professor Song’s reverse psychology class. I wonder if you are taken already or not.”

Hearing that, I can only smile and reply gladly.

“Well I’m free, kekeke. I am looking for one too. Thanks God you show up.” I smile again to her.

“Thank you so much. So, when will you have some free time to discuss about it?” She asks me again and I think about it.

“Well, sooner is better. I have a class 15 minutes from now and after that, I think I’m free. What about you?” I ask her back.

“I just ended all of my classes for today actually. Hmmm, well then, I’m going to wait you in the library? How is it?” She raises her eyebrows.

“It’s fine with me. Sorry to make you waiting there. Kekeke.”

I say that to her while taking my mobile phone.

“Can I have your number then?” I ask her number and then we exchange our numbers. After that, we say goodbye to each other as she walks heading to the library while I’m going to my class.

Yoona’s POV

I am sitting on the bench, in one of our campus’ garden. I’m staring at the pale blue sky. To be honest, this is my favorite place to kill some time. It’s very quiet here. There are no people around this garden. Well, some students will pass by but it’s very rare actually. It’s really an isolated yet a beautiful place in the corner of our campus.

It’s so refreshing and calm. I like the air here.

However, I’m coming here for a different reason today. I promise to meet Hyukjae-sunbae here today. We’re going to talk about the assignment for our next week class.

Yesterday, I texted him and suggested to have a talk before directly choosing and reviewing the paper. He then asked me to meet at the place where there are not so many people around, I’m not sure why. This place then came as the solution for me and he agreed.

So yeah, here I am waiting for him. What took him so long by the way?

The only reason why I want to be his partner is because he’s the best student in his batch. It’s not like I doubt the other’s capability but sometimes, the other students don’t want to be in the same group with me because they think that I’ll take all the responsibilities. They also think that I’m too smart that they can’t cooperate with me or they can’t understand what I am saying or thinking. That’s why, it’s better to pick someone who is smart and also really kind at the same time.

So… basically, I am friendless. I don’t have any and I’m always alone. I know that some of my classmates are nice and kind to me but they can’t hide their real expressions, showing how they actually don’t want to be that close with me.

I really wonder why? I hear that some students name me as the perfect student ever. Smart, pretty, rich, etc… really I am grateful to know that but if being the perfect student means loneliness then it’s better for me to not be the perfect one. I don’t really care anymore actually and I’m just going to live my life the way it is.

Besides…

“Y-Yoona-sshi.”

His voice surprises me. It wakes me up from my daydreaming.

“Ah, Hyukjae-sunbae.”

I stand up and bow to him. He returns the bow.

“I-I’m s-sorry. I-I’m c-caught i-in t-the t-traffic.”

Can’t he speak well?

“Sunbae, are you alright?” I ask him while both of us sitting on the bench. I’m sitting at the other edge and he is at the other one making the middle part of this bench left empty.

“I-I’m alright. I’m just… mmph… a little bit e-exhausted.” He manages to reply.

“Here… have some drink sunbae.” I hand him my mineral water.

Writer’s POV

“E-eh?” Hyukjae asks in confusion.

He is actually a little bit shocked. Yoona just handed him her drink. He takes a look at the bottle and it’s half-filled. It means that Yoona had drunk the water before. It then means he will have an indirect kiss if he drinks from the same bottle.

Thinking about that, Hyukjae can only blush. Seriously, when it comes to Yoona, all he can do is blushing.

“Is i-it ok?” Hyukjae asks again.

“Neh, you indeed need some water sunbae.” Yoona convinces him.

Hyukjae takes the mineral water, still blushing of course.

“T-thank you Yoona-sshi.”

“You are welcome.” Yoona replies Hyukjae’s gratitude.

Nervously, Hyukjae opens the bottle cap. He is blushing even more right now and he is so embarrassed to think about the indirect kiss.

“Why am I being like this? Why am I so freaking nervous?” He says to himself.

Hyukaje finally drinks the water from the bottle.

“Is it just my feeling or the water really taste sweeter than usual.” He says again to himself.

It feels so great for him to finally have some water after running from the main gate to the place where he is meeting Yoona right now. He just ran with all of his energy because he knew that he is late.

“Feeling better now?” Yoona asks the clueless Hyukjae who just finished drinking the mineral water.

“N-neh. Thank you once again Y-Yoona-sshi.” He answers shyly without even seeing Yoona’s face. He doesn’t have any courage to face that face because his face will be absolutely reddened after that.

“So… should we start discussing the assignment now?” Yoona starts the topic again.

“S-sure.” Hyukjae replies shortly, still doesn’t face the questioner, causing Yoona to smile.

“Why? Why are you smiling?” Hyukjae asks when he notices Yoona’s smile.

“It’s because you are so funny sunbae.” Yoona answers. The answer makes Hyukjae to blush again.

“I just find the way you answer my question is so funny sunbae.” Yoona explains.

“Why is that s-so?” Hyukjae asks and his system is filled with curiosity right now.

“Because it’s short and… you sound like you are so innocent and honest.” This particular answer brings Hyukjae to something more than just blushing, something that he can’t even name.

Really, Yoona can feel how innocent and honest Hyukjae is. Every single word that comes out from his mouth sounds so peaceful for an unknown reason to her ears. It’s true that Hyukjae sounds nervous but it’s not a nervous from lying. Yoona admires how Hyukjae can be like that effortlessly.

For her, it’s always hard to fake every little thing she says. It’s difficult for Yoona to always try to sound polite and nice.

“Somehow, I envy that side of yours.” Yoona honestly confesses.

“W-what do y-you mean?” Hyukjae manages to ask. The curiosity inside his body is hungry.

“I actually wonder why I am saying all of these things to you now.” The girl looks so sad. She looks like she is in a deep pain and that causes Hyukjae to feel hurt. He is hurting to see the girl he is in love with like that. He really wants to comfort her.

Yoona doesn’t really notice how she, herself, starts complaining and showing her jealousy. The calm Hyukjae manages to pull out something that Yoona has buried deep down inside her heart. The aura of serenity from Hyukjae makes Yoona feeling convenient to slightly show who she really is.

“W-Why would you e-envy me when all the p-people envy you Y-Yoona-sshi? You a-are very b-beautiful, especially when you are smiling. Y-you are smart also… and y-you are k-kind. I-I think… y-you must have no w-worries.” Hyukjae finishes his comforting words and he swears he can die just to remember how he just described Yoona. But then, he realizes that it doesn’t work as he hears the girl’s reply.

“But you never know how it feels to be me sunbae.”

Somehow, after Yoona finishing that line, both of them are in the speechless state. Both of them keep the silent. No one speaks again. This meeting is supposed to be the meeting for them to talk about the assignment but strangely, it turns out to be another session.

For the very first time, Hyukjae witnesses the fragile side of Yoona. Every day, when he sees Yoona walking in the corridor or everywhere in the campus, he will see the smile. He’ll see this girl nicely greets the others. He’ll see the optimistic aura around Yoona.

However, this afternoon, she’s a different Yoona. This side of Yoona is not the side that makes Hyukjae fell in love with her. But, this side of Yoona actually makes Hyukjae falls in love deeper with the girl. This gloomy-looking girl needs support and Hyukjae will do everything for her.

Yes, their short conversation just made Hyukjae loves Yoona even more. He blushes to think that he should try to comfort Yoona right now. Well, he opts to be in silence after all. He still doesn’t have the courage to show his love towards the girl.

Yoona feels really guilty actually. It’s all her fault that this meeting to talk about the assignment cancelled. She doesn’t have any idea why suddenly she changes the topic. She just can’t help but to blurt out some part of her honest feelings. She knew that she’ll regret it but perhaps she just want to show who she really is.

Then she realizes that there’s no point on doing that. She concludes that it’s better to stop now.

“I’m sorry sunbae… can we talk tomorrow instead? Suddenly, I feel like I’m sick.” Yoona suddenly speaks. Well yeah, it’s a lie again to say that she feels sick. She just doesn’t want to let her sunbae seeing her tears.

Even before Hyukjae can answer the previous question, Yoona has stood up already and walks leaving the poor guy. To their surprise, it starts raining at that moment.
