After School

Don't Let Me Dance Alone (My Dancing Boy Sequel)

~ONE WEEK LATER~

Changjo sat in the classroom, his books sprawled all over his desk and two others. He sat on his chair, looking at all his open textbooks and his notes. He frowned, and exhaled a sigh.
“Aish, staying here for study was a bad idea,” he mumbled to himself, ruffling his hair. He picked up his pen, and continued to write the half-finished equation on his notebook. As he did so, he glanced to his books, and copied a formula.

He continued to religiously write until the door to the classroom opened. Changjo tilted his head, attempting to see who was there.

“Jonghyunnie?” a voice asked.
Changjo sighed to himself. “It’s Ginger. Rachel wouldn’t call me like that...oh well.”
Ginger walked in, her eyes widening at Changjo’s workspace. “Whoa, Jonghyun, is this all yours?”
Changjo nodded, proud of himself. “I’ve been doing my homework,” he smiled lightly.

Ginger sat on the nearest desk, and turned the chair to face him. “Jonghyunnie, why aren’t you with the rest of the members?”
Changjo smiled to himself, and continued to write. “Because I wanted to stay here.” And I wanted to see Rachel but I saw you instead.
Ginger pouted. “You were so lazy when you were younger. You never wanted to do your homework.”
“Well, things change Ginger.” Changjo continued to write, turning the page of his textbook.

The air was silent for awhile, the scratching of pen on paper easing the tension for awhile. As the clock continued to tick, Ginger sighed, and Changjo frowned, the caring and concerned attitude he always held for her snapping into action.
“What’s wrong?” Changjo asked, putting the pen down.
“Nothing,” Ginger replied quietly.
Changjo rolled his eyes. “I haven’t heard that one in awhile.”
“Yah, Oppa,” Ginger pouted again.
“I haven’t heard that line for awhile either. What’s gotten into you?” Changjo laughed loudly, beginning to close his books one by one.

Ginger looked at him, the air suddenly becoming serious. Changjo stopped smiling, and looked at her.
“Do you remember when we were sitting outside my house, waiting for Appa to unlock the door?” Ginger twirled her brown hair self-consciously.
“We didn’t wait long, your butler let us in anyway,” Changjo replied quietly.
“It was fun waiting for him though, we played ISpy. It was your favourite game, remember?”
“You kept on picking T for Tree. You were never good at that game,” Changjo piled his books together, placing them on the desk.
“We had fun didn’t we Jonghyun?”
Changjo shrugged. “Yeah, we did.”

The two continued to talk, bringing up old childhood memories which Changjo himself had nearly forgotten about. Ginger continued to bring up each one, and Changjo felt all sentimental, remembering their ice-cream trips and the fun rides with Ginger’s chauffeur. He began to remember how he would wait outside the company building with Ginger until his parents finished work, and how he wanted to become a security guard if it wasn't for his love for dance and Teen Top. Changjo looked at Ginger, who was still engrossed in recalling old memories, and admired her features. She was still child-like, with the rounded face and big eyes. He couldn't help but admit to himself once again how much she reminded him of Rachel.

Or was it the other way around?

Either way, Changjo could never think of Ginger that way. She was an old friend, nothing more, nothing less.

He just cared for her like a little sister.

But somewhere, deep in Changjo’s heart, he could feel that Ginger had a real reason for coming back.

What was she really doing here, other than filming that drama with Jung-Hwa?

Despite his train of thought, he realised that he could never think badly or dislike her, no matter how hard he tried.

Something would have to happen for that switch to flick.

And Changjo felt like that switch would flick soon.

Meanwhile Rachel sat in the library, her head on the desk. She gave up on her English assignment ages ago, and decided to just try and fall asleep. It was actually quite comfortable, and as her eyes began to close, she opened them fully as someone lightly tapped on the desk, the sound echoing through her ears.
“You’re not gonna go to sleep are you?” a voice asked.
Rachel lifted her head, rubbing her eyes and sitting back in her chair. “Niel, I thought you’d be at the dorm.”
Niel shrugged, and sat next to Rachel. “I wanted to stay back for a little.”
Rachel glanced at the clock nearby. “But it’s quarter past four. You really wanna stay back longer?”
“The library is going to close in 15 minutes Rachel, so you get to leave with me anyway,” Niel smiled.
Rachel closed her book. “Who said I was leaving with you?”

Niel ran a hand through his hair. “Because I was going to ask you if you wanted to go to the new cafe down the road.”

Rachel’s eyes widened at Niel’s smooth approach. Was he taking lessons from someone? Rachel couldn't help but smile. Niel really wanted this.

Wanted her.

Rachel’s heart stung, and she wanted to bang her head on the desk. Instead, she just let it fall and land loudly.

A more subtle approach to the ‘bang’ she originally thought of. “Yah, Daniel, it’s late, wouldn’t it be closed?” Rachel asked.
Niel shook his head. “They open till late. Why, you don't wanna go out with me?”
“Is this a date now?” Rachel turned her head to look at Niel, but still resting on the desk.
“Sure why not, I wasn't even thinking it was gonna be a date anyway,” Niel grinned.
“You liar, you wanted me to say that.” Rachel rolled her eyes, and began to pack her books.

Niel watched her quietly. “So, is that a yes?”

Instantly, Rachel thought of Changjo and what he was doing. Was he with Ginger? Was he at the dorm?

She honestly did not know what to do. She mentally panicked, and decided to just close her eyes and answer the question.
“Yeah alright, since you still owe me a date.” Rachel grabbed her bag, and placed her books inside.

No words could describe the glee on Niel’s face. “Let’s go!” he eagerly said, heading towards the exit.

Rachel followed, unaware that Changjo was in the classroom on the second floor, which had a great view of both her and Niel leaving the school.

“So, is that how it’s gonna be Niel hyung? Fine.”Changjo thought to himself.
