Screw Personal Space

Pinky Promise

The next morning Seunghyun woke up later than usual considering it was Saturday and he can finally relax without having to worry about his multiple’s clients and the different contracts put in front of him. Being the managing director of Choi Industries at 26 was hard but not impossible, and Seunghyun liked his job. It was a different challenge every day and he barely ever got bored with it. He got up from bed at 11:00 with his hair ruffled and with no shirt. Barely opening his eyes, Seunghyun walked over to the bathroom to brush his teeth. When reaching for the door knob, the door suddenly opened and a small body crashed into his bare chest. Seunghyun was now fully awake. He looked down to see Dara, fresh from a shower, with only a towel wrapped around her petite body. Her hair was still dripping with water and sending off a slight fragrance of roses to his nose. She had a small beauty mark on her left shoulder blade Dara’s skin was pale yet so lively at the same time, if it weren’t for his self-control he would’ve been tempted to touch her and see if she really was as soft as she looked at the moment.

Being under Seunghyun’s strong gaze was not comfortable for Dara when she was fully clothed, and now just being in a towel was torturous. However, his stare wasn’t the only thing that was distracting, it was also the fact that he wasn’t wearing a shirt and she once again had a full view of his glorious torso. She couldn’t help but ogle at his defined chest and his toned biceps and triceps. When she finally looked up at Seunghyun she noticed him staring back at her and it wasn’t long until she blushed a deep shade of red, probably matching the color on his nails. The two stayed quiet just staring at each other and silently admiring each other’s beauty until Seunghyun finally snapped out of it and realized what was going on.

“Oh . Sorry, I didn’t know you were in the bathroom.”

“It’s ok…” Dara was about to move away from him and into her room when she heard him say something else.

“Um, I don’t mean to insult you, but since your roommate isn’t a female… maybe walking around in a towel isn’t the best idea.” Dara was embarrassed but also didn’t like what he was implying.

“Excuse me, what are you trying to say?” Dara turned back around to face him still holding the towel to keep it from falling.

“I’m just saying, you shouldn’t walk around the apartment with just a towel on.”

“Says the person with no shirt on.” Dara stared back at him with raised eyebrows and one hand on her hip while she continued “and I’m not walking around, I just got out of the bathroom I forgot to take my clothes with me and plus I wouldn’t have done it if I knew you were awake. Plus don’t act like you weren’t checking me out a second ago.” The last sentence caught Seunghyun off guard.

“WHAT? I wasn’t checking you out! I was just momentarily surprised, and please don’t act so innocent I see you staring at my chest.” Seunghyun ended with a smirk. Dara’s eye widened and was speechless; she didn’t know how to respond and did the first thing that came to her head. She stuck her tongue out at Seunghyn and ran to her room. In there she slapped herself for having the worst comeback in history. Seunghyun, on the other hand, was still standing there but now laughing at her childish behavior and he would have to admit, he found it cute. He was confused how someone that small could look so tempting in a towel but cute at the same time but soon slapped himself for thinking like that about another woman when he knew he already had a girlfriend. In the bathroom, as he was brushing his teeth, he realized how his words could have meant something else, something very insulting and immediately felt bad for indirectly calling her shameless. He knew he had to apologize.

When he got out of the bathroom, fresh from a shower himself, he saw Dara in the kitchen making scrambled eggs. He walked over to the counter and was debating on what to say.

“Hey Dara…” He started out cowardly, but Dara didn’t reply or turn around. , did I hurt her feelings? Seunghyun felt horrible for hurting a girl’s feelings and didn’t know what to do, but he tried again.

“Hey Dara… are you um mad at me?” At this, Dara did turn around and it surprised Seunghyun.

“No why would I be mad, it’s always fine when someone calls me a .” Seunghyun was shocked when she used that word specifically. He never meant to call her anything terrible.

“I never called you a !”

“You might as well have.”

“I swear I didn’t mean anything bad when I told you not to walk around in a towel earlier. I’m sorry it wasn’t on my part to say anything in the beginning anyway, I realized what the implications were only when I got into the bathroom. Please don’t take what I said the wrong way.” Dara looked back at Seunghyun and he seemed really genuine with his words and she instantly felt stupid for overreacting.

“It’s okay, I shouldn’t have overreacted anyway. Sorry it just got to me, it’s kind of a sensitive time for me being away from my family for the first time.” Dara said the last part while looking down at her fingers and Seunghyun realized that that was a habit of hers when she got nervous.

“No you shouldn’t have to be sorry at all. Don’t worry I know what you mean, when I first moved in here with my older sister I was depressed from being away from my mom. My noona always called me a ‘mama’s boy’.” Seunghyun told her that little piece of information to make the atmosphere less serious and it worked. Dara let out a small laugh.

“You’re a mama’s boy? You don’t look like it at all.” Dara was still laughing and wondering how a man his size could be a mama’s boy.

“I never considered myself a mama’s boy okay; it was just my friends and noona who did.” Seunghyun ended with a small pout which sent Dara into another fit of laughter and he couldn’t help but smile too hearing her laugh. After she finally stopped laughing Seunghyun looked at the stove and back at her with hopeful eyes. He didn’t know if she made him breakfast since she was mad but Dara smiled and said “grab two plates.” They both set down to eat when the doorbell rang and both of them stopped. Seunghyun wasn’t expecting anyone today, but still went to go open the door. As soon as he opened the door he saw 2 men with different pieces of furniture covered in bubble wrap and boxes.

“Hello, we were sent to deliver this to 11B.”

“I didn’t order anything.” Seunghyun was confused.

“It says here, that the delivery is for a woman named Sandara Park.”

“Oh. Excuse me for one second.” Seunghyun walked back inside and told Dara to come out. As she came out she saw the men and exclaimed “MY STUFF!” The two men smiled at her reaction and told her she had to sign for the delivery. The men soon started to move everything inside the living room, while Seunghyun stood there confused. When the men finished Dara said thank you and gave the two men a very generous tip. When she walked inside she saw the living room full of furniture and a very expression less Seunghyun.

“What happened?”

“When did you order all this?”

“Yesterday, I ordered it online.”

“Where are you gonna put all this?”

“In my room,” Dara thought that was obvious.

“Is it all gonna fit?”

Dara now looked around and realized she might have gotten a little crazy, but assured him that it would, she would make it fit.

“You do realize that you have to put together some of the furniture yourself right?” Seunghyun was now looking at the boxes of different pieces of wood that would somehow form a wardrobe.

“… I was hoping you’d help me.” Dara looked down at her fingers once again and looked up at him after a while with her eyes basically pleading. Seunghyun didn’t have the heart to refuse and felt he this would make up for earlier.

“Fine, but first we should move the readymade furniture to your room so we have more room.” Hearing this Dara looked up and gave him the most breathtaking smile he’d ever seen. He quickly looked away and moved to the small white couch she ordered.

“Alright let’s move this.” Seunghyun and Dara pushed the couch, the lamp, the small bookshelf into her room. Dara stayed inside to figure which furniture goes where, while Seunghyun went to the living room to start fixing her wardrobe. When Dara was satisfied with where she put everything, she walked out to see Seunghyun on the floor with a screwdriver in his hand putting together the different pieces together. She noticed how his mouth slightly stayed open when concentrating, and his eyebrows scrunched together. He looked so focused and she was so distracted by him that she didn’t notice him calling for her help.

“Dara, help me with this… Hey you there? Come help me hold this together.”

“Huh… Oh sorry.” She made her way next to him on the floor and put her hands where he told her to, but she apparently wasn’t putting enough strength down for him to be able to screw in the nuts. He suddenly put his hands on top of hers and pressed down and she let out a small gasp. The sudden skin contact was surprising but Seunghyun didn’t seem to get affected. Dara however, felt a small spark but decided she was just being delusional. He continued to hold down the wood along with her hands until he finished screwing in all the bolts. In no time all the pieces were put together and she had her wardrobe. They pushed it into her room together and she asked him to place it in the corner where it would now stay. Her room finally looked like an actual room and it definitely screamed ‘DARA.’

“We’re done!” Seunghyun said smiling feeling proud of himself and relieved he could rest now.

“Well you are thank you.” Dara once again looked up at him to give him a smile that left him breathless.

“What do you mean? Everything’s done, and your room looks fine.” It was a little too girly for his taste but she was a girl so he didn’t judge.

“I have one more thing I wanted to do, but I can do it myself.” Dara walked over to her bed and pulled out a box from under it.

“What are you gonna do?”

Instead of answering, Dara turned around and showed him a paper full of tiny stickers in the shape of stars.

“These glow in the dark, I’m going to put it on the ceiling over my bed. I had them in my old room and thought it’d make me feel more at home if I had them here.” Dara said this with a small smile on her face while also feeling embarrassed because she knew it was kind of childish but she didn’t care.

“Oh okay. If you need any help just call me.” Seunghyun walked out of the room leaving Dara to her newly decorated room. She got up on her bed but realized she still couldn’t reach the ceiling despite being on her tippy toes. Dara cursed herself for being so short but then saw a small box that she could step on to increase her altitude. She stood on it and began to put them all over the ceiling. Seunghyun entered the room to check up on the progress.

“Hey how’s it going?”

Dara turned, a little startled by his sudden presence and she became unsteady. She began wiggling and Seunghyun rushed forward to keep her from falling but they both ended up on her bed, with her on top of him. Dara had her eyes closed from the fear of falling, when she opened her eyes she saw two of the deepest and darkest eyes she’d ever seen before, and they were staring back at her. They were close, too close. His hands ended up around her body to keep her from getting hurt. Her hands were on his chest and her hair worked as a curtain on both sides of their faces leaving them to only stare at each other. Neither of them knew what stopped them from getting up, but for a while they just stayed in that position. Seunghyun’s embrace didn’t get any looser and Dara’s hands didn’t leave his chest. But then suddenly one of the stars from the ceiling that wasn’t stuck correctly fell onto Dara and they both moved fast. Dara got off of him and moved to the foot of her bed, while Seunghyun sat up near the headboard. She straightened her shirt and ran her fingers through her hair.

“Sorry… I didn’t mean to scare you like that, I just came in here to check how it was going and then you fell and I tried to catch you but we ended up like—yeah…” Seunghyun left the last word hanging and Dara couldn’t help but get hot and red.

“No it’s ok; it’s not your fault. I should’ve been more careful. T-thank y-you for catching me…”

“You’re welcome… Um, the room looks good, especially the stars.” Seunghyun changed the topic and Dara smiled gratefully.

“Thanks. It’s mostly because of you though.”

“I know,” Seunghyun said with a smirk and Dara looked at him with a raised eyebrow.

“I’m kidding,” Seunghyun said while chuckling.

By the time they finished with her room and cleaning the living room, it was 2:00 already and both were hungry.

“I’m too tired to cook…” Dara said while sitting opposite of him on the couch in the living room.

“We could order pizza,” Seunghyun suggested.

“OH YEAH!” Dara got excited at the sound of pizza and Seunghyun laughed at her reaction.

“Okay then, I’ll call. What toppings do you want?”

“Extra cheese and chicken.”

“Okay.”

As he was ordering Dara the T.V. and turned to SBS and found the drama I Hear Your Voice playing and got excited. She loved this drama, she’s been watching it whenever she had a chance in the Philippines and was up to date with the plot. She secretly had a crush on Lee Jongsuk and felt he was an amazing actor. In the midst of the drama, she heard Seunghyun enter the room.

“I am not going to watch a drama while we eat.”

“Why not, it’s a good drama!”

“No it’s not. All these things are so dramatic and fake.” Seunghyun had something against dramas and felt it was a waste of time. Dara on the other hand obviously felt otherwise.

“Well they are called ‘dramas.’ I the T.V. so I get to choose what we watch.” Dara went back to the drama. She didn’t appreciate him disturbing the show.

“Who made up that rule?!” Seunghyun was now standing in front of the T.V. He didn’t like being ignored when he was speaking.

“I did. It only makes sense. Now moveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, I can’t see.” Dara tried to move around him but he caught on and succeeded in blocking the screen.

“This is my T.V. I bought it!”

“That’s not fair!” Dara began to whine, all she wanted to do was watch Park Soo Ha.

“How is that not fair? I bought it; I get to choose what we watch.”

Dara knew he had a point but she still really wanted to watch her drama.

“But Seunghyunnnn, the drama ends in like an hour. You can just watch what you want after an hour.” Dara was now jumping in place becase the commercials would end soon and the drama would continue. Instead of agreeing with Dara, Seunghyun tried to take the remote away from her but she hid it behind her back.

“Give me the remote Dara, I don’t want to watch this,” Seunghyun was trying to respect her personal space and get the remote at the same time. It wasn’t easy.

“But it’ll end in an hour! PLEASE!” Dara was trying to move away from him but she couldn’t.

“Nope! Give it!” Dara was now running away from him around the living room.

“Are you serious? Stop acting like a child.” Seunghyun was now chasing her.

“You’re the one being too stubborn!” They were full out running now. Dara let out a small squeal as she ran for the kitchen with Seunghyun following her. Dara was on one side of the counter while Seunghyun was on the other. They moved from side to side until Seunghyun tricked Dara and finally caught her wrist. However, she moved away and once again brought the remote behind her back.

Screw personal space. The thought went through his head and he grabbed her close to him. Dara once again let out a small squeal at the sudden proximity, but still tried to keep the remote away from him. She looked up at him and gave him an arrogant smile that he ignored and put his arms around her to get the remote. Dara’s arrogance was replaced with shock and now it was Seunghyun with a smirk on his face showing that he was winning, and soon after the struggle Seunghyun had the remote in his hand. He let Dara go and walked away with a smile on his face.

“You !” Seunghyun laughed at this while changing the channel to a soccer game, it was Korea vs Peru.

“You have a laptop; you could just watch the drama later.” Seunghyun told a sulking Dara who was now making her way to the couch again. Dara then took a small pillow that was on the couch and threw it at Seunghyun’s head. It hit him right in the face and Dara toppled over laughing, for once her aim was perfect.

“Yah!” Seunghyun wasn’t mad and Dara knew that and replied by once again, sticking her tongue out at Seunghyun.

“And you say you don’t act like a child.”

“Whatever.” Dara sat there with her arms crossed staring at the T.V.

“If you don’t want to watch it, why are you still sitting here?”

“I’m waiting for the pizza.” Right after the bell rang and Dara ran to the door with the money left on the counter in hand. She entered the room with 2 boxes of pizza and a bottle of soda. She set it down and both began to eat. Dara ended up watching the soccer game with Seunghyun, while occasionally screaming at the players for their stupid mistakes or when the referee didn’t give a warning to the Peruvian players for hurting a Korean player. She had to admit, the game was just as exciting as the drama, but she knew that Lee Jongsuk would always be number one in her heart when it comes to preference.
