Dara arrived in Korea at about 2 pm on a Thursday and was relieved to see no screaming fans, reporters dying to get her to say something to the camera, or anti fans giving her death stares. There was no one there waiting for her and she loved it. Korea, was going to be good, different from the Philippines. She would miss her family, friends, and fans, but she needed to do this for herself. Dara felt as if it was unfair to herself if she continued to work 24 hours a day without a break. In the beginning, singing and performing was something she wanted to do, something she thought would be fun, but that was only because she never thought she’d go this far. Many people call her foolish and stupid for leaving her career when she was at her peak, but those people didn’t know that she often went to sleep crying, that is if she did sleep that day. Those people didn’t know the constant pressure she was under, the dirty ways of the industry. She had to get out and that’s exactly what she did. She left and didn’t turn back.

Coming to Korea after 12 years meant no friends, no family, no one who knew her. It was a new beginning. Dara would live a quiet life, work at a normal job, and live alone where she can finally be independent. A week before her arrival, Dara was called back by a woman named Choi Hye Yoon who let her know that the apartment she would stay at was ready to move in. Cho Hye Yoon owned the apartment with her younger sibling, but was going to move away to live with her new husband. Therefore, the apartment was now left open for rent but would be shared with another person, but Dara did not mind at all. A roommate meant a person that could help her around, it could also mean a new friend.

Dara arrived at her new apartment, which was located in the center of Cheongdamndong, at about 4 pm. She automatically fell in love with her new home. It looked like those condos right out of the magazines. It was clean, big, had a modern feel to it, and at the same time it felt just right. She was told her room would be the one at the right hand side of the house and therefore opened the door to see her room already equipped with a bed and mattress. One whole wall of the room was a glass door that slid open to a balcony that looked over the city. She looked down and saw the tiny creatures that were people, moving in a hurry to get to their next appointment for the day. Her room was pretty big and had enough space for her things. After pulling in her luggage and changing to a more comfortable outfit, she took out a notepad and started listing the things she needed to buy. After a full 3 hours of writing and erasing the things she needed, she went out to the kitchen to get some food and decided to crash early since she was still tired from the flight. She noticed her roommate wasn’t back yet and decided she’d have to greet her tomorrow.

The next morning, Dara woke up at 9 am to get an early start and get used to her surroundings. Leaving her room to take a shower in her tank and pink Pj bottoms, she walked into the bathroom seeing something she did not expect at all. In front of her was a tall tanned man who didn’t have his shirt on. She stopped in her tracks confused and shocked. The man saw her reflection from the mirror and instantly turned around to face her. Dara’s eyes unintentionally went lower and noticed his firm chest, broad shoulder, and much defined 8-pack. When she realized what she was doing, Dara looked back up at the man, who was starting back at her in confusion, and screamed.

“OH !” Dara exclaimed while running out of the bathroom while covering her eyes.

The man, startled by her scream, took a while to snap out of it, but when he did he walked out of the bathroom with his shirt in his hand to find out what was going on.

“Excuse me, but who are you?” The man surprisingly had a very deep voice that would have been very attractive to Dara if she wasn’t in this situation right now, but she couldn’t pay attention to the stranger’s chiseled jawline or voice at this moment. She had to figure out why he was in her house.

“Who am I? Who are you?” Dara emphasized on the last word and turned around to scream again, finding that the man was still shirtless.

“Why are you screaming?” The man was confused.

“Your shirt! Put your shirt on!” Dara stood there in front of the man covering her eyes while screaming at him.

The man looked down and realized what she was getting at and snorted a “please like you weren’t looking a minute ago.”

“You can look now…”

Dara hesitantly uncovered her eyes and looked up to see a now a clothed man. Good… Kind of.

“Now, tell me who are you? Why are you in my house?” The man just wanted to get to the point.

“What do you mean your house? I live here!” Now, Seunghyun was even more confused.

“What the hell are you talking about? I’ve been living here for 5 years; I think I would’ve noticed if you were living here with me.” Now it was Dara’s turn to be confused.

“B-but, I just got this apartment from this woman named Choi Hye Yoon, she said she lived with her younger sister, but was now moving out because she was married.”

“What?! She said she had a sister?!” The man was obviously mad.

“Well she never said sister… but she kept on saying ‘Hyunnie,’ isn’t that a girl?...” Dara was starting to sound more and more less confident.

“No that’s not a girl, it’s me. I’m Seunghyun and I’m her younger brother. Why did she give you this apartment? I already told her I’m living alone.” Dara’s eyes widened at the thought of a male roommate.

“Well she said she thought you couldn’t handle the rent yourself, so that’s why you needed someone to split the rent with; I understand it’s pretty high to pay yourself.” Dara didn’t want to offend the man, but when she looked up she saw him smirk.

“She said I couldn’t pay it myself? What the hell is talking about? Well whatever listen, I can pay it myself, so you need to find another place. This is Seoul; you can find a place to live anywhere.” Dara couldn’t believe what she was hearing.

“Excuse me? I’m not moving anywhere. This apartment belongs to me just as much as it belongs to you, and plus I already paid the deposit so no I’m not finding another place.”

Seunghyun stared back at the small girl who was now standing there crossing her arms staring back at him. He was surprised, no one ever really spoke back to him and won, but this girl didn’t even show a hint of wavering. Seunghyun then suddenly walked to his room leaving the girl standing there in the living room by herself.

“Where the hell is he going? Wait… does that mean I won the argument?” Dara said to herself and couldn’t help but smile at the thought of winning against such a big person. But, when she was about to turn back to her room she heard the man on the phone going “nooonnnnnnnaaaaaaaaaa.”

Dara laughed at his childish behavior but also couldn’t believe that he was telling on her.

“Noona! How can you get me a roommate without even asking me?! I told you I wanted to live alone, and what? I can’t afford the rent myself? Are you high?” Seunghyun couldn’t help but rant.

“YAH! Can you let me speak?!” Hye Yoon screamed through the phone and Seunghyun automatically shut up.

“Thank you. Now listen. I got you a roommate because I was moving down and I knew you’d burn the whole apartment down if I left you alone.” Hye yoon was once again cut off by her brother’s whining.

“Then why didn’t you just stay here with hyung I wouldn’t mind! Or you know get me a guy roommate?”

“You wanna hear me and oppa at night?”

“Oh god no.”

“Exactly, and I was looking for a male but when Dara called me-“

“Who’s Dara?”

“Your roommate you idiot!”

“OH.”

“Stop cutting me off or I’m gonna come over there and personally kick your .”

“Fine! Sorry continue.”

“Thank you. When Dara called me, she sounded really urgent and desperate for the apartment so I felt bad and I gave it to her, plus she had the money ready so how do I say no, and don’t you dare threaten the poor girl into moving or I’m going to kick you out of the apartment.” Seunghyun pouted at his sister’s words and knew he couldn’t really go against them. He accepted the situation and said his goodbyes and walked into the living room. Dara was sitting on the chairs at the kitchen table sipping her orange juice, and Seunghyun couldn’t help but notice how pretty she was. Then suddenly Dara turned around to face Seunghyun.

“So?” Dara looked expectant.

“Yeah, you’re living here…” Dara smiled a beautiful smile revealing her perfect white teeth and eye smile.

“Thank you so much!” Dara was about to walk away when she turned around and said “By the way my name is Sandara Park, but you can call me Dara.” Seunghyun stood there in the living room dumbfounded by her sudden change in behavior, but was distracted by the clock on the wall. It was 9:34.

“! WORK!” Seunghyun ran to his room finally remembering his important meeting that was scheduled first thing that morning.
