Chapter Nine

Even when the Sun Rises

Ya in a good mood today,” Bunny said as I was folding towels in the laundry room where we were to work today.

“Huh? What makes you say that?” Was my dumbfounded response to her statement.

“Well you’re humming aren’t you?”

“I’m humming?”

“Yes, like a little humming bird,” she picked up a pile of towels and placed them into the trolley next to us, “say I wonder what it is.”

“Probably a man,” Keyonce said with jealously in her voice as she came in with her trolley full of used towels. I shook my head.

“That is unlikely Keyonce,” I told her.

“Yeah well either that you’re getting a raise, and we both know that ain’t gonna happen until I get a raise before ya’ll.” Bunny and I nodded because she did have a point.

“Then I’m going to say it’s a man,” Bunny squinted her eyes and pressed her fingers against her forehead.

“Hmm, oh I got it! It’s Rain isn’t it?!”

“What?!” Was mine and Keyonce’s reaction to this; I stared at Bunny gob smacked.

“Y-you think it’s Rain?”

“And even if it is, it ain’t happening,” Keyonce chucked towels into one of the washing machines. She turned to us and folded her arms across her chest.

“Yall know the rules ok? No fraternizing with the guests!”

“But Keyonce,” Bunny started to whine, grabbing onto my arm and yanking it up and down like an upset child trying to get her way, “nobody else is going to know.”

“But Bunny,” I said finally releasing her hands off me, “nothing is happening so chill both of you.” Bunny stamped a foot while Keyonce sighed.
“Oh yeah,” Keyonce finally said after an awkward moment of tension, “Slots you get a day off on Tuesday.”

“Waa lucky,” Bunny hugged me fiercely, “that’s in two days time.”

“Day off, but we never get days off except for annual leave.”

“It’s a new thing Francisco brought in.  If you do an average of forty hours per week then you are allowed one day off every month, I’d spend it wisely,” she added pushing her trolley and leaving me and Bunny to the churning of the washing machine.

“So, what you going to do on your day off?” Bunny asked as she kept folding towels. I thought for a moment, Rain’s voice coming back to my mind.

Want to go and dance sometime?

I don’t have an outfit I realized.

“I’m going to go shopping,” I said out loud. Bunny stared at me.

“Whoa, have you been switched with a dopple ganger? When was the last time you went shopping?”

“Hey I shop, I went….. January,” I mumbled which was about half a year ago.

“Ok better question, what’s the occasion? Cos that time was because your dad was taking you along to a business dinner he had in Nevada.” She was getting to be noisy now.

“Can I tell you when I buy what I need?” I asked her, “I want it to be a surprise.” She pouted for a moment and then gave in.

“Oh alright, but you have to show me it before you have to wear it at least,” she bargained.

“Ok fine,” I smiled at my friend.

“Yay, now I can keep folding,” Bunny cheered dropping more towels in with little care and giggling as they made a funny noise. I had to laugh at my friend’s random but quirky behavior.

I was surprised at how quickly my day off came around. I was slightly sad though, Rain had been going to press meetings and conferences so I saw little of him.

But before I had my day off Rain was being all funny again. He wouldn’t look up when he was talking and he was fiddling.

I sighed as he had trouble making his mind up regarding a drink, “so you still don’t know?”

“What’s moscato?” He asked me.

“It’s a sweet wine, is that what you will have?” I asked him.

“I guess,” I snatched the menu out of his hands.

“Good,” I left in a huff, never thought I would get so grumpy thanks to him.

When I bought the drink back he lifted to his nose, smelt it; took a sip and then placed it back on the table.

“I changed my mind; bring me a red wine please.” I wanted to pour it on his head!

“Sure,” I grinned in front of clenched teeth as I picked up the glass and walked away.

Man he was annoying on that day. I shook my head to clear my mind. I was at the shops and only had one mission; to find an outfit for clubbing.

Wait why am I doing this? I remembered his ex-girlfriend, the one he isn’t with but seems to still like.

Gee he’s a strange guy I thought as I entered a store that seemed promising. After being in about ten others I guess I had nothing to lose.

“Hi can I help you?” A shop attendant asked the moment I stepped inside.

“Hi, I’m looking for an outfit; I haven’t been out in a while and want something simple.” Hey eyes went up and down me.

“Well you’ve come to the right place,” she said, “come with me.” I followed her around the store as she grabbed pants, shirts, dresses and handing them to me. After four outfits were picked she showed me to a dressing room.

“Come out and show me when you’re done,” she beamed as she closed the door.

The first item was pants and a tube. They were alright, I suppose.

“OMG you have such a lovely shape I am jealous,” was her reaction when I showed her. She pointed me to the mirror.

“It fits you nicely but, I don’t know… What is your opinion on it?” I didn’t think it was me.

“Umm…..”

“You’re right, ok next.” After another pants and shirt combination there was a red dress. I didn’t realize how revealing it was until it was on my body.

“Oh wow even in that you look hot,” was my assistant’s reaction. I raised my eyebrows at myself. I was showing so much of my s.

“Uh I don’t like,” I said folding my arms across my chest to try and hide some of the showing skin.

“Ok then, onto the last one, I think you’ll like that one the best,” she winked and closed the door. After I had taken off the dress my eyes were drawn to the outfit. I hadn’t seen it before and it was much simpler than the others. I put it on and had to stare.

“Are you ready?” She interrupted my thoughts. I opened the door and turned around. Her eyes were literally coming out of her head.

“OMG, wow you look… Waay better in that than any of the other things,” was her response, “I would go with this.” I turned to look at myself in the mirror. It wasn’t like what I normally wore but it was a nice change I was happy with.

“I’ll take it,” I hoped that I wouldn’t change my mind as soon as I walked out of the door.
