4. This is not part of my duties!

Even when the Sun Rises

The next morning at eight I was woken by the vibrating of the transmitter going off beside my bed and when I say vibrate I don’t mean like your phone vibrate. I’m talking a full on massaging chair vibration that I could feel my bed shaking slightly. Usually I had to get up at five so to sleep in was a relief but I  still had trouble finding the transmitter to turn the buzzing off.

I ran a shower, jumped in nearly scalding myself, got out and dressed and hurried to the kitchen. I grabbed a slab of toast and hurried back up to Rain’s suite. I finished chewing the toast and knocked. A rather sleepy looking Ji Hoon appeared, leaning in the doorway.

“Morning,” I said.

His mouth stretched open in a yawn, “morning."

“So what can I bring for you this morning?” I asked.

“Could you please tell me what time breakfast starts?” He had to be joking.

“It umm started half an hour ago,” I told him. “So you can go down now.” He nodded and stepped out of the door placing his key card in his pocket.

“Thank you,” he said and then started walking to the lift. I stared at the closing door of his suite and then at him going to the lift.

“Um, excuse me. Sorry to be rude Rain.”

“Ji Hoon.”

“Ah yes sorry Ji Hoon. Umm was that what you called me for?” He pressed the down button, leaning against the space above it.

“Is it wrong to ask for help Sam?” Wow for the first time he used my actual name. I wasn’t used to hear it being said by a stranger.

“Ah well umm,” he had a point. The lift beeped and the door opened. He held his arms out suggesting I get in first. I walked in and then heard him follow. As we stood in the lift with the doors open still he stared at the buttons in thought. I watched as one of his long fingers pressed the B. “What are you doing?” I asked.

“B is for breakfast, right?” He looked so cute being confused I wish I had a camera.

“Um that would be the basement,” I told him pressing the button myself but it would not un-light.

“Ok, what about this one?” He pressed the one marked G.

“The lobby or ground floor.”

“Then which one is it?” He asked starting to sound frustrated as the doors closed.

“Excuse me for a moment,” I said stepping forward and pressing the number two button. “We cater all of our dining services on level two.” I stumbled as the lift abruptly moved. We were going down. I spread a hand out accidentally pressing most of the buttons.

“Is Sam ok?” He asked as I regained my balance.

“Yes she is.” When I'd stopped nodding I found myself staring at him. He did the same to me. We were saved of the awkwardness when the lift beeped and the doors opened. We finally arrived on the second level and I took him to the dining area where breakfast was being served. He slumped into a seat and I handed him a menu. “So do you have in mind what you would like to start with?” I asked taking out the paper and pen.

“Coffee please,” he said handing the menu back to me. I pursed my lips for a moment.

“Umm could you please be more specific?” He tilted his head at me. He had no clue what I meant. “Sorry, what I meant was would you like it with just milk or by itself, sugar?” I elaborated.

“By itself please,” he said his eyes now puppy dog ones. I nodded and went to the kitchen with the order. It took about five minutes but when it was ready I bought it to him in a mug. He stared at the mug for a moment, not touching it. I tapped the end of the pen on the edge of the pad of paper. He then came back to earth.
“Could you please bring me some tea?” It was my turn to be confused.

“ You now want tea? But you asked for a coffee.”

“I might change my mind and want tea,” he explained. “normal with one sugar please.” I jotted this down and went to the kitchen. The barista nearly flung a crumpet at me and said my client was a strange person. I admit he was right.

That wasn’t the only weird thing he got me doing. “You want me to tell you which suit looks better?” I asked him after I had delieved his lunch to his room. He nodded.

“Yes,” he held them up to show me, “the grey one or the white one?” I couldn’t pick they were both nice.

“Why are you asking me?” I exclaimed, my arms out in surrender, “they both look fine to me.”

Then there was the thing that soon followed. I watched him as he walked to his suitcase and got something out of a plastic bag. He came back and unfolded the item. It was a women’s shirt. “Put this on.” I blinked at him. He nodded and then handed it to me. I the fabric, soft to touch and a pale cream colour. I then noticed he was watching me.

‘W-wha? You mean now?”

“Yes,” I shook my head.

“No, not here!” Was my answer as I peered around for some help, I saw the bathroom and darted for it. I closed the door and took a deep breath. Even his bathroom was clean! I put the shirt on and then with caution stepped outside, to my horror he had been waiting. He eyed it up and down, taking time to stare at one region. I folded my arms a cross my chest in case he was ying.

“Hmm,” he came up to me, glancing at my back, my shoulders and my arms. He then stood behind me; I saw the shadows of his arms appear close to me. He had his hands on the fabric on the sides of my waist before I was even able to protest. “Needs to be loose here,” he said pulling at it gently. His thumbs brushed the edge of my bra. My cheeks reddened. He let go and came back around to the front. He was thinking aloud now, in Korean.

“Fits fine at the front and back,” he commented. “But must remember, Korean women shorter than Sam.” I didn’t know whether to be embarrassed or flattered but I was glad to be off with the shirt and back with my blouse. “Thank you Sam,” he told me. “I will let you know when I am ready for dinner.” I bowed to him.

“Yes Mr Ju--…Ji Hoon.” I said making my leave.

That was not the only strange thing he got me to do.  I was asked to taste rice, recommend ways of greeting people and whether the tie he was wearing did not match his suit. I even had to bring him both a piece of cheese cake and a brownie because he did not know what he wanted. ‘Wow Slots,” Bunny told me as we were getting ready for bed at the end of the week, “he seems like an interesting character.”

“Oh he is,” I agreed, “he actually has a better sense in fashion than me. Has trouble making up his mind but other than that he is rather shy and kind and…”

“Whoa Slots, you know what I think?” Bunny said wiping her face with a towel. I shook my head while I flossed. “I think you might actually have a crush on him.” I managed to cut my gum.

“Huh? Umm Monique, are you sure?” I asked placing my tongue where it was bleeding. I usually call her either Monique or Bunny.

“Yeah, the way you speak about him sounds like you are hiding feelings for him.” I scoffed.

“Yeah what else is new?”

“What are you two yapping about in here?” Uh oh Keyonce was on her night patrol which she usually did half an hour before curfew. I gotta say, she can be intimidating without even moving much.

“Um nothing,” I said as me and Bunny both came out of the bathroom.

“Really?” Keyonce had her hands on her hips.

“Well I thought that you were talking about fraternising with the guests.” I let myself swallow.

“Don’t forget that, cahooting with the guests is an instant pink slip,” she slammed a clenched fist into her open palm, “understood?” We nodded.

“Good, then nighty both of yous, don’t be late for work!” With that she slammed the door shut.

“ Phew glad she’s gone,” Bunny said as she walked over to her bed, “don’t let her get to you ok Sam?” She only called me Sam when something mean happened to me.

“Yeah I won’t,” I said climbing into bed, “you don’t have to worry about me. I won’t let myself fall for any of our guests.”

No matter how cute they are.
