Chapter Twenty Three

Even when the Sun Rises

I was nervous all of the day before. It didn’t help that I didn’t get to see Rain as much as I would have liked to, he was so busy with practice that I barely got a hi from him. But I guess that’s what happens when your boyfriend is famous.

Huh? Did I just call him my boyfriend? Whoa that was unexpected of me, we weren’t even going out.

But… He did say that he loved me, right but I hadn’t said it back. But how do I say it with as much meaning as I can? The only people I’ve said that too was my dad, Bunny and my mum…

I got an idea when I saw Rain’s translator sitting in the restaurant, drinking a glass of wine.

“Excuse me Mr. Park,” I said lowering my voice in case any work colleagues could hear, “I was wondering if you could help me out with something?” He put down his glass of wine.

“What is it?” He asked simply. I breathed out figuring out in my mind how I was going to ask it.

“How do you say I love you in Korean?” He took a double glance but a rather sly smile came across his face.

“You are hoping to say it to someone in particular?” Uh oh he was on to me.

“No umm I was watching a television show and one of the characters said it,” I lied heating up, “but there were no subs for that part so I didn’t…”

“You don’t have to lie I won’t say anything,” I froze. He put on his glasses, pushing them up his nose.

“You would say the informal way,” he began, “it is pronounced Sa-rang-hae.” I nodded before saying it softly.

“Sa-rang-hae.”

“You say it without the pauses.”

“Oh right,” I blinked, “Saranghae.” He nodded.

“Good, now you know it, but make sure you practice it,” he added sipping more of his wine.

“Thank you,” I left after that, making sure I remembered it.

I retreated to my room around nine thirty that night. I stood by our small balcony while I removed my apron. Someone knocked.

“Is that you Bunny?” I asked as the door opened and her heels clacked along the floor.

“Yes, I have an hours break before I start work again,” she said opening the fridge and taking out a block of chocolate. She broke a large piece off and started chewing, she held the bar to me, “you want any? It’s Cadbury.” I took a smaller bit.

“Thanks,” I said eating mine as she closed the fridge.

“So I got a message from Rain to you,” I nearly choked on the chocolate.

“Ah, what is it?” I asked as she came over to me.

“He said, midnight tonight, the usual place, JiHoon,” she wet her lips, “I wasn’t sure about it when he said JiHoon, because I don’t know any…”

“Monique, it’s his real name,” I said laughing, “Surely you aren’t that dim.”

“It’s his name? But then what is Rain?”

“Rain is just his stage name,” I added going to the pantry and taking out a packet of pasta, “his real name is Jung JiHoon.” Bunny had this puzzled expression for a minute while I was laughing until she said, “ah,” and then laughed along with me. Gee she really is a blonde sometimes, no offense.

***

At quarter to twelve I left our suite with my small dance bag and the key to open it up. I went down the stairs to the dining area. Rain was already there leaning against the door, in grey baggy track pants and a black t-shirt that was tight around his chest. He grinned as he recognized me. I went towards the door but he swept me up in a hug, lifting me up off the floor.

“What are you doing?” I asked in a low voice, bashful when he put me down.

“I have wanted to do that for a while,” he was so innocent how could anyone stay mad at him?

“I bet,” I said grinning back, “We haven’t really seen each other for the whole day.” Rain nodded eagerly.

“Yep, a day without Sam is like a day without rain,” I smirked at his cheesy line.

“You are quite a romantic aren’t you?”

“No not really,” he shook his head shyly, “I am very quiet around women I like. To me I’m being noisy.” I laughed.

“Right then, let’s go in before we are caught making a racquet,” I joked unlocking the door.

***

When we got in there Rain bounded on to the stage, doing a ripple movement with his body.

“What is that?” I asked watching him as he continued to do more of the funny actions.

“This is how I warm up,” he swung his shoulder from side to side while I stretched on the floor.

“As if,” I laughed standing upright while he let his feet slide from underneath him so he sat on the edge of the stage. I hid a giggle when he winced, that would have hurt. He patted the stage on his left. I walked up and sat down next to him. I watched him while we swung our legs in synch.

“So did you talk to the policeman?” He asked.

“Yes, we are getting Bunny to serve Curtis Patrick and we will put a microphone on her so that when he says something incriminating then we have our proof.” I saw his face darken.

“I thought I told you about revenge.”

“It isn’t revenge,” I argued, but Rain’s expression remained unchanged. I sighed.

“It is the last thing I want to do, when it comes to him,” I added, “and then… Then I can move on.”

“Is that so?” I gaped before looking at Rain, I lowered my head.

“Having him brought to justice… Won’t bring my mother back,” I blinked, my eyes starting to blur, “but I want to stop him, before he steals or kills someone else.” Rain leaned back in his position while I wiped my eyes. I looked over at him.

“You are leaving soon,” this tasted bitter to say, “What do you think you will miss about the place?”

“Not what,” he ruffled his hair, “but who.” Silence came over us for a moment, I breathed in and out.

“Well you are always welcome back, I won’t be going anywhere.”

“Why are you going to stay here?” His question caught me off guard.

“Don’t waste your life Sam,” he played with his hands in front of him, “do something you love. Do what you love. Dance,” I bit the edge of my lip, he was right, like he had been before.

“Do you reckon I can?” He moved his head up, “of course,” his sincerity moved me. I decided to change the subject.

“Are you nervous about tomorrow?” I asked to this he nodded.

“Yes, but it’s not about the dancing.” He lifted a hand onto my shoulder.

“It’s about you, I’m worried… You could get hurt.” I smiled with my mouth closed putting a hand against his cheek.

“Don’t worry about me,” I said gently, “I’ll be fine. Just concentrate on what you’ll be doing up on stage tomorrow night.” He nodded moving his hand off my shoulder to my hand on his face. He lowered my hand and slid off the edge.

“Hold on one minute,” he fumbled through his bag to grab a CD and he went to the sound system. He opened it and slid the disk in. He pressed a few buttons before running back on to the stage, doing an army roll.

“Get into position,” he said standing ready, I recognized the tune and then went to the side. The music started booming and he danced. I waited keeping time in my head, waiting for his cue. The cue was made and I entered. We danced in time to each other and the music, me moving accordingly as well as moving away for Rain’s solo and then back in to the end. We stopped, both of us panting our eyes interlocked as the music died out. When we realized that we were staring we both moved. I hopped off the stage to grab a drink while Rain went to retrieve his CD.

“We should finish up,” he told me, “it’s late.” I nodded.

“Mm, you and I both need our rest,” I agreed, waiting for him to pack his bag. He tipped the water bottle over his head, drenching his head and spraying droplets on me. I laughed as he shook his head like a dog. He then quickly ran over and grabbed me around the waist, rubbing his damp hair on my shirt.

“JiHoon,” I shrieked, pushing at him while he still clung onto me, I lost my balance and we fell over. We both groaned when we landed, he removed his arms and sat up giving me a hand too. He smirked and I started to laugh and he did to. I wish that this moment didn’t have to end

(The end is not far guys T_T. Only a few chapters left before Even When the Sun Rises is over. Thanks for sticking with me this far. )
