Chapter Fourteen

Even when the Sun Rises

Tonight was once again a sleepless night. I just sat up in my bed staring out at the sky. It was just like it had been the night before. It was a cruel reminder of what I had done.

I had hurt him, it was true. I must like him.

When I finally got some sleep I woke from the early morning light. The sun had yet to rise but I decided that I would go and see it.

The last time I did was the morning after my mums’ death.

I went through my clothes trying to find something to wear. I stared at a yellow dress. It had a draw string top that tied in a halter neck and a band of white elastic around the waist. I shrugged and put it on. It sat on me similar to the dress I had on that night, but it didn’t cling to my thighs or my legs.

I grabbed a pair of slip on sneakers and left, careful to gently shut the door behind me.

I found the stairs which led up to the roof. I peered around, watching for signs of movement. I breathed out in relief as I opened the door and went up them, closing it carefully behind me.

I came up onto the roof, the view rather spectacular. Nobody was meant to be up here but that didn’t stop me. No one had caught me yet and I wanted to keep it that way.

I wrapped my arms around myself, it was cold for a summer morning. I heard footsteps from behind. I froze not knowing what to do.

Oh crap someone knows I’m here! Taking a deep breath, I counted down from three to one in preparation to face whoever had found me.

Three, the footsteps were still the only sound except for the early morning traffic.

Two, I wonder why they didn’t call out or say anything yet.

One, I turned around, my hair and skirt spinning as I did. I stopped short. I knew who it was. It wasn’t a staff member that’s for sure. From the distance that was closing in on us I could see who it was.

Rain, how did he find me?

He looked good in his white trousers and grey v-neck shirt. He came up to me and stopped, his face was hard to read. I lifted my head up.

“W-what are you doing here?” I asked.

“Why are you here?” Was his question back at me, I went back to looking at the view, turning one of my feet.

“Thinking,” I said simply. I turned back to him. He seemed solemn for some reason.

“Sorry.”

“For what?” I asked confused, worried I had done more damage than I realized.

“I left you alone that night,” he said. It took me a moment to figure out what he meant.

“Oh um,” I pushed hair behind my ears, “you don’t have to apologize.”

“I was hurt by what you said and so I left,” he said his mouth still down turned, “I didn’t act very honorably.” I shook my head cutting him off there.

“No,” I took a deep breath, “I should be the one who says sorry,” I wet my lips, unable to remove the miserable expression I think I was wearing, “I… I was dumb to have said such a thing… You were right about Curtis Patrick... I should try to forgive him. I also hate…” Do I even say it? “How things are between us.” I added.

What have I been smoking? Why did I even say such a thing?

“I know,” I looked at him, the gaze in his eyes different from normal. Not from hurt or anger but from something else.

What is on his mind? My eyes wandered and I glimpsed his hand where the fingers were digging their way into the pocket of his trousers. The silver was gone.

“Your ring,” I gasped, covering my mouth, his eyes widened slightly.

“Sorry, pretend I didn’t say that.” I said embarrassed. He took his hand out of his pocket, staring at his digits. He lowered his hand down and it hung by his side.

“Did you lose it?” I asked, my inquisitiveness getting the better of me. That gaze was back in his eyes as he shook his head, his mouth starting to form what looked to be a slight smile.

“I sent it back to her.” My mouth opened. I shut it fast.

“Rain….” I was stunned, “why would you do that? I thought you still loved her.”

“I know she has moved on and for me holding on to it would have been silly,” he shook his head as he told me this. I blinked from my confusion.

“Because I want to move on to other things in life,” he said that gaze seeming to be stronger than before. I closed my mouth to prevent me from interrupting him and waiting for him to continue.

“I want to be with someone who I really like.” He began taking a step closer to me; I was frozen in my spot.

“That person I like… Is Sam,” I almost didn’t catch what he said.

What? Did he just say that he liked me?

“Rain I don’t know what to say…”

“Even when the sun rises, JiHoon is still not good around the woman he likes,” he said, “which is why I may have been friendly and unfriendly sometimes.” I nodded understanding it now. He wasn’t really being rude; he just found it hard with me at those times.

“Sam,” he lowered his head to peer at me closely, “Sam do you… Like me?” I lifted my head; his eyes wavering, as if he was afraid that my answer wouldn’t correspond with him. For the first time that morning I smiled.

“Yes, I do.” He came closer to me; his arms went around me and pulled me into his hug. I lost my breath for a moment; the moment almost too good to be true.

“I’m glad,” he said, his hands pressing against my back softly. I buried my face into his shoulder happily putting my hands against his shoulder blades, clutching small segments of the fabric. While we stood there I heard him start to sing. I liked his voice; it was rough but gentle at the same time. I lifted my head up.

“What are you singing?” I asked puzzled when I didn’t understand what it was.

“Oh, I must be singing it the normal way,” he chuckled, his warm breath tickling my shoulder. He then started to sing it again but in English.

“I do I do.These words say I'll be with you forever, I do
Whenever I'm with you, carefully in my heart,
I do I do wanna spend my life with you,
I dream "I do" swear these precious words to you
I'm with you and you are beside me
.” I smiled at the words; it was as if that song had been written for me at that exact moment.
“It’s called I do,” he said to me stopping for a bit, “I am reminded of it when I am with you.” I nodded, the smile getting bigger. He ended up singing the whole song from beginning to end, but I didn’t care.

(Hope u liked either the eye candy or the chapter ;) Oh yeah this is the song that he sings! Listen to it and to his other songs too! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gk8FOvo3sQE)
