They had travelled for as long as they could remember, yet they still hadn’t reached their destination.

“How much longer until we reach Midgar Edge?” Chanyeol grumbled after taking a long sip of water.

“It won’t be much longer I hope… we just need to reach the cargo ship first,” Kris answered to the other boy, his eyes looking in the distance of mountains and plains surrounding them.

“Do you think there will be the cure to the stigma there?” Chanyeol asked again, glancing discreetly at his left arm, stained with black patches of what seemed like a scorch, but it was actually so much more than that.

“They must have it.” Kris turned to look at the younger, who was intently staring at his stigma, his face solemn, different from the bright grin Kris had seen in the past. Chanyeol had been so positive that he’d be healed as they went on their journey, which was the reason why it was weird to see him looking almost… hopeless.

“Chanyeol-ah.” Kris came closer to him, his back gently. “What’s wrong?”

“I… I’m just afraid,” he muttered under his breath, glistening tears threatening to fall from his wide eyes.

“No… you shouldn’t…” Kris wanted to hold his hand, but his good hand was far from his reach, so he settled on Chanyeol’s shoulder. “Well, like I told you, everything will be fine. We will cure you immediately, and you are not going to die from the stigma. Is that clear?”

Chanyeol dared himself to look at Kris in the eye, even though he didn’t want the elder see his tears, he let him. Kris reached out to wipe the tears that had fallen on his cheek, and Chanyeol felt warmth inside him. His lips slowly stretched out in a small smile, and he could see that Kris also smiled at him, making Chanyeol feel even warmer. He felt like he found another motivation to keep striving to find his cure.

He just couldn’t be any more thankful to have a companion like Kris.
