He opened his eyes, only to find himself in the middle of misty ground.

Kris couldn’t see anything else beyond the haze, and he could make a guess the sky was dark, because if there were any lights around, he surely would’ve caught some glimpse of anything among the thick haze.

But then he really did catch a glimpse of something; a black shadow moving in the corner of his eyes. He saw the shadow moving further from him as seconds went by, and he wondered if he made a wrong guess.

Then he thought he shouldn’t even make a fuss about the weather because he didn’t even know where he was, or why, or how he would be here at all.

So he had an idea that maybe this shadow would lead him to his answer. (Or his exit.)

The shadow was running on two feet, not to mention it (or maybe he? Maybe she?) moved on a fast pace. Kris didn’t think he’d have problem catching up with his long legs and all, but he did. The shadow itself didn’t show any sign of stopping, and it didn’t take long for Kris to realize his huffing and puffing was heard more frequent as he tried to keep running after the shadow.

And his effort finally brought him closer to the shadow. He caught the figure’s shoulder, turning him around as he looked at the person’s face.

And suddenly the mist around him was gone, and he swore the person’s face was the reason it happened, because it shined really brightly that Kris had to squint to look at the person. The face showed a gentle but bright smile, and Kris wondered if this person was an angel, because he had never seen anyone smile so beautifully like this one. He almost felt like he was blessed after just seeing the smile.

At least he had something beautiful to see before his vision turned into black.
