Bye Bye Burden
Hysterie
“One night two days,” murmured Hoya.
“One night two days,” I repeated.
“1N2D?” Hoya said, cocking his head to the left. I nodded and whispered, “1N2D.”
Hoya narrowed his eyes and I followed. He sighed and so did I.
“Yah!” he exclaimed. “We’re not in kindergarten!”
I giggled and smiled. “Hoya….” We exchanged glances and finally, he nodded. “Fine.”
I squealed and hugged him and closed my eyes when he hugged me back. The last minute plan that I had decided to take up on had been a good decision. I was already feeling refreshed from the excitement of our trip and after pulling apart, we headed towards our rooms.
“Why are you smiling?” mused Jae Hyo. My grin turned into a sad smile. The trip, I thought. The trip will relieve me of this burden, make it easier for me to make a decision.
“Nothing,” I sighed and whistled while rummaging through my cupboard. My phone lit and I read the message Hoya sent me.
“I’ve already started packing. You?”
I bit my lip to stifle a grin and replied.

“Woah… you’re too excited. I’m scared.”
I chuckled and shook my head. As I stuffed my duffel bag with comfortable khakis and shirts, my mind rewound to five minutes back.
“Hoya sshi….”
I turned around and saw Saya peeking from behind the pillar and waving her finger. Come here, she mouthed. I raised an eyebrow and looked behind me. Jae Hyo was talking to Ji Hyun while Kairi was rehearsing her play lines by herself.
Without any question, I followed Saya as she sneakingly scurried out of the room.
“What happened?” I asked. The moment she turned around, my eyes widened. Saya’s face had become paler than usual, her eyes were puffy and her lips were dry.
“Yah,” I hissed. “You’re getting married in a week, the house is as busy as a beehive… and you’re looking sick! Did something happen?” I touched my palm against her forehead and was confused by the normality of her temperature.
Saya her lips and sighed. There was exhaustion and something else in her voice. A something else I hadn’t heard in a long time.
“I want a favor from you,” she mumbled, already sounding guilty. I placed my hand on her head and said, “It’s me. Come on, speak up.”
Saya took a deep breath and I braced for Tornado Saya.
“I’m just!” Though she was talking in a whisper, the irritation in her tone was evident. “I know exactly what I want to do but I’m still stuck upon what I SHOULD do. I mean, Jae Hyo makes me happy and yet I question whether what I want to do is worth doing since I might not be worthy of the kind of happiness it would give me!”
“Is this about Woohyun?”
Saya nodded and I removed my hand from her head. “What do you want from me?”
Saya gulped and with a sheepish smile said, “I want to run away.”
“WHAT??” Saya pressed her hand against my mouth and I stared at her small face with shock. “Wh-what did you…”
“Not like that Hoya! I’m crazy, not a home-wrecker!” Saya removed her hand and sighed. Her shoulders deflated and I gave her an encouraging smile, despite the surprise still running through my veins.
“Whenever I was with you,” she started, reminiscence shining in her eyes. “I used to feel like I could do anything. It was a feeling I shared with Woohyun too, except that with you, I was at a level more comfortable. Surprising, right? But lately I haven’t spent much time with you and all these problems in my head… The solution is right before me but I need you Hoya. Kairi is a good friend, she really is. But you’re you. And I need my best friend back.”
I blinked at her. Even after all these years, she hadn’t forgotten the depth of our friendship. The words warmed me and I considered her offer. “So you want to go on a trip?”
“One night two days,” she answered.
“Where are you going?”
I jumped out of my skin and turned around. Kairi stared at my duffel bag and furrowed her eyebrows. “Where are you going?” she repeated.
I plastered a smile on my face and kissed her forehead. “I’m not allowed to tell.”
Kairi gasped. “It’s Jae Hyo’s bachelor party, right? You’ve already planned it!”
I blinked at her and bit my lip. Well…. Why not?
“It’s nothing cheap!” I shrugged. “You know Jae Hyo, you know me. The two of us had planned to go on a trip anyway, so why not now? Just don’t let Jae Hyo know you know, okay?”
I felt the phone vibrate in my pockets and I knew what the text would say.

“You know Kairi,” I smiled at Jae Hyo. “You know me. The two of us had planned to go on a trip anyway, so why not now? Just don’t let Kairi know you know, okay?”
Jae Hyo nodded and looked out of the window. Finally he grinned. I sighed in relief. “Just don’t get into trouble,” he teased. I tried to laugh but nothing came out. The suffocation of it motivated me even more and I zipped my backpack.
“I’ll just freshen up okay?” Jae Hyo said. I nodded and sat by the bed. Once the door locked, I quickly opened his drawer and tore open a page from his diary.
“I’m sorry Jae Hyo, this is the first time I’ve ever lied to you. Trust me, this is for good. I’ll be back in two days, we still have a lot to talk about. Love, Saya.”
I glanced at my phone and unlocked the screen as I received another text.
“Come on Robin, we’ve got lives to save.”
I smiled and nodded to myself. Before running out of the door, I gave Jae Hyo’s side of the bed one last look. “Sorry,” I whispered.
“Ready?” Hoya murmured. I tiptoed down the staircases and nodded, catching hold of his arm when my clumsiness threatened to trip me. “I’m just blindly following you Saya,” he said.
“Do you regret it?” I whispered. Hoya straightened his back and grinned. “Are you kidding me? We’re the YaYa couple, we can go crazy whenever we want! Damn the world!”
I giggled under my breath and was hushed by Hoya, making him giggle too. Slowly, the two of us walked towards the door, the darkness of the night making us even more excited. Wait, I motioned to Hoya and pointed at the drawer. Keys, I mouthed and he nodded. As I rummaged through the bills, I finally found the key to the jeep and smiled.
“Gotcha!” I grinned.
“Um, Saya,” Hoya said. I was focused on closing the drawer without making any noise and nodded. “What?”
“Does Yoseob know about our plan?”
I froze. My head turned around and the two of us watched as sleepy Yoseob rubbed his eyes and glanced at us. His eyes widened and he pointed at the two of us.
“You…” he stuttered. “Saya…Hoya…”
“Yoseob-ah..” I cooed. “Don’t say anything, please…”
“GUYS!” he shouted. “HEY! EVERYONE WAKE UP!"
“!” Hoya spat and grabbed my hand. “Come on Saya, run!” As we jumped into the jeep and revved up the engine, I took one look at the house whose open windows were filled with new chaos.
“I’m doing right, right?” I murmured. Hoya looked at me and with his free hand, patted mine. “Smile,” he said. “When was the last time you felt this free?”
I looked at Hoya as he stared straight ahead, navigating us to nowhere. I was already feeling better.
