A New Friendship
Jongkey: Since the Jurassic Period
So I’ve been working at this boring-as-hell museum for about three weeks now. And every single day, without fail, I see that same boy standing in front of that same T-Rex skeleton. And today, I’ve decided to speak to him.
“Yah.”
No response.
“Hey.”
No response.
“YAH, YOU CREEPY IDIOT!"
He finally looked in my direction. Upon having a closer look, his eyes were pretty but dazed. “…Oh. Yes?” He said.
“Why do you keep on standing here every single day?” I asked. “Are you some weirdo or something?”
“Oh… No, I just thought this dinosaur skeleton was cool.”
“Well, you’re seriously freaking me out,” I sighed. “What’s your name?”
“Kim Jonghyun. You?” He smiled now, facing me.
“Kim? I’m Kim Kibum. What’s it to you?”
His smile disappeared and he became wide-eyed. “Oh, uhm… Nothing...”
“YAH!” A shout came out from behind, scaring the both of us.
“KIM KIBUM! Slacking off during work now, are you? As punishment, go sweep outside in the heat! And take your friend with you!”
“What? What frien—"
Before I knew it, we were both outside.
Jonghyun looked up and sighed. “Is this the kind of reality you wanted?”
“It’s not my fault we were kicked out,” I replied while sweeping imaginary dust.
After a while, Jonghyun started humming a little tune.
I looked at him intently. “What are you singing?” I asked, trying to start a conversation.
“Oh, it’s a little something I wrote.” He smiled again.
I stopped sweeping. “What.” I said, surprised. “You write songs?”
“Yeah,” he answered. “This one’s called Juliette.” He proceeded to sing the song to me.
Juliette~ Oh! Yeonghoneul bachilkkeyo
Juliette~ Oh! jebal nal bada jwoyo
Juliette~Oh! dalkomhi jom deo dalkomhage
Soksagyeo naui serenade~
I was shocked. His singing was flawless. The lyrics were amazing. This person standing in front of me just made my life seem meaningless in less than twenty seconds.
“Hey, are you OK?” I realized he was standing closer to me.
“Oh. Uh, yeah,” I stepped back. “So…Are you becoming a singer?” I started sweeping again.
“I guess. SM is having they’re auditions in less than a week…” he muttered, looking at the sky again.
“You…You are auditioning for SM too?”
“Oh? You are too?”
“That’s what I was asking you, idiot.”
“Haha. I am. So… Good luck to the both of us?” He smiled, and held out his fist.
I hesitated. “What if I’m not good enough?” I thought. “What if I don’t make the cut? Especially next to this guy…” I looked at his eyes. They were sparkling now. “No…I can do this. I am Kim Kibum.”
I looked at him in the eye and fist bumped the boy named Kim Jonghyun.
