Sungjong's Past

Dark Streets of Seoul

“Hyung, I don’t get it.  Why aren’t you sending me with Woohyun?  Me and him are a team!” Sungjong argued to T.O.P when he heard the news that Woohyun would be travelling to Japan alone to take down a rival mob.

“You’re staying here and that’s final,” T.O.P said angrily as he waved a hand, dismissing the young boy.

Sungjong went to the prep room and saw Woohyun looking at the vast selection of weapons stored in a locked vault. He turned to the younger boy with a hopeful smile but it was vanquished when he saw Sungjong’s pout.

“I tried,” Sungjong said, “But he won’t relent.”

“Well this is stupid,” Woohyun threw a knife down on the table where it stuck to the wooden surface.  We work the best together! We’re ing NamJong!  We’ve killed hundreds of people, wiped out dozens of mobs and can kill any police force that gets in our way!”

Sungjong frowned as he sat down at the table, “It doesn’t make sense.”

Woohyun shrugged as he sat down, “I think it might have to do with me being tailed.”

            Sungjong’s eyes widened, “What?”

“There’s been someone following me lately.  I don’t know who he works for or I would’ve killed him already.  I don’t know if he’s a threat but maybe T.O.P doesn’t want him to know that you’re working with me.”

“When do you leave?” Sungjong couldn’t look Woohyun in the eyes.  They had grown up together.  They had trained together under T.O.P.  They had gone through many hardships and had become each other’s other half.  So dependent on one another they had become.  This would be the first time that they would be separated for more than a week.  Sure they had gone on solo missions, but never one that would take months.

“I have to leave tonight if I want Hyun Joong’s murder to go unnoticed.”  Woohyun was looking at his gun.

“Come back in once piece okay?” Sungjong got up from his chair and left without looking back.  For the first time in his life, he felt tears work their way down his cheeks.

Sungjong loaded his gun as he left the warehouse.  For weeks, Sungjong had been stuck in the warehouse under T.O.P’s watchful eye while Woohyun was probably being tortured by Hoya.  Sungjong remembered when he heard the news that Woohyun had been captured by a nobody.  As soon as he heard the news, he had wanted to rescue Woohyun and then kill the man who had captured him, but T.O.P refused to let him leave the warehouse.  Sungjong had been so furious that he’d even shot one of T.O.P’s men in a blind rage.

But now T.O.P was presumed dead.  Fallen into a river from a deadly height.  The bullet wound he’d received in his stomach didn’t increase his chances of living either.  But Sungjong knew T.O.P.  The man was probably still kicking it as he went along the river.  Sungjong snared just thinking about it.  He would rescue T.O.P as soon as Woohyun was safe.

Sungjong was surprised at how easy it was to slip through the gates of the mansion that also served as a top security headquarter for the more infamous and violent criminals.  It was an underground prison, meaning whatever happened to the prisoners would be a secret from everyone except the people allowed past the gates.

“Shoot him, Seungho!” Sungjong turned as he heard someone come down the hall.  Sungjong had entered the mansion easily enough but he was unprepared for all the guards that were inside.  He had the initial element of surprise and had killed five men within the first two minutes of his entrance but now they were surrounding him.

He had a pistol held up to the head of a black haired man.

“Shoot him now Seungho!” the man said again. He had appeared down a hallway.  Sungjong knew from previous encounters that the man was the head of this city’s police, Hoya.

Sungjong stared at the man with the gun aimed at him.  Seungho’s hands were shaking as he aimed it at Sungjong.  But Sungjong could tell from the look in Seungho’s eyes that he wouldn’t shoot as long as the man he held in his arms was in danger.

Sungjong snared and without hesitating, shot the bullet straight into his prisoner’s head.  The man in his arms fell limp and he let go, quickly sprinting away.

“G.O!” Seungho yelled.  He sprinted to the fallen man.

Sungjong didn’t have time to think as he ran through the house, trying to find the entrance to the underground prison.

Suddenly he felt electricity go through his body and he couldn’t help but shake violently.  He turned and saw that a tazer’s line was stuck in his arm.  Before he knew it, he was being pushed against the wall.  Sungjong struggled against Hoya but Hoya was too quick and Sungjong felt the handcuff’s tightening grip around his wrists.

“Everyone’s heads will roll when they find out I’ve captured NamJong as well as killed T.O.P,” Hoya laughed. He was bringing Sungjong down to the basement where the underground prisons were.

            “Sungjong!”

Sungjong felt like killing Hoya when he saw the condition Woohyun was in.  The infamous Namsmirk was replaced with a vulnerable pale looking imitation of Woohyun.  His lips were cut and his face was so bruised it looked like it was turning purple by the second.  He was so skinny that Sungjong could see his ribs.

“You ing bastard!” Sungjong struggled. Only a second later, he felt himself being electrocuted again.

He could hear Woohyun shouting profanities at Hoya with his hands gripping the bars violently before he passed out.

The days all merged into one another so it became a hopeless tangle of continuous events.  Every day Hoya’s two men would come down and give them food.  There was no use asking questions since they assumed T.O.P was dead.  But Woohyun and Sungjong wouldn’t give up fighting against them.  They refused to let their pride diminish.  Every time someone slipped the food tray underneath the bars or got close enough to grasp, Sungjong and Woohyun would attack.  Usually this ended up in being tazed, kicked, strangled or slashed at.

It got to the point where the two watch guards started carrying around large wooden sticks.

            “Sungjong, I’ve been thinking.”

“Well what else can we do in here?” Sungjong asked.

“Dongwoo’s been getting pretty weary lately.  Have you noticed?”

            “So…”

“He’s leaving most of the responsibility to Sungyeol.  That kid….you can use your charm on him.”

Sungjong was silent as he realized what Woohyun was thinking.

“Use your innocence and cuteness to trick him into letting you free for a while.”

“Just leave Sungjong!  Get out of here! I’ll meet up with you later.  I promise!” Woohyun shouted for Sungjong to leave.  Sungjong didn’t want to, but he knew that if he had enough time to recuperate, he would be able to come back and save Woohyun.  He stepped over Sungyeol and bounded up the stairs.

He managed to leave the mansion without being spotted.  No alarms had been sounded.  He was actually surprised that no one was in the mansion.

When he reached the gates he got an electric shock when he tried to unlock them.  As Sungjong looked around he felt he had no choice.  He would have to climb up the gates and then jump over it.  Or else he would be back in that prison.

Sungjong gritted his teeth as he put his hands on the bar and felt jolts of electricity spread in waves of pain through his body.  It felt like his hands were slowly burning away.  But he gripped them tighter and lifted his feet so he could climb up it.

Sungjong let out a yell as the electricity started building up.  He could smell his hands burning. He looked up and could see the top. In his desperation to get away from the electricity, he threw his body to the top of the gate and fell heavily onto one of the giant steel spires that lined the top.  Sungjong gritted his teeth as he felt the metal spike enter his body.  Luckily, the electricity had already numbed his body so it didn’t hurt as much as it should have.  However, he felt the horrible taste of blood start flowing from his mouth.  He fell hopelessly to the other side of the gate and quickly stumbled as he tried to get up. Thunder sounded and then rain fell down on him.  He sighed as he felt the cold rain fall on his body, soothing his burns and washing the blood away.  Slowly his eyes closed.

hint for next chappie: a new revelation will be revealed.

I will now take questions that any of you guys have! Mostly to do with Sungjong/Woohyun.  But feel free to ask anything you're confused about.  I'll try to answer them if it doesn't reflect or hint at what will happen in future chapters!

Chapter 21: This was a great read. Thank you for writing this! I liked the twists in this story. I honestly didn't expect hoya's group to actually be the police force and the other groups as the police force in the other districts. I also didn't see Sunggyu being an undercover agent coming. I'm really happy that none of the infinite members died. The flow was really fast paced and action-packed that I didn't have time to mourn for the death of the others. XD

Chapter 21: Done! Really nice story! Super intense at time, super sweet at others :) I'm kinda curious about what happened to some guys, but they were minor characters, so it wasn't something that needed to be in the story!

God work anyways! ;)
