Chapter 16 - Beijing Showcase (con't)
Behind the Scenes
Sehun POV
“Calm down, calm down,” the MC said. “How about we let Luhan talk about Sehun then?”
Phew. At least I won’t have to talk. The fans seemed extremely excited though. Their shouts were deafening. And I swear, this MC must be a HunHan shipper or something.
I smiled shyly and looked over at Luhan, who met my eye. The other members were smiling gleefully. After finding out from Joonmyun what was going on, Jongin even burst out laughing. [A/N]: Did you guys see this in the video? It made me crack upp. Kyungsoo was looking at me with wide eyes.
I tilted my body toward Luhan’s direction, trying to get a better glimpse of him. It worked, because I could see him clearly now.
Luhan began speaking. “The first time I met Sehun, he gave me the same vibe as Yixing [A/N]: That's right, Luhan called Lay "Yixing" on stage by accident haha! -- a quiet and calm little kid.” I’m not a kid! I thought indignantly. You’re just old.
“But then after I got to know him better,” Luhan continued. “I found out that he likes to play around.” The fans screamed. What does that mean? I wondered, not understanding his Chinese.
I picked up on the fact that the MC asked him to give an example.
“Well... just that his feet...never stop,” Luhan stated.
“He never stops moving around?” the MC asked.
“Yes.”
“So he’s overly energetic / really active?” [A/N]: I didn’t like the subbed video’s translation, so I tried to use my own... My Chinese is far from perfect though, so forgive me D:
“Not to that extent,” Luhan said, laughing. I fixed my hair, trying to hide my face.
“Oh okay, so just really lively?”
“Yes, yes, like a cute little brother.” You too with saying I’m like your little brother? Kris said that for Zitao already... I made a face.
“And he gives me the feeling of wanting to take care of him,” Luhan added. Of course, I hadn’t understood what he said, but by the MC and fans’ reactions, it had to be something good, so I turned to Kris. He told me, and I blushed.
Thankfully, we moved on quickly to the next question.
The girl asked if any of the members had nicknames. Luhan jumped on the opportunity. He hadn’t said anything at the Seoul showcase, but I knew he was itching to talk about Minseok...
“How about I tell you guys a secret?” Hyung, it’s not really a secret if you call him by it all the time.
“Actually, Xiumin has a nickname. He’s called ‘golden (steamed) bun.’”
The fans erupted into laughter, and so did most of the members.
“Golden is because of his surname,” Luhan explained. “He is a (steamed) bun because...” but he was interrupted as fans cheered and the MC interjected that Minseok looked embarrassed and shy already.
Luhan continued. “Because the first time we met him, we noticed that his face was round and white and tender...” I couldn’t really understand what he was saying. But I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes again. Luhan really liked that nickname for Minseok. Why didn’t you tell them about calling me Sehunnie? Unless you want to actually keep that a secret...
The little golden bun answered the last question, and then it was time for us to perform again. We had already done a bunch of dances before the Q&A. The fans cheered as we announced our next song -- “Angel.”
Luhan POV
The performance went smoothly, and I was not nearly as nervous as yesterday, though my heart still beat quickly when I was on stage. I felt a little more comfortable being in China but also more pressured to do well. Thankfully, I performed without mistakes.
I had to force myself to look to the audience whenever Sehun was dancing around me during “Angel,” but I still caught myself watching him a few times. I hope no one noticed... Or maybe I should hope they did. HunHan and all that... I smiled. The MC was definitely a HunHan shipper. And there were plenty of shippers in the audience.
After the showcase, we held a press conference. Our managers arranged where everyone would be. Aware of the HunHan support, they put Sehun standing behind me. It made me extremely happy.
We started off by introducing ourselves. I contained my laughter at hearing the Korean members speak in Chinese, but I was proud of them. Jongin’s slow, clear introduction nearly made me laugh out loud. Zitao introduced himself as “Zitao” and stumbled, correcting himself to “Tao.” Maybe I should start calling them by their stage names... Nah.
Baekhyun accidentally said his name in Korean and corrected himself as an afterthought, almost interrupting Kyungsoo. Chen and Xiumin did fine, and then it was Sehun’s turn.
His voice was even softer than usual in his careful Chinese. When he finished, he lowered his head in embarrassment. I chuckled and reached behind me to pat his leg in comfort.
The interview began. I answered one question. Then the next question was: “This being EXO’s first time in China, do any of the Korean members have favorite Chinese artists?” [A/N]: "Artist" isn’t the best translation here. It basically means anyone doing anything in the entertainment industry.
Sehun tapped me on the shoulder. I looked back at him. He motioned for me to pass him the microphone, so I handed it to him, smiling. I’m sure Chinese fans will like your choice.
“Jackie Chan,” Sehun stated. [A/N]: He said it in Chinese. The MC repeated it because his voice was soft and his pronunciation was slightly off.
“Yes, I like Jackie Chan because I liked watching action movies when I was younger,” Sehun continued. “I thought they were the coolest,” he finished, voice trailing off in the end. Aw, that last part sounded just like what a little kid would say. Too cute.
Sehun looked down as the MC translated.
“I also have someone I like,” Minseok said. “I like JJ Lin...” Fans broke in with “Ooh” and I smiled, looking around, knowing he would say that. A lot of the fans will like your answer too, golden bun.
“...and also Jay Chou,” Minseok added. [A/N]: He said both names in Chinese. I glanced at him again while he gave his reason and smiled when he finished.
After a few more questions, the interview ended and we left. Our showcases are finally over! I thought to myself, feeling accomplished. However, the victory was bittersweet. Now, EXO-K would have to return to Korea while EXO-M stayed in China. Sehun, I won’t be able to see you for a while. Any time away from you is far too long...
