24.5 | The Thoughts in His Head
Because of YouHello! So in the old version (which was written in first person), a reader suggested that I add a chapter from Kai's POV. Since I already wrote it, figured I might as well include it. It's definitely a lot shorter than the other chapters (hence the 0.5 ) and will most likely be the only one.
Is it really over? Kai remembered asking multiple times, that night they confirmed the end. Their end, that is.
During the past six years, he asked himself the same question a couple more times, less and less each time, until it eventually drifted to the back of his mind and disappeared into the abyss.
But even so, not once did he accept nor did he deny the truth—that their four-year relationship did, in fact, vanish within a blink of an eye.
He couldn’t bring himself to believe he had failed to keep his rarest treasure by his side.
Looking back now, he understood why.
It was because he arrogantly convinced himself she would always be there no matter where he went, what he did, and how far he strayed.
But boy was he wrong.
Kai was young. He was stupid. He had faults. Yet none of those could excuse him for his actions and the choices he made.
He was appalled with himself for setting her aside, for letting his anger get the best of him, for spurting out words he didn't even mean—knowing they would hurt her. That they would hurt her badly.
