Love at First Bite
Humming under her breath, Hayoon skipped along the sidewalk. Despite the cold weather, the sun was shining brightly in the blue sky, no clouds to be seen, hinting at the end of winter. Her first year of masters had ended, meaning now she just needed to focus on her intern work. This also freed up her schedule considerably. Pushing the door of Dear Me open, Hayoon’s eyes widened in disbelief at the sight in front of her.
Vases filled with sunflowers were placed all along the window sills and the counter, turning the inside of the coffee shop into a summer garden. Baffled at the presence of the summer flowers when spring was barely around the corner, Hayoon slowly approached the counter, her expression blank as she just blinked nonstop.
“Quite a bizarre sight isn’t it?” Irene mused. “No idea where Minseok got these from, but when I arrived this morning they were everywhere already.”
“It’s rather magical,” Hayoon whispered, a soft grin growing on her face. “Sunflowers are my favourite flowers. Just seeing them makes me feel happy.”
“That’s very fitting, you liking sunflowers,” Minseok quipped. “Don’t you think so Soo?”
Poking his head out of the kitchen, Kyungsoo shifted his eyes between the sunflowers and Hayoon, and gave a firm nod before escaping back into the kitchen wanting to hide the blush creeping up his neck. This left Minseok speechless at the male’s behaviour and Hayoon frowning slightly at how quickly he disappeared.
“Why don’t you sit down Hayoon? I put in extra care when placing the flowers around your table,” Minseok declared with great satisfaction.
Biting her lower lip as she gave Minseok an appreciative smile, Hayoon settled down at her usual table, admiring the sunflowers as they glistened under the sunshine.
