I Remember...

Baek to the Basics

Baekhyun’s lips tugged upwards into a cheeky grin as he followed Chanyeol down the stairs of the apartment complex and out into the busy city street. His backpack was stuffed to the brim with snacks and strawberry milk – crumpled, and probably forgotten, at the bottom of the backpack was his notebook and pencil case. All set for class, as Chanyeol had called it.

“Here,” he said, his hand dipping into the pocket of his jacket, returning a few moments later with a small sweet biscuit, wrapped tightly in green and gold plastic. “Just in case you get hungry.”

Baekhyun smiled, taking the sweet biscuit from Chanyeol’s outstretched hand. He knew that being hungry with his backpack stuffed full of snacks was certainly impossible. Chanyeol always worried about him being hungry whilst in class, and being so far away from him during the day – and unable to make his bunny lunch – Chanyeol decided that it was best if Baekhyun had too much food with him.

“Mister Giant?” Baekhyun asked, adjusting the collar of his shirt. He was careful to pick the same shirt that Chanyeol chose, just so passerby’s knew that Chanyeol was his.  “Do I have to go to class today? Can’t we go have a picnic in the park instead?” he patted his bulging backpack gently, careful not to crush any of the snacks inside.

“As much as I’d love to, Bunny,” Chanyeol replied. “I think class is best – it’s really helping you.”

Baekhyun frowned. “Helping?” he asked. “So if I remembered, I wouldn’t have to go anymore?”

Chanyeol remained silent for a long moment as he pondered this. “I suppose,” he said slowly. “Yeah.”

Baekhyun’s eyes lit up immediately and he linked his arm with Chanyeol’s. “In that case,” he grinned, “I remember.”

The breath caught in Chanyeol’s throat and he came to a halt, his hands gripping onto Baekhyun’s shoulders rightly. “Really?” he breathed. “What do you remember?”

“Lots of things,” Baekhyun replied. “I remember that the picture theatre that you took me to see the Conjuring is just around the corner. On the second day after you let me stay with you, Mister Giant, you wore a blue jumper. I also remember that Mister Giant wore purple underwear yesterday –“

Chanyeol’s brow knitted together. His cheeks heated up, his ears turned pink. “Er,” he stammered, embarrassed. “At least you remember. Although, something like that – you probably shouldn’t.”

Letting go of Baekhyun’s shoulders, Chanyeol turned. “Let’s go. I don’t want you to be late.”

The cheeky smile on Baekhyun’s face widened as he hurried after his Giant, linking their arms together. With a small sigh, he leaned his head on Chanyeol’s shoulder.

“Mister Giant?” he asked quietly. “Do you remember when I was this small?”

Holding his free hand up, Baekhyun measured out how tall he was with his thumb and middle finger.

“I do remember,” Chanyeol smiled, his gaze fixed ahead, making sure they didn’t bump into anyone. “Why do you ask?”

A small, content sigh escaped Baekhyun’s lips and he closed his eyes for a brief moment, allowing himself to be guided by Chanyeol. “Do you remember when I was small enough to fit in your pocket? I liked that. I felt safe in Mister Giant’s pocket.”

“Safe?” Chanyeol asked in alarm. “Do you not feel safe now?”

Baekhyun opened his eyes quickly, flashing Chanyeol a reassuring smile. “No, I do feel safe. It just – When I was in the pocket of your jacket, it was warm; it was like I was always being hugged. I like Mister Giant’s hugs.”

A soft chuckle escaped Chanyeol’s lips as he wrapped his arms tightly around Baekhyun’s shoulders. “And,” he smiled. “I like hugging you, Bunny.”

With his cheeks stuffed full of sweet bread and a carton of strawberry milk clutched tightly in his hand, Baekhyun trotted after Kris. It was difficult trying to talk without spraying the other with a shower of soggy bread crumbs, but it was not for lack of trying.

Baekhyun was not an idiot. Kris had not uttered a word for the entire day. When something was bothering his friend, Baekhyun was willing to do anything to help.

“Kris,” he called. “Kris, wait for me!”

For every step that Kris took, Baekhyun took three. It was hard work keeping up with somebody so tall, but Baekhyun managed. With the hand not occupied by strawberry milk, Baekhyun offered Chanyeol a piece of melon bread. “Want some?” he asked, waving it under the others nose.

Kris frowned, shaking his head. “No thank you,” he replied quietly.

“Why not? You used to love eating sweet bread. You used to love sharing it with me. Don’t you remember?”

“Uh – “ Kris’ lips twisted into a grimace and he stopped walking, an action which took Baekhyun – who continued forward another few paces by himself – off guard. “I do remember, but I didn’t think you did.”

Clapping his hands together, Baekhyun hurried back to Kris’ side, a mischievous glint in his eyes. “Oh, I do remember!” he exclaimed. “I remember lots of things! Like Mister Giant’s purple underwear, and – “

Resting his elbows heavily on the table, his fingers on his temples, Chanyeol let out a long, wary sigh, his eyes closing. He could feel the heat of his cup of coffee radiate from the porcelain mug, the strong, bitter scent of the rich liquid burned his nostrils.

“I don’t like this,” he said, his voice low. “I don’t like this at all.”

Joonmyeon’s lips tugged upwards into a small smile and he placed a hand reassuringly on his friends shoulder. “I understand completely,” he said. “And it is entirely up to you, but I think that this can really help Baekhyun.”

Dragging his fingertips through his hair, Chanyeol pushed his cup of coffee away and sighed again. “No,” he breathed. “I can’t – that would … No.”

Wrapping his fingers around the handle of the untouched coffee cup, Joonmyeon got to his feet. Moving swiftly into the kitchen, he emptied the thick brown liquid into the kitchen sink, instead, replacing his friends drink with a cool glass of water.

“Chanyeol,” he said softly, placing the glass on the table in front of his friend; a small ring of coffee decorated the surface of the wooden table in the exact spot the mug had been just moments prior. “The choice is yours. Just do what you think is right. Do what you think is right for Baekhyun.”

I haven't really been in a writing mood lately.
So excuse the awful update.
The University year began today.
Well ...
*is going to the campus bar tomorrow*
/shot'd

On the plus, one brother got back from Sydney on Saturday.
The other brother got back from his long trip to Japan yesterday morning.
Early yesterday morning.
But that's okay because presents.

Today, I made friends with a Japanese exchange student
at my Uni who looks like Taka from ONE OK ROCK.

Must. Not. Fangirl.
*dies happily*

IMPORTANT:

A lot of you have asked for kisses. A lot of you have asked for romance.
So I thought I'd give you a choice. Would you rather ...

No relationship devemopment. No relationship progression.
BUT lots of chapters filled with lots of fluff.
(Kinda how it is now. No kisses but fluff.)

OR

Relationship development. Kisses. Lots of kisses.
Actual romance (not the kind). A happily ever after.
ANSWERS. Why Baek is how he is.
BUT very limited chapters remaining?
(Limited chapters = 5 at the most probably)

Pinkie knows what colour undies you're wearing, Yeol.
