Chapter Forty Eight

At first, she thought that she was hallucinating but when she blinked for a few times and looked closer, Kira seemed... real, he was looking at her with a smile on his face. Something that she has never seen in her entire life, Hasegawa Kira smiling at her for more than 5 seconds, she was spacing out as she continued to stare at Kira

“He’s not for real right? I mean... there’s no way Kira would attend our reunion, I mean... it’s our reunion?” she said to herself, then “yah Mika, you better start your speech or else the others will get bored!” Chizu silently proclaimed on the side, “O-Oh right” said Mika then she faced the crowd

She felt really nervous again, she took a deep breath, closed her eyes for a while then she suddenly remembered the things that happened to her when she met Kira “U-Uh?” she wondered, she opened her eyes, took a step forward the mic and she started to speak

“Hey everybody, it’s good to see you all again... even though I can’t remember some of you because you guys look more pretty and handsome than you used to look”she said and the crowd giggled at her statement, she smiled and continued to talk “It’s been a long time since I’ve graduated from high school and to tell you guys, I only went to college for 2 years but right now, I’m perfectly fine with my job. I was able to meet some stars whom I’ve worked with for a span of a month or two but I’m not that really close to them, they say that they’re afraid to approach me because it seems like I don’t want to make friends with them, heh... and it is a bit true” Mika added which made the crowd laugh again,
“But... there was one group that I’ve recently worked with who became like my best friends, in fact... they treat me as if I were their sister or something... at first, I found them a bit annoying since they suddenly wanted to make friends with me and at that time, I didn’t want to come in contact with them... a lot of things had happened to me when I was with them, first... they dragged me to a party and forced me to wear a dress, next they dragged me to Okinawa where I almost drowned and a lot more has happened  but... I thank them because I’ve experienced such things. Indeed, I stayed in Tokyo for three years already but during my first two years... it wasn’t that fun though I was able to meet someone whom I considered as my best friend as I was living alone here but then... someone unexpected suddenly came in my life that changed everything...” she said as she remembered Kira and it made her smile

“The first time I saw him was during a performance at the open space in front of the café I was staying, my friend dragged me there since she was a big fan of this boy group that he belonged to. I don’t know what happened but when I saw that guy, I suddenly felt butterflies in my stomach but... as usual, I would just neglect it. Two days later, during Christmas, I met him again. We bumped into each other while I was running, and after a few more days I found out that I will be working with him and his group members... at first, I tried to ignore him and didn’t bother talking to him since he seems uninterested in talking to me but somehow, I always get stuck in some unlucky situations with him and maybe because of that, we got closer to each other... I can still remember the time when we got lost and we ended up watching the fireworks in the park and the time when he was stupid enough to jump off that cliff just to save me from drowning and the times when we would fight because we were both stubborn yet we ended up making up with each other and laugh about what we fought about... I know... it sounds as if we’re a couple or something right? But... we’re not... heh... and it’s because of my stupidity; I wasn’t able to tell him how I felt sooner, it was too late already... *sigh* Uh? Heh, looks like I’m telling you guys more about my love life than my career life but actually... that’s how I’m living my life right now... I’m confused and all but I know that things will get better soon right? So I guess this is all I can say, I wasn’t really prepared for this whole speech thing so, I’m really sorry for this lame speech. Heh, I hope you’ll have a nice evening (^^)” she said as she ended her speech, the crowd was quiet this time but Mika didn’t bother about their reaction, she was on her way down the stage when suddenly, she heard the crow clapping their hands “Uh?” she wondered as she turned to them

“Looks like our Mika has finally grown!” “Yah Ootori, don’t be such a kid and go after that guy!” “Good luck on your love life Mika-chan!” her batch mates and teachers said as they were cheering Mika on.

“Minna... *smile* thank you” she said as she bowed to them then she got off the stage with a smile on her face, the next speaker went on and while she was talking, Mika hurriedly walked towards Yoshiro

“Yah Yoshiro!” she called, “Your speech, it was touching” he said, “Heh, thanks” Mika responded then she started to look around, “Uh, who are you looking for?” asked Yoshiro “Did Kira come?” said Mika “Uh” said Yoshiro and he slowly nodded his head, “Eh? And I thought I was hallucinating, where is he? I really need to talk to him” said Mika “Well, he already left” Yoshiro responded

“W-What?” said Mika “He said that he needs to go, it was getting late and he still has an early schedule tomorrow” said Yoshiro and Mika suddenly felt down, then

“Mika let’s eat~” Chizu said as she approached Mika but, she didn’t respond “Mika?” Chizu wondered, “You go ahead, I don’t feel like eating” Mika responded without looking at Chizu “Hey, are you okay?” She asked “No, I’m not. *sigh* I think I’ll go ahead already, I still need to double check on my things, I don’t want to leave anything behind since I’ll be gone for a long time” Mika responded, “Let me take you home” Yoshiro offered, “No need. I’ll just go take a cab” Mika responded then she left

“Uh?” Chizu wondered then she turned to Yoshiro and Yoshiro released a sigh.

Mika arrived at her apartment, she slowly walked into her room and sat on the bed staring at the blank space as she recalled seeing Kira at first but in the end, he just left.

“I can’t believe it... he came but then, he left... is he stupid or something? Does he even know how nervous I was while standing on that stage and saying those words? I mean, what I did wasn’t a speech at all but it was somehow like a confession but... he just left... *sigh* come to think of it, it’s also my fault... I’m too slow and that’s what I hate about myself... I hate it... I guess... I won’t be able to tell Kira how I really feel then...”

She was really upset about what happened, her only chance of telling him how she feels yet he had to leave even before Mika was finished with her speech. She released another sigh then she decided to lie down and stare at the ceiling...

            On the other hand, “Uh, you’re back already?” Miharu said as he opened the door and Kira entered the room and Kira just gave him a half smile then he went to his room, “Uh?” all of them wondered.

Yuki knocked on the door and Kira let him enter, he went inside and saw his twin lying on the bed staring at the ceiling

“So where have you been?” he asked as he approached Kira “Ootori’s Reunion” Kira responded without looking at his brother, “Uh? What were you doing there?” asked Yuki and Kira didn’t respond, he just continued to stare at the ceiling

“Did you confess already?” he added but still, Kira kept quiet. Yuki released a sigh and he kept quiet as well, then... “The reason why I came back earlier than you guys expected was because... I got hurt” Kira broke the silence and Yuki turned to him

“I got hurt after seeing him kiss her on the forehead... I was hurt and at the same time mad that I suddenly left without even telling them... I got angry and all but then... I realized... I AM SO STUPID” he added which shocked Yuki “What are you talking about?” he asked

Kira gave him a weak smile and started to tell him what happened...

Flashback:

Kira arrived at Tokyo University and he saw Yoshiro waiting for him outside “Uh?” he said but he was still wearing that mean look as he approached Yoshiro

“Oh thank goodness you’re here” Yoshiro said as he saw Kira “What do you want?” said Kira “No time to explain, Mika’s about to start her speech, come one” Yoshiro said as he was about to drag Kira inside but then Kira stopped

“Why the heck would I care if Ootori will start her speech or not? And why did you want me to come here?!” Kira proclaimed as he was irritated of what was happening, “Don’t tell me you’ve given up on Mika?” said Yoshiro “What?” said Kira “Are you giving up on her?” Yoshiro repeated, “What are you talking about, you two are already dating and-” “WHAT? Dating?” Yoshiro was surprised of what Kira said

“I saw you kissing her on the forehead yesterday” said Kira “What? Wait, is that the reason why you suddenly left?” asked Yoshiro “Heh, wow... Mika’s really going to have a hard time dealing with someone who gets easily jealous” he murmured and Kira gave him a confused look, “Yah Hasegawa Kira, listen up... I decided to let go of Mika okay? To step out of the way so that she won’t have a difficult time choosing you!” Yoshiro proclaimed, “W-What?” said Kira “And that kiss? Yeah, it was more of a kiss goodbye” Yoshiro added, “S-So you mean to say...” “Mika was about to confess to you yesterday but then you suddenly left without telling any of us. Do you know how sad she was? And this whole morning, when she got back here in Tokyo she immediately looked for you, she even skipped lunch just to look for you so that she can finally tell you her feelings” he said, Kira couldn’t believe what he was hearing, he was left dumbfounded, then

“Argsh, Mika’s about to have her speech, come on inside” Yoshiro said as he pulled Kira in and both of them stayed at the back. Kira was bothered with the lights turning on and off, “Urgh” he said then he turned to the center and he saw Mika looking at him and she was blushing

“Uh?” he said, he didn’t know why but he suddenly smiled at her as if he was being controlled by someone else but he also felt good while smiling at her...

He looked at her as she started to give her speech, he wasn’t focusing on the speech but he was focusing on Mika and remembered what Yoshiro said that they weren’t going out. He was really happy but then...

“Mika... I don’t think I can face you like this” he said as he suddenly felt ashamed, then he started to leave “Where are you going?” asked Yoshiro “I need to go, I still have an early schedule tomorrow” Kira replied “What? But you just got here” said Yoshiro “I know and... I’m sorry” said Kira and he gave Yoshiro a weak smile, then left “Uh?” Yoshiro wondered.

-END of Flashback-

“You left just like that!?” Yuki exclaimed

“I saw her a while ago; she looks so pretty as usual but... I suddenly left because I was ashamed of myself; I was ashamed to face her again after the whole misunderstanding... after leaving her and continuously hurting her and making her confused...” said Kira

“But Kira, you shouldn’t have left! I mean, that was your chance to-”

“Chance to what? Confess to her? And if I confessed to her, do you think she’ll stay? No... she’ll still leave... that’s why it’s also better to just leave things as it is... I don’t want to confess to her... I’m afraid that if I attempt to do that, I would just hurt her” said Kira

“But Kira-”

“Yuki, try to place yourself in my case, will you still confess to someone whom you know that will still leave?” said Kira and Yuki kept quiet

“Heh, I knew it... you won’t do it as well” he added as he turned away, there was a moment of silence until, “You’re wrong... even if I know that she will soon leave me, I want her to know how I feel” said Yuki “Uh?” Kira wondered “You’re not afraid that Mika-chan might get hurt... you’re afraid that you might get hurt...” he added then Kira kept quiet.

Yuki suddenly went to Kira’s desk and opened the first drawer, he grabbed something from inside of it and he showed it to Kira 

“What’s that?” Kira said as he looked at the piece of paper that Yuki gave him, “Did you forget about it?” asked Yuki and Kira just stared at the piece of paper

“It’s the fortune” Yuki replied then he let Kira hold it, “I hope you’ll come to realize your decision” he added then he left, Kira released a sigh then he looked at the piece of paper

"The person you love might be around the corner, so keep your eyes open and be aware or else someone might steal her."

 “This thing doesn’t even connect to my situation right now but... it somehow makes me want to realize something” Kira said to himself then he kept the paper in his pocket and lied down.

            The next morning, at the Music Station...

“Argsh, I really want to see Mika-chan off!” Daisuke proclaimed, “Too bad we weren’t able to give her our proper good-byes” said Hiro “Yeah, this (-_-) we weren’t even able to throw her a farewell party and now, we can’t even see her off” said Jin then, “That’s because you guys also have your own occupation” Tanaka inserted as she gave the guys their mics

“You guys are going to have a short interview after your performance” she added and the guys nodded their heads. Tanaka turned to Kira and noticed that he was very quiet and not himself

“Uh?” she wondered then, “Tanaka-san, what time is Mika-chan’s flight?” asked Miharu “10:15 AM” Tanaka replied “EH!? The program will be finished by 11:00AM, it’s really impossible to see her off T_T” Daisuke cried and Tanaka just kept quiet, actually, she was more worried about Kira as she looked at him who looked really lonely...

            Meanwhile, “Bags ready?” asked Syuu and Mika nodded her head, “I’ll carry those” he said as he carried the stroller that Mika was bringing, Mika turned to her apartment and said “I’m going to miss this place” then she turned the lights off and closed the door. She and Syuu went downstairs and saw Hana waiting for them at the car, “Mika-nee’s finally leaving, I can’t believe this (T_T)” she cried then she hugged Mika “I’m really going to miss you!” she added and Mika hugged her back, “We’re not yet at the airport and you miss me already (^^)” she said then the three of them went in the car and drove off.

On her way to the airport, Mika looked outside the window of the car and she looked at the tall buildings as they passed through it, she suddenly remembered the time when Kira took her out and taught her how to ice skate, she suddenly smiled. She also remembered the time when Kira dressed up as a girl and pretended to be Syuu’s ‘girlfriend’, her smile got bigger

“*sigh* I’ll really miss those times... too bad I won’t be able to see them” she said to herself, she released another sigh.

Back at the Music Station, while waiting for their turn to perform, Kira was looking at Mika’s necklace which until now, he failed to return

“You’re suppose to help me bring Mika and me together but why am I having such a difficult time returning you?” he said then he remembered the time when he and Mika got stuck in the practice room and when he let her sleep on his shoulder, he also remembered the time when he admitted that he likes her and the time when he accidentally kissed her, he suddenly smiled and said

“I wish I could see her one more time” then, “If you miss her that much, you do realize you can just skip the show” said Daisuke “Uh? Aniki” Kira said as he kept the necklace, “Heh, you can’t hide that from me anymore, I already saw it” said Daisuke “tch” said Kira then Daisuke sat next to him

“I overheard your conversation with Yuki last night and you know what... I agree with him” said Daisuke “Uh?” Kira wondered then he kept quiet, “I know... you were stupid and stubborn and you’re ashamed to face Mika-chan because of that but... you have to face her anyway, at least just tell her the three words and I bet she’ll leave the country with a smile on her face” Daisuke added and Kira didn’t respond

 “Yah let’s go, we’re almost up!” Jin proclaimed, “Uh, hai” Kira responded then the two stood up and went near them

Moments later, they performed on stage and as usual, Kira did a good job hiding his sadness in front of the camera, they performed really well and were being cheered on by their fans.

At the airport, 15 minutes more and Mika will leave, she was sitting down when suddenly, “Guess who?” someone said as she covered Mika’s eyes, “Chizu” said Mika and Chizu faced her, “How did you know?” she said, “It’s kind of obvious” Mika replied, “Heh, omo Mika, I’m really going to miss you!” she proclaimed as she hugged Mika tightly

“Me too... I’m so glad that you came” said Mika, then “Uhm... ano...” a girl said; Mika turned around and was surprised to see Konoka

“Konoka-chan?” she wondered.

“H-Hey” Konoka greeted as she gave Mika a weak smile, she was still nervous because she really never got the chance to apologize to Mika, Mika smiled and suddenly hugged her

“U-Uh?” Konoka wondered, she was shocked of what Mika did, then “Please take care of Syuu-nii for me?” she said, Konoka smiled and said “Of course” then they broke the hug “Looks like the two of you made up already” said Syuu and the two girls smiled, “10 more minutes ‘till your flight... I can’t believe we have to say good bye again” said Rui “Well, that’s life... by the way, thanks as well” said Mika “For what?” Rui wondered, “I don’t know, I just feel like saying thank you to you... maybe because you told Tanaka-san that I quit?” said Mika “Yah, are you making fun of me? (-_-) I said I was sorry okay?” said Rui and Mika quietly laughed, “Nah, I was just kidding but still, thanks for helping me as well” she said, “Hmm...=3= well, it’s no big deal” said Rui

After Boyfriend’s performance they proceeded to the room where they will have their interview, Kira looked at the time and it was already 10:05AM

“10 more minutes and Mika-chan will leave, ARRGHH! I really want to see her off >3<” Jin whined, “We all do, especially him...” Miharu said as he looked at Kira who was looking at the clock “Uh?” they wondered, then “Let’s start the interview then” the interviewer said as he sat down and the guys nodded their heads, they started with the interview and he started asking them a lot of questions but Kira wasn’t paying attention to him at all, if he would ask Kira a question, he would just reply in two to three words while looking at the clock, then “Argsh, I can’t take this anymore” Daisuke murmured as he stood up, “Where are you going? We’re not yet done with the interview” said the interviewer, “We’ll be back, just go in to commercial or something, I need to have a serious talk with Kira” Daisuke responded then he went near Kira, grabbed him and pulled him out of the room, “Uh?” the others wondered, outside...

“Aniki, what’s going on?” he asked, “I can’t take this anymore, I know I shouldn’t in but in this situation, I need to” Daisuke mumbled and Kira gave him a confused face “Yah Kira, go after her” Daisuke added, “W-What?” said Kira “I said go after her you stubborn egg head!” Daisuke proclaimed and Kira was shocked of what he heard, “Heh, looks like I really miss Mika-chan already” Daisuke said to himself, “A-Aniki” said Kira “If I were you, I should go after her. Even though I was a fool for misunderstanding things and ashamed to face her but still, she needs to know how I feel and I want that to happen to you Kira, now go after her! That’s an order from your leader” said Daisuke “B-But Aniki, I don’t think I can-” “You love her right? So why are you being likes this? Kira... this is your first time being in love, don’t tell me that you’re just going to keep your feelings for her all to yourself? She needs to know, now go!” Daisuke proclaimed, “But the show-” “Don’t worry, we’ll just tell the interviewer that you need to attend to something more important” said Daisuke “Aniki...” Kira said then he suddenly hugged him “Arigatou, Arigatou Gozaimasu!” he thanked him, Daisuke let out a smile and broke the hug “Hurry up, you only have 8 minutes left” said Daisuke “Uh, hai!” Kira proclaimed then he started to run

“Kira... I hope you make it” Daisuke said to himself then he went back inside. Kira went outside and was trying to call a taxi but there weren’t any around, “ARGH! Darn it” he proclaimed as he looked at his watch “7 minutes more” he mumbled then, BEEP! BEEP! A car parked in front of him, Kira looked inside and was surprised to see Tanaka

“T-Tanaka-san?” he wondered, “I knew this would happen, good thing I prepared the car, now get in!” she proclaimed, Kira nodded his head and went inside the car and they drove off

Back at the airport, Mika continued to say her good-byes. She turned to Yoshiro next, “Thank you too, even though we’ve only bonded for a short period of time, I’m still thankful that you made me happy and we were able to have a lot of fun (^^)” she said “Hmm, I know I’m supposed to be happy for you but I feel more sad” said Yoshiro “Why is that?” asked Mika “Because... he’s not here” Yoshiro replied, Mika knew that he was talking about Kira and she just gave him a weak smile, then Mika turned to Hana who was starting to cry, “Hana?” she said “Mika-nee! I’ll miss you!” she proclaimed as she hugged Mika tight, “Uh? Hana *smile* don’t worry, Konoka-chan’s there now and I bet you’ll have tons of fun with her” said Mika “I know but still... things won’t be the same when you’re not here” said Hana and Mika just smiled

In the car, “ARGH! Stupid Traffic” Tanaka proclaimed, Kira looked at the time and “3 minutes more, darn it” he said suddenly, his phone rang “Uh?” he wondered and he answered it

*Phone Convo*

Syuu: Aren’t you going to say good-bye to Mika?
Kira: Heh, I’m on my way there already
Syuu: Uh?
Kira: Stupid Traffic, we can’t get through
Syuu: You better hurry, she’s almost leaving
Kira: I’m aware of that, sheesh

Suddenly, their conversation was cut off because Kira’s battery was dead, “Argsh, stupid!” he proclaimed, in Syuu’s case

“Hello?” he said but Kira was already gone, “Uh?” he wondered then, “Syuu-nii?” Mika said as she approached him, “Uh, Mika...” said Syuu “I’ll miss you the most” she said, “Heh, are you sure?” asked Syuu as he was thinking of Kira being the one that Mika would miss the most, “I’m glad that I’ve met you... if it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t be able to get through the life here in Tokyo so... thank you” she said, Syuu smiled and he hugged her, “Same here. I’m glad that I’ve met you” he whispered and Mika smiled “I hope that you and Konoka-chan would be happy with each other” she said, “Same with you and Kira” Syuu responded which made Mika’s smile turn into a weak one, they broke the hug and Syuu faced her

“You know that he loves you... right?” he said, “If he loves me, then why am I feeling lonely? If he loves me, why isn’t he here? If he loves me... why did he leave me back there without even saying anything?” she said then Syuu kept quiet

“I guess this is good bye... Kira” she said to herself

Tanaka got tired of waiting then she suddenly remembered a shortcut, they took the shortcut and arrived at the airport on time, “Darn it, 10:15 already? I hope I make it” Kira said as he got off the car and went inside, he started to search for Mika “Ootori!” he yelled while looking for her...

Mika took a deep breath and grabbed her bag “Thanks for everything guys... I’ll see you soon I guess... good bye ^^” she said then she walked away from them, “Mika...” they said as they watched her leave “I can’t believe it, she’s gone and Kira-kun didn’t even bother to see her off” said Hana and the rest just kept quiet

Suddenly, “Ootori Mika!” they heard someone cried Mika’s name out, they looked back and saw Kira looking around and he was sweating, “Kira...” said Konoka then, “Over here!” Syuu proclaimed, Kira heard him and he ran towards them, “You’re late, she’s already gone you idiot!” Yoshiro proclaimed, “What? No way...” he said then he ran towards the direction where Mika walked to but then

“I’m sorry sir, I can’t let you through” the guard said as he stopped him, “But I... argsh, Yah Ootori Mika!” he proclaimed hoping that Mika would hear him...

“If you can hear me then please listen... I’m sorry okay? I’m sorry for being such a jerk, for being such an egghead, I’m sorry! I’m sorry for leaving you all the time, for being selfish and just thinking about how I feel and not how you feel... I’m sorry! Please... I hope you can hear me! I... I... I LOVE YOU!” he yelled as tears stared to fall from his eyes, he was hoping that Mika would turn around and walk towards him but...

“I’m sorry sir but you need to go, you’re blocking the passenger’s way” the guard said “B-But...” said Kira then, “Kira-kun...” Syuu said as he went near him and got a hold of him, “Takashi...” said Kira “Let’s go... she’s already gone” said Syuu “N-No” said Kira then he pushed Syuu (not too hard) and ran off, he went to the park and cried there

“NO! NO! NO!” he cried as his tears continued to fall, he was punching the trunk of the tree to let his anger out, he was mad at himself for being a stubborn jerk, he felt bad about it... the only girl that he loves... is already gone... he wasn’t able to tell her how he loves her so much and that made him angry the most, then...

“Kira...” someone said as she placed her hand on Kira’s shoulder and she patted her back, Kira turned to her “T-Tanaka-san?” he said, “It’s okay... I know you’re angry right now so just let it all out” she said, Kira looked at her for a while then he continued to cry...

Back at the Music Station, the interview suddenly ended earlier than they expected. They went to their dressing room, Daisuke checked his phone and there was 1 missed call from Syuu “Uh?” he wondered and he called him back

*Phone Convo*

Syuu: Hello?
Daisuke: How did it go?
Syuu: It went okay, Mika was able to get on the plane safely
Daisuke: and Kira?
Syuu: He... didn’t make it on time
Daisuke: W-What?

Daisuke suddenly hung up, he couldn’t believe it; he actually thought that Kira was able to make it but he didn’t, suddenly

“Aniki, how did it go?” asked Hiro, Daisuke turned to them with a sad face, “Kira... didn’t make it” he said

“No way” said Yuki, he suddenly ran out and took a taxi, he arrived at the airport but instead of going in, he saw Kira at the nearby park and Tanaka was there comforting him, he went near them and saw his brother sitting on the grass and looking up the sky, he was done crying but he was still upset

“Kira” he said as he sat next to him, “Yuki...” Kira said and he showed him a weak smile, “I think I’ll leave the two of you alone first” Tanaka said as she stood up and left the two.

Kira looked up at the sky again, “Kira... I’m sorry” Yuki apologized, “Why are you saying sorry? It kind of makes me feel a lot worse” said Kira “E-Eh? Sorry” said Yuki “You said it again” said Kira “Uh, heh” said Yuki. “I can’t believe she’s gone... I’m really stupid” said Kira, “Yah... you’re not stupid okay? You’re just... slow” Yuki responded which made Kira smile a little bit, Yuki smiled as well then he noticed the necklace that Kira was holding

“You weren’t able to give it back to her” he said and Kira nodded his head, “Hmm, maybe it means something else... she may have left for now but I feel like she’ll come back” said Yuki “Heh, stop fantasizing will you?” said Kira “But-” “I don’t want to get my hopes up” Kira added and Yuki kept quiet

There was a silence between them then, “But Yuki...” Kira said and Yuki turned to him, “If ever Mika comes back... do you think she would still talk to me?
