BOYFRIEND? GIRLFRIEND?

CARPE DIEM: MOMENTS SHARED WITH YOU

"Yes, I get jealous. Yes, I get possessive. Why? Because what's mine is mine and sometimes I think someone might steal you away forever."

-Unknown

Kwon Yuri foumd solace in quiet. She never knew how, she never knew when, but at times she knew she needed to make time for herself. She had to be away from people. Many days have passed since her buying a gift. More days have passed since her accident. Jessica seemed to distance from her. Occassionally, Tiffany comes to their side of the building only to find Yuri and give her a massage during break because according to her, "My savior is still weak. Let Tiffany show her gratitude, yeah?" To which Yuri would reply sheepishly with "Geez, Fany-ah, they're just bruises. No more cuts, see? I could even do yoga. This is nothing."

But Tiffany was always being a usual tease, like today, Yuri thought.

Leaning in, Tiffany whispered onto Yuri, as she latched her body against her back. "I'd want to give my Yuri a massage. I'm sure you'd love this." Yuri gulped. 'Is she flirting with me right now?' Yuri thought as she straightened her back and fought back her wanting to leave the spot. She always felt umcomfortable under Tiffany's touch. Too ashamed to be in the situation with all her co-workers oogling, she averted her gaze and looked the other way.

She swore she saw Jessica looking at them.

-

Loud footsteps echoed around the building as a blonde haired teen ran to the reception. Many girls have glanced the person's way eliciting a smirk from the latter. Flashing the woman behind a counter with a bright smile, the person bowed followed by asking, "I'm here for Ms. Jessica. Jessica Jung."

-

Jessica couldn't take off the churning sensation at the pit of her stomach. She had always thought that Yuri amd Tiffany had something in between them. She knew she was prepared. Still she couldn't help but feel hurt that Yuri seemed to forget what they had heen through in a matter of a few days. She didn't expect that she would fall behind her idol, Tiffany Hwang. She never was angry to Tiffany. Tiffany helped her in a lot more ways possible without even noticing. But Yuri. Yuri was a different story and Jessica knew that. Yuri was the only person who made her evoke emotions she never had experienced. Yuri was the only one who made her pursue. Who made her hesitate. She knew she felt something weird whenever she was with the tanned woman. But doesn't she feel the same with Taeyeon? She didn't know for sure.

Shrugging away her thoughts, she chose to be stubborn. Because she knew she can't face the problem. Not right now. Not when she is confused. Not when Taeyeon loves her. Not when she doesn't know how to break it out to her, how she really feels. Not when she knows she'd hurt somebody.

She knew it all along. That she will never love Kwon Yuri. Because she can't. And even if she did, she won't. No matter what. She would choose to keep her feelings scrunched up and she realized that would hurt her more. She would choose to hide her feelings and cover it up even if she'd regret it later.

Because she knew that Kwon Yuri was someone she couldn't touch; culdn't ever be with.

Tiffany Hwang was someone she could never reach; never catch up to no matter how hard she tries.

And Taeyeon. Taeyeon was someone she couldn't let go. Someones she needed. Because she knew Taeyeon was special. And she wants to be with her. Probably not in her embrace, but just by her side. Just by her side. Because she knew she had felt something for the petite woman. But it was not love. No, she knew her heart beat for someone else. She knew seeing Taeyeon smile reminded her of someone else's. She knew Taeyeon calling her princess reminded her of someone else.

She knew she was selfish. But she knew it was for the best. Because our lives are not books we write ourselves like what famous figures have always quoted, Jessica thought. Our lives are stories planned out for us. All that we could do was turn the next page, and hope for the best.

-

"Noona! Noona!" Came the cries of a teenaged boy as the teen pushed the glass doors open. Carrying a bouquet of roses, he went near Jessica and knelt down. "Flowers for you, princess."

Several gasps were heard amongst the workers. Yuri continued to glare at the teen while ruffling her hair. Jessica paid no heed to them, and with a warm smile, said a curt "Thank you." The teen continued to smile, cheeks flushed as Jessica went out to be followed by the person. Cheers were heard from the office. Whispers were heard from Jessica and her visitor. A chuckle was heard from Tiffany. Grumbles were heard from Yuri. With a sigh, Yuri stood up amd grabbed another glass of coffee. She knew she felt something wrong. And what's wrong was that she felt possessive of something that wasn't even hers.

-

"Hey babe, am I ugly?" Jessica said as she pouted and placed a hand around the teen's neck.

"Princess. You are the most beautiful person I have ever seen." The teen said and leaned towards her, cupping her cheeks with both hands and slowly leaning in.

The sounds of footsteps echoed along the corridor, stopping the two. With a shocked expression, Jessica looked and searched for the person. Seeing nothing, she shrugged it off as her imagination before continuing, "Amber, good job right there. Krystal's gonna love it. Don't forget what I've taught you, alright? Krystal would surely ask that question." She kept on ranting as Amber nodded her head in approval.

"Oh and before I forget, Krystal tends to cry a lot so hug her, got it?" Jessica said while giving a hard pat on Amber's back.

The Chinese-American coughed as she placed a hand over her chest before choking out, " Alright noona, you can count on it." While giving a confident smile.

Jessica smiled warmly for the first time in a while. She always thought that Amber was the best for Krystal ever since. With the three growing up as childhood friends, Jessica couldn't deny that she liked Amber in more than one way possible. But she loved her sister. And Amber loved Krystal. So she had to support the two of them. With seeing the two constantly together, Jessica had always reminded herself at first that she was straight. That she can't like the same gender. Just so she won't fall deeper for the llama-faced friend of hers. Just so she and Krystal won't get hurt. She didn't know that a certain person would send all those feelings back to her.

"Noona?" Amber waved a hand over Jessica's face, disrupting her from her train of thoughts.

"Hmmm? What is it, Ambro?" Jessica said as she slung her arm lazily over Amber's shoulder.

"I see someone's happy today." Amber teased, raising her eyebrows in an unusual way.

"What are you trying to say?"

"Nothing, Sergeant Sic! Well then, Amber the soldier would leave first!" She said as she playfully saluted before smiling.

"Get going, dork." Jessica said as she gave a pat on Amber's bottom.

After seeing her leave, she turned back on her steps, a small smile etched on her lips.

'You made the right decision, Jung. You made the right one. Now, if you could only do it again....'

-

Kwon Yuri was getting impatient. Tapping her foot on the marbled tiles of the hallway, she kept on waiting for the clock to tick 6:00 pm. The time a certain auburn-haired lady's shift ends. With a growl, she went to the vending machine and had another one cup of cheap coffee. She never liked cheap coffee. Growing up, she had lived quite a luxurious life compared to others. With a plethora of different drinks and food served before her, she was treated as queen back at home. That is, until she decided to move out and live in a small apartment that charges less than other condominium units. After sighing for the umpteenth time, she threw away the cup, the flavor of the bitter-sweet drink lingering in her palate.

The sound of footsteps, made her  anticipate. Somehow, she knew it was her. Jessica never liked wearing heels, after all, so her steps never made a clank, Yuri thought. She then made a mental note on how creepy she could be. It was as if she was her stalker. It was as if she was obsessed. Leaning at the wall, she waited for the steps to come nearer and nearer, her heartbeat pounding in her ears.

"Oh, Yuri, hi there." Jessica said in an awkward tone. After months of not talking to the tanned woman, she felt the walls between them that came crumbling down in one night start to rebuild itself. Yuri pretended not to pay attention. Hiding the buzz in her stomach, she showed an indifferent face before starting, "We need to talk. Are you free?"

-

on her ice cream cone, Jessica wondered why Yuri had to take her to the neighborhood fair. glancing to her side, she saw Yuri silently eating her own ice cream, not talking at all. When  Yuri caught her staring, she immediately focused back on the chocolate chip-flavored ice cream  dripping onto her hand.

"Listen Jessica, do you like somebody? Taeyeon perhaps?" Yuri asked as she halted on her steps. She knew that she couldn't dwell on the topic directly. She knew she was being unfair. But she just had to know.

"T-taeyeon?" Jessica stuttered. Taengoo and I are just friends, Yuri-ah. She said trying to hide the heat creeping up to her cheeks.

"You seem closer than how friends should act." Yuri said a little too coldly.

"What do you mean by that?" Jessica said, obviously irritated at how Yuri talks to her.

"Are you a e?" Yuri suddenly changed the topic confusing Jessica.

"Wha-"

"You like kids?"

"Let me tell you that I don't. Date. Younger. People. Got that?" Jessica said indignantly pausing after every word before continuing, " What's wrong with you, anyway? You haven't been talking to me or answering any of my calls, then you pop up out of nowhere, call me out to talk only to say that? What are you trying-"

"What I mean is, if you love Taeyeon, don't flirt around with others."

Don't flirt around with others when I can see you.

"She might get jealous, you know?"

I'm getting jealous. I hate how you talked to each other; how she touched you back then.

"She will be hurt, if only she knew. It seemed like she likes you so much. Don't hurt her."

Dont hurt me. Because I can't take it.

Jessica continued to listen, mouth agape, as she took in what Yuri said.

"So you were the one who saw me and Amber back there?" Jessica exclaimed, a look of shock on her face as she realized who was the person behind those footsteps she heard.

"Yeah!" Yuri snapped. "So what if I eavesdropped? So what if I took a peek? So what if I saw you two kissing? And Amber? That's a pretty girly name for a boy."

"You!" Jessica took a deep breath to calm herself. Massaging her temples she continued. "Look. I don't want to fight with you, alright? It's already been so long since we had a proper conversation. I don't want to end it like this." She said with a pout.

Yuri blushed at Jessica's actions. Clearing , she continued, "Sorry for snapping at you, Sica. You can continue."

Jessica smiled her warmest that evening. Yuri called her Sica, again.

-

"So that Amber guy is a girl?" Yuri asked while munching on a bag of chips. They decided to stay longer at the fair, since the fireworks would start at midnight.

"Yuri," Jessica caught her off as she dragged the woman to a nearby stall.

"Wh-hey answer me first, Sica." Yuri whined, although failing miserably to hide the smile almost splitting her face in half. Jessica's hand was warm in hers, she thought with a small nod.

"Yuri, look! Couple bracelets! Let's buy a pair!" Jessica jumped up as she felt giddy all over seeing the piece of accessory. Giggling happily, she asked, "How much is this, mister?"

"Aha, I see you've got fine taste, miss." The man said obviously trying to hide his grin. Yuri grumbled as she shifted her foot. "Phony. Cheap sales-talk."

"Yuri don't be rude!" Jessica jabbed her at the stomach. "C'mon Yuri, buy this...for me?" Jessica pleaded. And somehow, Yuri couldn't help but slightly give in and want to buy the $15 worth of cheap metal.

"A beautiful couple bracelt for a beautiful couple!" The man interjected.

"Hey mister we're not a -"

"Can we buy it, Yuri?" Jessica asked once more as she clung to her arm unconsiously, before retracting a few seconds later, the heat creeping up to her cheeks.

"A-alright, ajussi, I'll- I'll take it." Yuri fumbled with her wallet before placing a large part of her salary on the counter. The old man smiled as Yuri mumbled the words, "What do you even know about dollars anyway? We're in Korea y'know."Jessica smiled happily, like a child receiving candy. Wearing the bracelet around her wrists, her eyes showed a twinkle before facing Yuri, "Hey, wear yours too." Jessica said with a tug on her shirt.

Yuri's heart skipped a beat. She never knew herself how she missed the slight tug Jessica had always done. "Yuri? Yuri?" Yuri snapped out of her reverie. "Wha-"

Jessica placed the bracelet around Yuri's wrist. "There!" Jessica smiled triumphantly. "Now don't ever remove that, alright? I won't remove mine, too. For commemoration of our first night out...just like a fist date." Yuri wondered if she had heard the last part right. With a small clearing of , she dragged Yuri away once again. Gripping Jessica's hamd tighter, Yuri whispered, "I won't lose this, ever. I promise. Because it reminds me of this...just like a first...date."

She felt Jessica's body twitch a little, her ears quite red before starting to walk in brisk steps.

"Let's go get corndogs."

-

"Hey, Sica you haven't answered me yet. So Amber is a girl?" Yuri peered over to Jessica, a small smile fit onto her lips.

"Ummm.. technically." Jessica said as she took a bite out of her corndog. Yuri kept staring at her, whilst trying to control her laughter.

"What?"

"Hmmm?"

"What are you laughing at? You've been snickering ever since. Is there something on my face?" Jessica whined. She knew she never used more aegyo than she did today.

"Yeah. Right there." Yuri pointed at her cheek.

"Here?" Jessica asked, trying to wipe off the stain.

"I'll do it for you." Yuri daid as she leaned in and wiped the sauce off the corner of her lips with her thumb. "There! All gone!" She said before it off her finger.

"Yah! Don't do that!" Jessica shouted, gently hitting Yuri on the shoulder.

"Why?"

"It's... it's embarrassing...alright?" Jessica mumbled as she bent her head down low.

"You know," Yuri said as she leaned back further into the bench. "From your actions, if I didn't know any better, I would've thought that you like me."

Jessica raised her head only to be met with a teasing grin.

"I'm irresistible, after all."

-

"Wait! Explain the details, Sica!" Yuri shouted as she ran after Jessica. "What is your relationship with Amber?"

"Not now, Yuri. I've got to buy tickets to the ferris wheel. The fireworks start in 10 minutes, Yul. They're the best from up here."

"No, I need your answer now!" Yuri whined as she caught up to Jessica, and held her in her embrace. Brushing the pounding in her chest away, she continued, "You can't leave until you give me a proper answer, Sica."

She felt Jessica relax under her embrace. "Alright. Amber is a childhood friend, got it?"

"So why did she try to kiss you?" Yuri asked as she rocked their bodies slowly. She knew she was feeling too comfortable. She might not even let go if she had the chance, she realized.

"We were practicing for her surprise to her girlfriend, my sister, Krystal. It's going to be their anniversary in a week, so I'm helping her prepare. If that's what you're talking about." Jessica said as she broke away from Yuri's hold.

And somehow, Yuri couldn't help but miss her being so close.

Jessica ran a few steps away from her before twirling back, a small smirk on her face.

"You know, from your actions, if I didn't know any better, I would've thought you like me."

Thud. Thud. Thud.

"I'm irresistible, after all." Jessica said with her tongue sticking out before running to the gate of the ferris wheel. "Last one's the loser! Run Yuri, faster!"

Thud. Thud. Thud.

"You know, from your actions, if I didn't know any better, I would've thought that you like me." The words kept replaying on Yuri's mind as her heartbeat started pounding harder.

Taking in a deep breath, she smiled.

'I was so stupid.'

'I like Sica.'

'I love Sica.'

'I love her.'

"Wait for me, Sica! I'm coming!" Yuri said as she ran after the petite woman.

 -

She never felt happier than that night, she was sure, she thought to herself as she went home. And at the moment she hit her bed and snuggled under the covers, only a certain woman entered her mind. And she decided that she want to remain that way forever. With her in her thoughts as she falls asleep, and probably, even if it is wishful thinking for now, wake up to her, the next day.

A.N: Somehow, I was hesitant to update this chapter because of what happened recently. I didn't know whether to continue writing or just stop it altogether. But then I thought, that there really was no one to blame in this incident. Because we never knew the truth. I think, as a sone, all I could do is support them all the way. Because we're all they've got right now. Even Sica. Because sica is always snsd's sica for me. I dont think it did change. And if time heals all wounds, I hope we all try to move out of this together. In slow steps. Because no matter what, if we really are sones, we would never give up on our OT9, right?
